It seemed like Josh was hitting Cook immediately in those week 2 and 3 games when our Offense was clicking. Then he gets away from it because... reasons....
-
I believe a knock on Dorsey is that he isnt building more out of those same looks. Sure, the idea is to come out in the same look over and over, and once the Defense thinks they know what we are going to do then do something unexpected. But it doesnt seem like we ever get to that second phase of the unexpected. We come out in the same vanilla look and run the same concepts over and over. And I also believe it is to the point that smart Defenses (like Cincy) know what our reads and routes are, and bait Josh into making certain low percentage throws based on giving him certain pre-snap looks. And there is nothing coming from Dorsey to adjust that.

Mentioned it on the previous page from last night's game. IMO, Reich is too much like McD in his conservative, older school nature. Also, 2 horribly failed HC stints from 1 OC job where he wasnt even calling plays (that was Pederson) We need young, brash and confident/almost arrogant at OC.
-
Yep. After Cincy's 2nd possession I sent my buddy a text saying "McD has no answers. Best we can hope for is Bengals to stop themselves." And then we got lucky on the next 2 possessions as they did exactly that. The only real play our Defense made was when Joseph stuffed Burrow on 2nd and 1. And that was just the player doing it himself. Then the wheels came off for the Bengals and they ended up in 3rd and 15 and 4th and 20. All self-inflicted as we just held on for dear life.

My idea would be if the new OC is really that much of a hot shot, that after next year, we can McD and promote the OC. Only way to fix the cycle we got ourselves into by hiring a defensive HC.
-
Kingsbury is an interesting idea. Wonder if he's holding out for a HC spot. But winning a SB with Josh would be an even better path there.
-
If he came available, would anyone be interested in Frank Reich as OC? Or has he proven to be just as boring, conservative, and ineffective as what we already have? IMO, I'm looking for young and brash, almost arrogant. That isnt Reich. Wonder if Chargers clean house, we could pull off Staley DC, Moore OC. Although I'm not as high on Moore. Always been lukewarm on him since Boise days. Figured he'd make a better coach than player. But havent been wowed much.

I think Bienemy is finally going to get his shot as Head Coach in Washington. New owner going to fire Rivera and move to Bienemy. Now, Bienemy as HC of the Bills is an interesting take...

Yes, McD is doing fine as a DC, but he is failing as a Head Coach. That is the point. If he wants to stay as a DC, then he can take a pay cut and answer to the new Offense-based HC we hire. But we both know that aint happening. He needs to get out of DCing and show us he can actually run the team as a HC. To do that, he'll need to hire some talented Coordinators. Who we got?
-
Yeahnoduh, that's why it's a good discussion topic. We can kinda assume some of the coaches that will get fired. There will certainly be surprises as well. But even with that, I dont see many HCs that could get fired that I'd want as OC. And probably dont want their OC since they're getting fired for a reason. I dont think Nagy is doing himself any favors in KC this year to earn another shot so soon. Kevin Patullo is Philly's Associate head coach/passing game coordinator, and spent time here in Buffalo 2010-2012. How veteran? Like Shula?

Let's assume, regardless of anyone's wishes, McD is safe for one more year. IMO, the best thing he could do for himself as Head Coach is show Terry and Bills Mafia that he really is the CEO of a winning team; and fire Dorsey, fire himself, and hire a new OC and new DC. But who is that? Offense: On staff we have the likes of Joe Brady and Mike Shula Any other upcoming guys hiding as QB coaches out there? Anyone left on the 9ers staff worth looking at? Anyone good enough to be able to take over in 2025 if McD keeps McD-ing? Defense: On staff... Eric Washington? Brandon Staley maybe? Would Ron Rivera do it as a bridge year? Or into retirement? Any sleepers buried on staffs I'm not thinking about? Former players... Assuming McD stays, who is your ultimate staff next year?

They were generating tons of pressure, sacks, and turnovers until we lost some CBs and lost the ability for coverage to allow the DEs to get home. Lately, QBs can get the ball out in just over 2.0secs because their guys are immediately open. The ball is coming out a second before our DEs even get out of their first move. Hopefully Douglas and Benford can help that a bit. If coverage can hold up just a little longer and allow the DEs to get home, the DEs will force bad throws and turnovers to the DBs. All things circular.

Stuck in the mud = Coaching & Lack of Talent
DrDawkinstein replied to PepeSilvia's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beane?!? He has ZERO say in coaching decisions. ZERO. That is all McD and Terry. -
Jim Harbaugh broke his hand punching Jim Kelly in the head. We arent hiring him as anything on the Bills.

That isnt the narrative I got from watching the most recent Cover1 analysis. From what I heard Erik say, Dorsey runs too much of the coverage-beater easy button throws, but then doesnt build anything on top of them such as a different play out of that same look to trick the Defense into giving up a big play. We just run the same easy throw coverage beater over and over until the Defense figures it out and intercepts Josh (like exactly what happened on the INT from Sunday night). Which leads right into your #2.

That tackle by Linval Joseph though

Reminds me of this meme from this week... Because we're down guys at DB and Coverage LB, teams are getting the ball out in like 2.0 seconds flat. Floyd is still wrecking house, they even showed a couple of his rushes on replays this week. But by the time he can get a hand on the QB, the ball is already out because coverage isnt holding up. Most of the guys (not named Von) are still in there and beating their blocks regularly. We just cant get there in the 2 seconds we have. -

I dont think I've ever used a Thumbs-Down or Disagree emoji before. This post got one. -
Cover 1 breakdown of the Dorsey offense
DrDawkinstein replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
You're making an awfully good argument for the folks in the "fire McD" camp. He's supposed to be a Head Coach. Not just a DC. If he doesnt have input on the Offense, then he shouldnt be getting paid like a HC. And we should find a HC who can handle ALL the responsibilities of the job. -
Chicago is a good one. Could also see the Raiders. But agreed, that's about it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT

Let’s hope this is their Tampa Bay 2021 game.
DrDawkinstein replied to Rocbillsfan1's topic in The Stadium Wall
ha sorry, i got your point, but took it in my own direction. wasnt trying to refute you as much as vent about these coaches. agreed 100% about needing to find an identity. the problem is, dorsey is incapable of having one. he inherited an offense with an identity (Josh running), and then immediately set to work to kill that identity without having a great plan for our next one. even when things go great and it seems like we settle on one, like with the fast-paced RPO scheme against tampa, dorsey moves away from it as soon as he can. sure would be nice, but i have zero faith that dorsey and mcd have have had any "ah-ha" moments when their heads are spinning while trying to tread water at their jobs. -
Absolutely. Bottom-5 teams who want to turn it around and would love a wild card spot would be all over him. We're not in that class anymore.

I would also ask - whose job is it to make sure players are executing?
