Agreed. For interior OL at #25, it would have to be Linderbaum. Mayyyyyybe Ekwonu (big maybe). But we havent met with either of them (that we know of), so it seems unlikely. I think the top rated C/G we've met with has been Kenyon Greene. Maybe a trade up in the 2nd to grab him.

All those people you point to always/only praise other players publicly. Folks here reference all the praise Saleh heaped on Edmunds before a game last year, but that's what HCs do all the time. They never give bulletin board material. And the praise is always overstated. Like Ive already said, the Cover1 guys did a great job at explaining/excusing a lot of his plays that look bad, but werent his fault or responsibility. I get it. But I put ZERO value into praise from coaches, teammates, talking heads. They all have ulterior motives, they arent there to tell the full truth. -

I am specifically referring to the 2 games Klein filled in for Edmunds. One being the Colts which was our worst D performance. And the other being against the Jets, where Klein played well, but you'll all just say "yeah, but it was the Jets". The Colts were going to run all over us whether it was Klein or Edmunds in the middle. There are too many bad/missed/broken tackles, the Fournette is just the easiest example to remember without digging through tape (which I aint doin). But on that play alone, it would have stopped their drive, and likely change the outcome of the game. I know a lot of other things factored into that loss, but there was a play that Edmunds could have stepped up, made a play (a simple tackle at that) and had a positive impact on the game. And he... just... didnt... Anyways, I'm bowing out of this thread. Good discussion, but we're all just re-re-re-arguing our opinions which wont change. It's up to Edmunds to prove it on the field now. I truly hope he does. The age is a bad stat/excuse. How about Josh after 4 years in the league, or Milano after 4 years in the league. When does it click for Edmunds? -

I assume you are referring to the Colts game? I'd argue that it would have been as bad, if not worse, with Edmunds in there since Klein plays the run better than Edmunds. It was going to be a bad game for our Defense no matter what. Absolutely agreed on the 2 gap NT comparison. And the Cover1 breakdown videos do a good job at illustrating that. They provide a lot of info on his responsibilities and have even gotten me to "forgive" him on some plays. That is where I give him a lot of leeway and understanding. He will never be a "fire your gun" shoot the gap LB. That's fine. But make some plays in the passing game already. He's supposed to be this long, lanky, lane-clogger but he never (ok, rarely) knocks down any passes in the middle. He is in an uncommon role in this defense. I understand. I just want him to perform his role better. There have been a lot of play made against him. The TB game stands out. Whether bouncing off Fournette and allowing the TFL to turn into a first down, or getting burned in coverage. It's unfortunately all too common with him. -
This isnt even really a question. He will absolutely be a DE.

For all the praise he gets by other teams and the media, I think it is very telling that he is going into his 5th year without an extension. It doesnt tell us anything too crazy or alarming. But Beane's MO is to get his guys extended on fair deals well before this. So likely, Beane made a Milano-type offer ($10M/year) which I think is fair for Edmunds. Even as someone who has been disappointed, I could get behind keeping him for that number. And Edmunds thinks he can be worth more than that, but the Bills havent seen it yet to justify it (same as us critics). Hopefully he takes a step up, and shows us he's worth the big bucks. -

Fair enough possibility. We will certainly see this year. And I hope for nothing more than Edmunds to have a true All Pro season. -

There are plenty of us critics (I wont say haters cause I def dont hate the guy) who are informed enough to know exactly how we use him, and how that may make him look different than the productivity of a lot of other LBs in the league. But are still left wanting and think either he could play better (make more plays) or the Bills could do better at the position. It's not fair or accurate to dismiss the criticisms with "folks dont understand his role". Plenty of us understand it perfectly and are still disappointed. We could definitely do worse at the position. But for the money he will likely want and command, we could do better. -

We have to get at least one new one in every day. -

I've watched the (very informative) Cover1 breakdowns, so I get that they give him a ton of responsibility. Often covering 2 gaps instead of just one, which makes him pause and wait instead of simply shooting a gap. I'm not out here just hating without understanding everything he does do, and all the responsibility he has. But something is still missing. Kuechly had the same responsibilites in the same position in the same scheme and made a TON of plays. If Edmunds just met those stats HALFWAY, not even expecting him to be a full Kuechly, then I'd be happy. But he's just this shell out there. -

This is my biggest beef. He never makes any plays. I understand that MLBs dont make a ton of plays as it is, but he makes NO plays. I'm not expecting an INT every game. But I'd be thrilled with something like 4 tipped balls, 2-3 INTs for himself, and a handful of TFLs across the whole season. Heck, I'd be thrilled if he just stopped overpursuing and learned to take better angles on open field tackles. My bar for him last year was really low, and he didnt even live up to that. Klein came in for two games and immediately made a couple plays (tipped/defended a pass). -

As much as I want to upgrade the spot, I'm fine with keeping Edmunds this year. If for no other reason than to see him behind an improved DL and one more year of maturity, just to prove to all the apologists and fanboys that he really is Just A Guy. -

He's worse at pass rushing than he is at playing MLB. Everyone who wants to move him to OLB/DE is only wishing based on his size. He has no fire or power to get to the QB. 2020 he had something like 76 blitzes and tallied ZERO pressures. -
Star released. Pre-6/1 per Joe B, $1.5M cap savings.

Murphy or Vernon Butler off the top of my head. -
It's all horseshoes and handgrenades for us message board GMs. Every site will have different rankings, just like every team will have different rankings.
-
You had me until the end. We traded down to #17, and still took the 1st QB off the board. Sure, it was a pick based purely on need, but I cant call it a "ridiculous" reach with the trade down and first dibs. Whitner will always be the best example of reaching on need. A top-10 pick used on a need when there were many better players there for the taking.
-
Right on. I'm just going off Draftek rankings since it's so hard to guess who will be available when. Im interested in Elam too. I also believe McD could make do with a 3rd or 4th round CB. But if the talent is there and available, and we really dont have any other holes, might as well.
-
That (OG if Bates leaves) is a need-based pick, and not a BPA. WR would be early if there was a big talent there (Williams) since they would be BPA at position of need.
-
HEre are all the CBs, WRs, and C/Gs that we met with at the Combine (that we know of). Play mix-and-match from here: Cam Jurgens - C/G Nebraska Logan Bruss - C/G Wisconsin Zion Johnson - C/G Boston College Lecitus Smith - G Virginia Tech Dohnovan West - C/G Arizona State Kenyon Green - C/G Texas A&M Josh Thompson - CB Texas (Senior Bowl) Roger McCreary - CB Auburn Trent McDuffie - CB - Washington Kaiir Elam - CB Florida Kyler Gordon - CB Washington Andrew Booth - CB Clemson Jameson Williams- WR Bama Treylon Burks - WR Arkansas Garrett Wilson - WR OSU Chris Olave - WR OSU John Metchie III - WR Bama I could see something like: 1. CB McDuffie 2. WR Metchie 3. C/G Jurgens
-
Every GM will tell you they want to draft BPA. But every GM ultimately ends up drafting BPA at position of need. You dont want to reach on need too much, but it always plays into the equation. Beane is no different. All his picks are typically BPA at a position of need.
-
Depends on which WRs and which CBs are on the board. Have their been any runs? etc We met with CBs, C/Gs, and WRs the most, so I'd bet our first 3 picks come at those positions. The order depends on how the draft falls. If you gave us some different combos, we might be able to give better answers.

Za'Darius Smith backs out of Ravens contract, still a FA

No, there are always a handful of cases every year. But people forget in the year between, and then overreact when it happens again. -
This is VERY interesting stuff. Beane running a tight ship.
