Call me a terrorist too, because I agree with Chicot. One of the big five mistakes I saw was summarilly firing the Iraq military and much of the people running what was the current infrastructure. And Kiwi Whatever the Hell He Is can bust on me for understanding history, but in Germany we understood that not everyone was SS and the trains still needed to run. That one thing has set back our progress more than a little bit.

Fighting is not cool, typically it is really stupid. I've laughed and shook my head at a barfight now and then. That said, some people need their ass beat. Some, very few, need killing. Each of us needs to know the why and when for any of it. Maybe that last part is really more the issue. Most people don't seem to have a clue any longer.

I know their reputation. The kids are luckier than hell. Apparantly, they were !@#$ing with it for a while before they pointed it out to somebody. Whoever somebody was didn't recognize it as a local, and called animal control - who showed up and turned sort of pale. Wasn't no baby, either. Maybe a five footer?

Dangerous pets. I was watching something last night about people importing dangerous snakes - I mean we're talking cobras and mambas here - getting tired of them and letting them go. Showed a clip of some kids in Florida that found a friggen BUSHMASTER in their garage. What is wrong with people? What kind of idiot thinks it's cool to have Taipan as a pet? Is this a new way to get chicks or something? I've had snakes before, as a kid. I don't care what you do, they find a way to get out now and then.

I think we've generally been pretty successful, overall as a Nation because virtually everyone involved in making it one had to be a tough son of a B word. Now that things have gotten comfortable, the same kinds of ethics and ideals, not to mention learning processes have been either watered down or removed entirely. Life isn't all about "being OK". Sometimes life truly sucks, things are unfair and often the bad guy wins. To avoid that, "we" used to try to change the conditions responsible. Now, someone somewhere generally makes excuses for them and the flow continues on. I have nothing against progress. At the same time, I don't think becoming a nation of flabby milquetoasts is progress. Unfortunately, a lot of the rest of the world is perfectly willing to do what it takes to win. Freely accepting losing, or eliminating the possibility of it is not IMO helping anyone learn anything.

Weird, we never did that. Coaches would find a way to get most of the kids on the field somewhere along the line, because it was the decent thing to do - but I don't remember any specific rule. Either that or I sucked so bad no one told me about it. But, in the spirit of the thought, old grumpy me thinks this country has gotten seriously pussified.
