Carson Wentz to the Colts
DrDawkinstein replied to Brennan Huff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But then how can he be outraged? -
Thanks Guys. I've been confused, thinking I was the crazy one, seeing so many people saying "With the cap situation this year, I bet we'll see a lot of 1-year deals so players can really hit Free Agency next year". And that made no sense to me. If anything, I think we'll see more long term deals, with 2021 being low paid and all the real money shifted down the line, and likely guaranteed to some extent. Not like the old-school backloaded contracts where you knew the player was never going to see a penny of the last 3 years. It's not that we CANT sign Milano. It's that we shouldnt sign Milano at such a high price.

Do you think we could structure it like $10M and $14M to reduce cap hit this year? Or even $8M, $16M? Maybe fully guaranteed?

Deshaun Watson officially requests trade from Houston

No one is saying that. Being "less impressed" with his 2020 performance than his 2019 performance is not a crazy take. -

I never said he wasnt a "good" coach. Just that he made some mistakes this year that reduced the luster of his 2019 performance. Plenty of decent coaches can coach up a bad roster to winning 5 games. But how do they do once they get the talent and young QB to try to push into the playoffs? Pretty much what eball says: -

Ehh, year and a half, with a bad downturn the 2nd half of this year. I'm less impressed with him now than I was when the 2020 season started. But he could still turn it around. -
I remember Mario Williams delivering groceries to people's houses (maybe even Jim Kelly's) after a bad storm in Buffalo too.

Classic Browns! Flip a #2 Overall into 12 picks, and hit on maybe 1 of them? LOOOOOOL Could've stayed at #2 and had Joey Bosa, or Jalen Ramsey, or Ronnie Stanley... -

historically off the top of my head? Steve Young and Brett Favre. I dont think Darnold or Wentz are either of those guys, but it happens. I'd have to go through a wikipedia list to find some more modern examples, but they absolutely exist. also, the QB talent has been extremely lacking over the last decade as empasized by the stat @Logic posted earlier in the thread, so bad sample group. I dont think any of us in that debate are expecting these guys to become elite franchise guys, but they can be serviceable starters, and are young enough to turn it around. And it can happen. -

I can agree there. I dont think Darnold is completely finished or beyond repair either. -

Was never worried about the Colts. We already handled them in the playoffs, and they werent going to find a QB better than Rivers this year. -

Bears fans must be rejoicing with this Wentz move. I think Darnold is a better fit for Nagy too -

For a chance at a 1st, you might see Irsay push him out onto the field in a wheelchair if thats what it takes. Nevermind, Im an idiot and had that backwards. -

So expect Wentz to start no matter how bad it gets. -

Darnold is on a rookie contract, where Wentz carries a 25M cap hit. The compensation isnt based solely on perceived talent. -

Man, as much as I'd love to see it, I'm not ready to discount them so low yet. And that isnt BBFS talking. That is seeing how they did with losing a bunch of guys to opt-out and having an incapable starting QB. And looking at their cap room for this year, I expect them to make major improvements above and beyond just getting their opt out guys back. I'd cut that list off after the Chargers. I like Herbert, but not sure the team as a whole is any better than the Pats. Bills Chiefs Ravens Titans Browns And even if I include the Chargers, that's only 6 teams with 1 playoff spot left to go. I hope you are right and they fall apart, but I can't confidently predict that yet. -

Colin Cowherd's QB Dominoes for the 2021 Off-Season
DrDawkinstein replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont know. Pats had a lot of Defensive stars sit out last year. They will take a big step up this year by getting their starters back and go from a decent defense to a very good one again. If they can get some semblance of an Offense together, they are definitely making a wild card, and probably giving us a run for the Division. Theyre going to have to wait for Belichick to retire before convincing anyone to blow it up. He doesnt want to drift through a 4-12 season. Or have that be the last thing folks remember about him (that they absolutely fell apart without Brady). Make the next guy do it. -
Youre the one who brought it up!

Worked out for KC and Mahomes tho. -
If we could get 2013, 2014 Mario back, we'd win the Super Bowl.

I like Addison the best of the bunch, but I'm going all in (or out rather) and cutting Butler, Addison, and Jefferson for a total savings of about $18M. Could we backload contracts with guaranteed money to get around the reduced cap this year? Like both Ngakoue and Watt end up with a hit of only $9M this year (fully guaranteed), but go up significantly with guaranteed money the rest of the years...

That's not saying much Yeah, of all the possible QB moves out there, New England landing Mariota is a good thing for the Bills.
