His contract was supposedly up, and this is the best way to announce he isnt coming back without putting any negative spin on it. -
Bobby Wagner - the solution to the Edmunds problem
DrDawkinstein replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thanks. WRT bold, hate to say it but this is where we miss Whaley. He had a knack for later LBs. Bradham, Johnson, Milano... For Beane and Co. trying to replace Edmunds through the draft means an early pick, and I'd say a 50/50 shot on hitting. I already wanted our first 3 picks to be IOL/IOL/WR, in whatever order necessary. I guess if we use the money to sign Ben Powers we could get away with only drafting 1 IOL early. Maybe have a draft of LB/IOL/WR, in that order. I dunno. I dont think it's that easy to pluck a playmaking LB from the draft as needed. -
Yeah, I use that term to also give him a bit more benefit of the doubt than a lot of us (myself included) have given him in the past. It is certainly a fairly unique role he plays, so it is tough to get a read on any real comparison or expectation. I was a huge detractor, but what brought me around at least a little bit was watching the extensive Cover1 videos discussing his responsibilities and the calls and decisions he has to make during a play. Not even between plays. In the middle of the play while it is coming right at him. It's a lot. Since not many other coaches are... "bold" (cough) enough to use this scheme, the best I've found is to compare him to Luke Kuechly. And if you look at Kuechley's first 5 years and compare them to Edmund's first 5 years, Tremaine is still greatly lacking. LK 12 Ints TE 5 Ints LK 4 Forced Fumbles TE 2 Forced Fumbles LK 9 sacks TE 6.5 sacks LK 42 Pass Defended TE 35 Pass Defended LK outranks him in just about every category over his first 5 years, I wont bother to list them all. You can see them in the links above.

Agreed. It's all BS and his brains are going to be scrambled eggs regardless. He'll still end up with another concussion at some point next season, and if he's lucky it will only end his career and not cause permanent damage (probably too late on that too).
-
I'm not so sure it is that simple. I agree Beane prefers to extend early. And I believe Beane made him a lower offer based on his level of play up to last season. But I think in this specific case, they gave him that year on the Option to prove his development. And doggone it, he did. So now it gets even tougher. We'll see.

I understand fans wanting to have this line of thinking, but there is absolutely no solid, valid logic behind it. It doesnt matter what we are paying Milano when it comes to Edmunds contract. Just like when Milano was re-signing people werent saying "but we only pay Lorenzo Alexander $X amount". Milano's deal was in a much different time, for a different position, and had a player who was willing to take well below market in order to not complicate his life. It's an anomaly situation. Not a precedent.

This must be the most difficult decision Beane has faced, because similar but opposite of you, I have been staunchly against re-signing him the last 4 years, but have changed my tune after this season. Edmunds play, and the fog of his responsibilities, makes it almost impossible for us to properly decide whether it is worth re-signing him or not. Couple that with the "what ifs" that pop up when discussing using that money on Offense instead. But there are no guarantees Beane will spend on Offense even if Edmunds walks. So... I have no clue.

Bobby Wagner - the solution to the Edmunds problem
DrDawkinstein replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
The 5/$100M deal Roquan Smith just signed has his cap hits as $9M and $13M the first 2 years because of the long term deal. Edmunds will likely sign a 5 or 6 year deal as well. So even if it is for $120M, his cap hit in 2023 should be under $10M. I urge everyone to take a good look at the structure of the Smith deal as an example of how we could bring Edmunds back cheaper than what he cost us this past year. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/roquan-smith-25103/ -
Same way they gave it up last time we played TB. Being young and not playing D, and playing against a very experienced, talented team. But man, that ending in OT... Electrifying! Funny because Razor was just talking up Bushkin after the commercial break and saying what a great game he was having, and then a minute later there he goes on the breakaway. Yep, the amount of Hockey coverage available on ESPN+ has me watching Hockey every single night. (That and the fact the Sabres are fun to watch again) Major change from the last decade where I barely saw a single game. Going into this 3 game stretch, I thought if we got 1 pt out of Leafs/Lightning and could pull off a win in Miami then it would be a successful series. The Leaf game stunk but last night made up for it, and hopefully we can pull one off against the Panthers tonight!

DrDawkinstein replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have no idea what Wagner would go for at this stage of his career. Just saying, if the argument is that "Wagner would be cheaper" it would have to be a reeeeeally cheap deal because Edmunds will get a much longer term with much smaller hits upfront. -

DrDawkinstein replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
We should be able to re-sign Edmunds with a hit of about $9M this year. Would need to get Wagner under that when he was set to have a $12M cap hit this year. If we can get him on a 3/$30M with a $7M cap hit this year, then maybe. -
Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
DrDawkinstein replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Possible, sure. Especially with no agent or anyone else guiding him with these business decisions. Hope he saw that recent Le'Veon Bell interview where he said holding out and sitting out was the biggest mistake of his life and he shouldve just signed the Steelers original offer. If Ravens tag him and he sits out, it's all downhill. I still think they tag him and ultimately trade him to Atlanta tho. And Arthur Blank WILL give him $275M all guaranteed. See above. I think tag and trade is what ultimately happens. Just theorizing on what else they could do. That new OC throws an interesting wrinkle in. I do disagree that he controls everything. He controls himself and whether he plays or not. But the team has options too. -

DrDawkinstein replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
If I'm Baltimore, I'm tagging Lamar and telling him to come play 1 more year with the new OC, and if it goes well, I'll give him $300M all guaranteed. And if not, we'll let him hit FA and never tag him again. -
Public Student Loan Forgiveness?
DrDawkinstein replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in Off the Wall
You would think so, but due to the predatory nature that Education Financing has taken on, a LOT of people still have major debts after working for 10, 20 years. The system is way broken. The debt is already off the federal books. Just wipe em out. I'll stop there to keep this off PPP. Congrats @Johnny Hammersticks!! -
You get one player this offseason…who is it?
DrDawkinstein replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall
You say it yourself, QB play. Can't knock him on pure stats. They dont tell the story. Our 1st wouldnt be my first offer. Just sayin, if that's what it took, I don't think there will be a rookie WR available at 27 who is just as good. My goal is to get one WR and two IOL from the first 3 rounds. If there isnt an IOL worth taking at 27, and none of the rookie WRs available look like a sure thing, we could do worse than get Jeudy. -
Nonsense speculation from a talking head begging for attention
