It's not so much about the 49ers as it is the rest of the division and conference. The division is totally up for grabs. This isnt the NFC of 2020 either. Philly is rolling, but with an easy schedule. All the 9ers need to do is beat out the Rams, Seahawks, and Cardinals. Then who knows what happens in the playoffs.

Considering the Dolphins have the 49ers 1st round pick, I fully support them going "all in" for this year and then tanking after that. We should all be pulling for the 49ers to make the playoffs and push that pick into the later part of the round. Then with no picks to help Lance, they can tank in 2023, and replace Lance in 2024.

IMO, the only way we send a 1st round pick is if a team-friendly extension is already agreed upon and ready to sign. Otherwise, I (and I hope Beane) have no interest in dealing a 1st pick for a 3 month rental. I dont have any interest in sending a 1st for CMC either way really, and I think he's a very good player. If no extension is in place, then best I can do is a 4th and Moss. That's all a $600k 3 month rental is worth to us. edit: And someone asked up-thread why he would take such a pay cut? Well, after the previous 5 years in Carolina and being subjected to that franchise, players are actively taking less to play for our coaches and with Josh Allen, and win a Super Bowl. We are the New Patriots. He already took the $38M in guaranteed money from his big 2nd contract, so he could afford to do a shorter, smaller deal with us. Go get a ring. Stay healthy with a better Strength team and NOT being the entire Offense, and then see what happens from there. I'm all for players making as much money as they possibly can. He doesnt really have a "contract in place". Sure, technically one exists. But there is no guaranteed money left. Meaning, he is one ding away from making $0 for the rest of his life. It also means that his new team could simply cut him at the end of the year and be on the hook for nothing. No dead cap. No anything. The only thing at risk is what the new team pays from him in trade. CMC and his agent know he isnt seeing that $12M/year from anyone. The new team will want a new deal before the trade finalizes. And frankly, so does CMC and his agent in order to protect him long term. As far as the business side of the NFL goes, the remaining 3yr/$36M do not exist. Big statements. Leonard Fournette, after helping the Bucs win a Super Bowl, only got 3/$21M. Melvin Gordon got 2/$16M Most RB 3rd contracts are super low regardless of how heralded the RB is. Luckily the GMs arent using my off the cuff remarks to base deals around. 🤣 $12M/yr is absolutely no where near RBs' 3rd+ contracts. Send me some links on that if you have better examples than mine in Fournette and Gordon (I was looking for "big name" productive RBs getting their 3rd contract). CMC does not have 3/$36M to negotiate from. He has nothing but what he thinks he's worth or is wiling to take. He would cost us $600k this year, and then could be cut and get $0 next year, and count $0 on our cap.

But the $12M salary is irrelevant. His potential salary is $0 with no guaranteed money remaining. There is no reason to base anything off $12M. It's easier to simply start from scratch. Pretend his contract is up after this year. That is the reality that everyone is facing. Just start fresh and offer him 3/$15M with $10M guaranteed. Sure we both end up in about the same place, but the way we get there is different. Forget what the current contract says and reset by his actual value.

Denver's only hope is to clean house on the coaching staff (I guess they want to keep the DC tho), and bring in a new HC who has a ton of experience. Only person I can think of is Sean Payton. The Broncos are stuck with Wilson and that contract for at least 4-6 years. Hackett will NEVER get him right.

As far as what teams will use in negotiations in Free Agency. He certainly isnt going to get the ridiculous $12M/yr that Carolina was dumb enough to sign him to. Doesnt mean he cant play at all, or isnt good. It's just the market.

All accurate but I'm curious where he is getting such an exact figure of $4.8M. There is no guaranteed money, so it can be restructured to anything. Could be $3M if CMC would agree to it. There is no floor other than what CMC will agree to, as far as I know.
