No, it was 3 years, $133M fully guaranteed. Which would have been up for renewal sooner. And likely would have been the best deal over all. He got $185M guaranteed over 5 years. Had he taken the 3/$133M, he would have been up for renewal 2 years earlier. And as long as his new, new deal covers that $50M over 2 years gap, he's ahead of the game.

How do we impeach a commissioner?

I promise his mom is taking more than $5M Right. He used the standard QB leverage and got nothing extra like he wanted. He went all the way to the end point of that leverage and then had to come back to reality.

That isnt the discussion we were having. We arent discussing whether he earned the standard NFL Franchise QB contract. Of course he did. Good for him. We're discussing whether all this drama and holding out got him anything extra. We're discussing whether it was his master business prowess and negotiation skills that got him this deal or not. And my stance is, he didnt do anything special in these contract negotiations to get "more money". His tactics practically cost him money. And he didnt get his demands.

The team was willing to pay him. Theyve always been willing to pay him a HUGE deal, top of the league. It was only structure and guarantees they didnt agree to. If I was Lamar's family member, and so concerned over his wealth vs health, I wouldve told him to sign the offer back in 2021. So he could be sitting on over $50M AND play in that playoff game last year.

You are applying "regular player" logic to QBs. This doesnt happen among the highly paid QBs. They get their big deals and wait their turn for the next one. If they all started ripping up deals right away, the owners would stop signing the big QB deals. Give examples.

He didnt do anything special or smart. Other than decide to be a QB when he was a kid. He is making more money now simply because time passed and life happened as normal. He didnt get his demands, and he took the standard "next QB in line" contract. Good for him that it was a higher amount than when he started. As it should be. But he caved after he was granted permission to seek a trade and found no market. And after he was tagged and found no market. I dont have any ill will towards Lamar. I'm actually really happy for him that he got paid. Finally. But from a business stand point, he was far more lucky than smart. And that's fine. Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence, etc will all sign bigger contracts. It isnt because they are better at negotiations. It's because they are next in line.

Hurts* But he didnt need to do any of that. His demands of the fully guaranteed had zero affect on any contracts. He could have just said "No, I'm waiting" and been in the exact same situation as other contracts were signed. He made it known publicly that he wanted a fully guaranteed contract, and didnt get it. I dont believe he was just waiting for the market to get to a certain point. He would have signed last year at a lower number than Hurts if it was guaranteed.

In Lamar's defense, it seems he's aware as the rest of us that he is a major injury risk.

The entire crux of the hold up was Jackson demanding a fully guaranteed contract. He caved. The deal he signed, while a bit higher than the last offer due to other new contracts in the market, is the exact structure the Ravens wanted all along. Jackson could have had this contract whenever he wanted. He didnt need to do any of this over the last 2 years. Likely cost the Ravens a playoff win last year over it.

Have other big time QBs held out in the early-middle part of their deal and demanded a new deal before? Trying to think of examples...

That's what folks have been trying to get through to him for months!

All good on the trade back. Just funny because everyone used to give BB ***** for all his trade backs, but it's tough sitting in the high 20s and having to pick non-1st round guys in the 1st round. Was always waiting for him to complete the ultimate trade back series and end up with every pick of the 7th round. As far as LBs are concerned, I'm not in love with Campbell. But I'd take any of Campbell/Simpson/Sanders here, and address OL next. I agree that none of the players are jumping off the page or that special, so I'm just filling roster holes at this point.

Specific player aside, we're currently looking at: MLB - 20 votes OT - 15 votes DT - 14 votes IOL - 11 votes WR - 9 votes Interesting. Didnt think LBs would score that high. Speaking that generally, I'd like to go OL (any OG/C/OT) at 34, then shift to defense at 59. Given the LBs and DTs left, we should be able to snag one there... EDIT: I take that last line back and am changing my vote. I think the LBs would both go between 34 and 59. So take one now. There will be OL available at 59. If not the OTs then there should be plenty of decent IOL to still choose from. Might even be able to get IOL in the 3rd. I'm going LB now.

That's right. That is my opinion and the way I'm voting in this completely meaningless exercise. RT wont matter when we cant even get the ball to Josh. Maybe the new RT will be good at jumping on the fumbled ball rolling around.

I dont want another "fill in" who cant get the snap to Josh as we're shuffling other guys out of position as well. I want to get Josh his new butt-buddy so they can build the familiarity asap, and have his one bum to touch for the rest of his career. RT is also a need, yes.
