TSW Mock Draft 3.0 Poll - Who should the Bills take at #27
DrDawkinstein replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
The reality of it is, we've heard from multiple sources that there are only ~15 players with 1st round grades in this draft. That's pretty agreed upon across the board. Picking at 27, no matter WHO we draft, will be a reach and a pick that lots of folks will be able to easily find fault with. And if there is such low talent, it will guarantee that no one wants to move up so we can trade back. We just need to prepare ourselves for a lackluster 1st round pick. -

Same reel. Like right down to the blocked punts. -

Folks can change their votes whenever they want. And will likely need to again after Virgil whittles down the options. It is interesting that there are 2 "trade" options and if combined, are the runaway winners. I hope we dont see that vote split and it go to Flowers if the majority actually want to trade back one way or another. Stop the steal. -

Lot of DT/DL talent in this draft. Grab one in Rd 2 or Rd 3. -
TSW Mock Draft 3.0 Poll - Who should the Bills take at #27

I dont remember which mock it was, I just know I was pissed we skipped IOL, and then in the next one I saw you making the same complaints. Great minds, and all... I'm not so much in love with JMS specifically, as much as I am pressing to address a critical need that we have been ignoring the last 3 years. We are one head-slap away from Morse retiring mid-game. He will miss time again this year. At this point of his career, it's pretty much a guarantee. We have to have our next Center ready, and I dont want to sabotage Josh even further by making him deal with jourenyman Centers for 3 seasons until we figure it out. Tippman works for me, or even Luke Wypler who some have as the #1 Center (although he is much smaller than we usually like). Not sold on Van Ness, at all. IMO, he is another Epenesa maybe worthy of a mid-late 2nd round pick. But that is this draft. Loaded with "2nd round" talent. Nolan Smith, maybe. But he looks a little small to deal with NFL Tackles... -

I dont remember that far back. I DO remember someone else getting pissed during the 1.0 Mock Draft that we again neglected to draft OL... -

No, Humphrey over Basham. The "game changing position" of another DE. Given the performance and injury history of our OL, I'd say drafting a starting Center IS a game-changing position. Maybe JMS could have managed to get the snap to Josh in the Vikings game? I've already said I'm all good with trading back and getting the Center then. My current vote is to Trade Back. But I think a trade back is unlikely in reality. -

I would NOT do 27 and Oliver for DHOP. We need to get that #34 pick back. Can't lose 2 young players for a high priced 1-2 year rental. -

I'm fine with uninspriring when it means getting a lynchpin for our OL for the rest of Josh's career. Agreed it's a bit of a reach, but in this draft, anyone taken at 27 is going to be 2nd round talent. Should have been Creed Humphrey. Should have been Tyler Linderbaum. Taking IOL is never exciting, but it sure is satisfying. I did end up voting for the trade back with DHOP. We could probably get JMS at 34 as well. So I'd be fine with it. -

JOHN MICHAEL SCHMITZ or the trade back with Arizona for DHOP, and can probably pick up JMS/Tippman/Wypler at 34. Bills fans are nuts if they are voting Flowers. Another too-small Parrish/McKenzie. -
You had a good start. 👍

Hoping we can have at least one of these mocks get us a IOL/Center in the 1st. 🤞 OL John Michael Schmitz met with the Buffalo Bills via Zoom Schmitz is widely regarded as the top center in this year’s draft class https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2023/4/23/23693242/ol-john-michael-schmitz-met-with-buffalo-bills-minnesota-golden-gophers

It's a weird contract. Starting next year, and going for 3 years, each year is guaranteed as long as he is playing. But it is not 3 years fully guaranteed at signing. If they cut him before Feb 2024, they'd have like a $50M dead cap hit, but get out of the other 2 $50M years.

Time for the Bills to re-sign Arthur Moats!

That was just the highlights from last year. There are some classics that are real doozies.

Yall would love Cart Narcs

That's why I was saying both teams have leverage. The Jets have sold this move already and MUST get him. And GB is looking to move on from Rogers and his cap hit and MUST move him. It's down to whoever blinks first. Right now, I believe that cap hit being on GB's books is stopping them from making other moves that they want to make. That is probably the biggest incentive across both teams to get the deal done.

Agreed on most of this. I dont find Sal that condescending as much as I sympathize that he has to deal with WGR Callers for a living, and they deserve whatever they get from the hosts. I'll give Joe and Nate some wiggle room. They are both VERY young, and new in their broadcast careers, so a lot of growing and improving left. I think we'll see them become pretty decent over the years.

Looking at the ESPN+ article and seeing who was still available/went shortly after our pick, I'd rather have: 27. Brian Branch, S, Alabama 59. Luke Wypler, C, Ohio St 91. Jayden Reed, WR, MSU 130. Toss Up - Karl Brooks or Moro Ojomo, DT And then however they want to close out the last 2 picks with likely camp fodder. I like the best QB available idea.
-
That's news to me. Not necassarily doubting it, but I hadnt heard him state that so clearly. If so, then the Jets have absolutely zero leverage, and GB can demand anything they want. The sticking point before was if GB doesn't move him, there's no reason for Rodgers to not show up and collect his $35M, and $50M fully guaranteed each year for the next 3 seasons.
-
Both teams have plenty of leverage. Packers cant NOT move him at this point either. Hence why they have been at a stalemate.

You aint wrong. They love gambling (and are paid well to talk about it by sponsors like FanDuel and DraftKings). And they love hockey, which is a product of the Bills pulling coverage a long time ago and giving the game broadcasts to 97Rock for a while. WGR stopped covering football for a while out of pettiness and spite, and was pretty much a hockey station (luckily for them that coincided with the Sabres being good in the 00s). On top of their own preference for the sport. They're still struggling with properly covering football even all these years later. Luckily the morning and daytime shows werent around for that, and have pretty decent football coverage.
-
WGR talks about Bills, Sabres, Fantasy Football, Gambling, and then anything else. They do not do "news around the league" unless its big news (like Rodgers to the Jets, and even then it's barely covered). Here in Atlanta its similar. But college sports dominate with UGA (and GATech, Ga State, etc), so you get some coverage of other college football teams, but only as it pertains to how it affects Georgia. Then it's Braves, United, Hawks, Falcons (almost in that order). Not a lot of talk outside of the local teams. That is pretty standard. It's all homer coverage in every city because most folks just want to hear about their hometown teams. And Atlanta is a VERY transient city with a lot of other allegiances. I do highly recommend that all local-Buffalo people get a taste of sports media outside of Buffalo. So they can hear that fans all over the country have the same concerns we do, also think their OL is horrible, etc. It was definitely an eye-opening experience that helped change my perspective on the following the team.
