From what Beane has said, and what Dontae himself has said, it doesnt seem like there was any axe to grind with the team. Vontae just realized his body was old, and CB is a tough spot to be old. Cant hide losing a step when youre covering on the outside. Good of Vontae to return his bonus right away without the team hassling him. This is just another story in the "Bills being Bills" saga of our lives.

Also kinda scummy in certain instances. But profitable! -

Another reason why Snyder should have done this YEARS ago -

This is kinda scummy, but it's what Snyder deserves for waiting soooo long to come around on the name change. He shouldve seen this coming and been proactively working towards the change. Waiting until he was absolutely forced to is going to cause him problems. Good. -
I'm not sure what youre getting at? LOL? That said, I dont remember ever interacting with you before, so maybe there is part of a conversation I'm missing? Gugny and I (and anyone else with half a brain) had this figured out back in May. Look at his comment right below my post. It was obvious why the victims changed their stories so quickly.

Hamilton mob boss gunned down in war with Buffalo mafia?

How many tables did they have to throw him through to kill him? -
An extra year of rest, and some kids who have a tougher time moving up in the ranks is nothing compared to players/coaches/staff dying during the season. When is the last season the NFL had an active player or coach die during the season? Typically a single death would be looked at as a tragedy. If you end up with even just 2 or 3 deaths (likely given all the obesity and age in coaching staffs), THAT would lead to devastating ramifications for the league.

Those are all long term issues that will affect them in the future, and which young adults such as the 20-somethings in the NFL have a hard time seeing. If you have asthma or diabetes or some other conditions, COVID could kill you this year. And you can bring it home to vulnerable family members. Big difference.

Fair enough! We shall see

But the point is, if the Power Conferences decide to allow football and play conference games, it blows their argument that "no game could be played". If they arent practicing, and arent playing at all, then that is different. Things could certainly change. But they can't say "We can't play Buffalo, but we can go to Ann Arbor" and expect to win that argument. Just another factor that might push this into no football at all. The other events that are being canceled using force majeure are being canceled completely.

I dont think anything should be erased from record. But there is a lot that has been celebrated that absolutely shouldnt be. -

No one needs to play Devil's Advocate on behalf of the Antebellum South. There's plenty of devils there already. I'll agree to walk back my statement of "There is simply nothing to be proud of from that time for the South." if you're saying we should be building statues and honoring the heritage of the famous slaves who ran the Underground Railroad and worked to free others, and the early-abolitionists who freed slaves and protected them. That isnt the perspective that started this conversation though. And it CERTAINLY has played no role in what has been historically honored down here as "heritage". I dont know of any statues that were put up to honor plantation owners who voluntarily freed their slaves (maybe someone can enlighten me). Agree to disagree, but knowing antebellum means "pre war", and the slow, agricultural lifestyle didnt change after the war, only the owning slaves part... Folks can say it celebrates the architecture, and clothing, and slow life of luxury, but ALL of that was built and afforded by slavery. It's all about the "good ol days"... of owning slaves. Either way, I appreciate the discussion. -

Maybe, maybe not. If what JAHBH said at the top of the page is true: Then the pride comes from the Confederacy, and their "resistance" to outside influence (telling them they cant own slaves). If it comes from Antebellem, then that is the entire period of slavery. And celebrating a life of luxury afforded solely by the free labor of owning slaves. Either way, theyre wrong. There is simply nothing to be proud of from that time for the South. -

Most "Southern Pride" is built on myth. The Confederacy was only around for barely 5 years. The band Nirvana was around for 7 years. The Office tv show was on for 9. Where are the Kurt Cobain and Michael Scott statues! That's MY heritage! -

Like I mentioned a few pages back, and has been detailed in some of the stories, Jackson spent this past weekend being "introduced" to the teachings of Farrakhan and the NOI. He basically went through their "Indoctrination 101" course where they say a bunch of stuff that sounds good on the surface, but has deeper, darker, more nefarious meanings that impressionable folks like Jackson dont pick up on until it's too late. If you look at his follow-up tweets when he was still defending himself, it's obvious he had almost zero understanding of what he truly posted, and had missed the single (and non-highlighted) mention of Hitler at the top, and focused on the buzzwords he did know: "Ne groes" "whites" "discrimination and lynching". This was his first follow up post: He STILL didnt realize that the "they" referenced means "Jews". He thought it meant "white Americans". And we give plenty of folks mulligans, as long as there isnt a recurring history there. Allen and Fromm got them. Heck, Brees got one and he does have a history of dumbassery. They werent cancelled. They were given a chance to discuss, apologize, and move on. I guess the good news is, Jackson put it out there before he got too tied up with the NOI. And hopefully after his talks with Lurie and Roseman, and his upcoming trip with Edelman, they can pull him out of that radicalization. -

The folks you mention in this post are one thing, I wont argue there. Also agreed on the rise of antisemitism and that it needs to be addressed. But I truly dont think Jackson is even smart enough to have the thoughts that he should hate Jews. I'd be surprised if he has ever had much contact or interaction with Jewish people to even have an opinion. IMO, he got caught up in someone else's "hate of X disguised as pride of Y" and shared a message he didnt even understand. That's also why his apology doesnt seem sincere, because he still doesnt understand how he got tricked and what he's apologizing for. Maybe I'm giving him too much(?) credit in siding with Hanlon's Razor on this. He's wrong either way. If it comes out that he has a long, secret history of anti-semitism, then bye. But I'm not sure a guy so dumb he couldnt stop flashing gang signs on the field even after the league told him to stop could somehow also keep his anti-semitism a secret this long. -
While this is technically High School, I'd argue that Texas High School Football is bigger than a lot of college programs.

You cant support a Confederate monument without being racist or at least un-American. Full stop. If it's about something else, find another symbol. But what else could it be about? -

In fairness, we dont really know what a "BEane move" is at this point of the rebuild. I agree it isnt a year 1 or 2 Beane move. That doesnt mean it's not a year 3 or 4 Beane move when he has his cap cleared and draft picks in place. -

Right, right. And trying to look up facts, evidence, reasoning behind the thinking they were workers and not slaves only really returns one article from 10 years ago. And even that is flimsy evidence. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/more-evidence-slaves-didnt-build-pyramids/ But again, the Bible and a Charlton Heston movie arent great sources either. And a lot of things from the OT have been "universally accepted" until proven wrong. Who knows. Bruh, you aint kidding. I mentioned it in the previous pages but removed the link so as not to give him exposure of any kind. It is madness. -

It may not be 100% accurate, but it's not that much of an exaggeration or misrepresentation in this case though. Sure, he specifically condemned the "neo-Nazis", but the fine people he was referring to were the ones protesting against the removal of the Robert E Lee statue, and there was a lot of cross over there. Plus, if someone is that in love with the Confederacy, I question how fine they truly are. And yeah, that's a hot take. Any functioning adult who wont sell out our troops, at this point. -

Ive seen this too, and frankly not sure what to believe. It's not like the Old Testament is the most accurate historical record of anything. But I can see that there would be ulterior motives in pushing this re-write. And are we really splitting hairs between terms like "bonded laborers" and "chattel slaves". -
