  1. I'm actually not partisan here. I just happen to know some of the mindsets in DC regarding these issues and smell a turd getting ready to get launched. We have discussed lobbying before. It shouldn't surprise you that that can extend to Homeland Defense policy. That's why I highlighted the fire fighter guy. A lot of dem initiated ideas are to throw a whole bunch of money at the cities for a series of "programs" that can be colored security. The reality is subsidizing a lot of services and activities that would result in little, if any actual increase in security, but would relieve a lot of inner city issues.
  2. I was living in Savannah when it was evacuated for a hurricane. All public transport, all the school busses, everything was used to go through neighborhoods, pick up people who had no recourse and take them to pre-arranged, designated "host" communities far inland. The Governor, and especially the President had nothing whatsoever to do with the hurricane evacuation plan. The point is, they thought about it, they had one, and they executed it. People stayed, but it wasn't because they couldn't leave. I put that square on the back of the NO administration.
  3. Sort of where I figured this was going to go... Like I said, I'll look forward to the actual document. I'm not besmirching your family, or anyone who has served, or anything like that. Also, like I said, I've seen some of their ideas over the last few years and if it is more of the same, it is, IMO, not the right direction to take. More later.
  4. But, you WILL see this on CNN: NO School Busses I bring this up because of this line: An icon for a devestated school system? How about an icon to having an idiot for a mayor? I don't suppose it ever crossed anyone's minds at CNN that if those busses had been filled with residents, and sent west, they wouldn't be on E-Bay?
  5. Yeah, we did. No mercy. But deep down we felt bad for him.
  6. I've done it more than once over a few issues this last month alone.
  7. I remember that. We all felt bad for you.
  8. In this case, I'm concerned with substance. While many here disagree with current security policy and actions, there are some. I've not seen this particular document yet, but I have reviewed for comment some democratic initiated proposals regarding security and defense. Many of those ultimately boiled down to "voter feel goods" in terms of Homeland Defense priorities. If the same ball of wax is going to get peddled, there is at least a chance that the results ain't going to be that good. Some of the problem here, is that sensible actions can look absolutely horrible to the average American. The dems know that and will take advantage. The Admin knows it too, which is part of why they try real hard to never talk about it, because they'd get skewered.
  9. You won't, either. I'm a little saddened by all of those who seem to believe this is a good thing, and that we aren't doing enough to make their lives better.
  10. Asylum? Why didn't they execute him 16 years ago? I love this part... This too... Anyone want to discuss religion of peace on this one? I'd say they are showing their true colors in IMAX splendor.
  11. Neither do I. My concern (based on past performance) is that they are going to peddle something to the voters that on the surface will sound nice, sound bite by soundbite, but in reality make things worse instead of better. I'm in the National Security business, and actually breathed a sigh of relief when Kerry lost. I've also seen enough out of both sides of Congress over the last few years to have serious concerns of their understanding, period. But, a major difference I see between the average democrat vs. anything promulgated by the administration is simply to attack, without judgingg the merits of anything. As Scraps (not the most Bush supporting minded poster here) mentioned, some of these things are already being done - what the dems will do is put some sort of spin to it and try to make it theirs. Just doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. This is all about the power, and they are willing to screw with National Security to get it.
  12. I'm trying to hold off until I can read the actual paper, but on the surface it sounds like nothing more than election tactics, which is sad. As for CIA, it usually takes several years to develop a network of HUMINT operatives, and that is currently being worked on. It can take a year or more just to try to develop a sense of the reliability of a source for a single incident. I don't have a problem with increasing the tempo of the funding for radiation detectors. I don't know why the admin hasn't done so yet. It also takes years to develop skilled SOF's. More a matter of experience than some training thing. As for funding, I believe Brown recently went to Congress and got an extra a couple of billion for Counter Terror ops. Not positive. The "Get Bin Laden" rhetoric sort of warns me it's a PR campaign and little more.
  13. Whatever's on that catches my eye as I surf. I leave either the history channel or NGC on quite a bit for background noise, when I'm not listening to music. Sometimes C-Span if there is an issue being discussed I have an interest in. When I remember to, I'll tune in Battlestar Gallactica. Used to watch the old X-Files and Law and Orders, but they've all been repeated too many times to ever catch anything new. I don't have HBO, so any of those shows are out. I actually HAVE watched some of the new must see shows. Just didn't get into them. 24 is is just too much to take, as I sort of work in that business and can't escape mentally sharpshooting the TV. AI is well...AI. I am surprised at all the spin off shows it has created though. Lost, I saw a couple times and once the flying polar bear appeared, that was it for me.
  14. I was married to a Dallas fan. Love will find a way.
  15. It's an effective commercial, and original...but I can't find the 6 million dollars. I'm not picking - I just can't see it. Manhours? How many people does it take to make a commercial?
  16. Wow. Interesting. If so, I think it would be the Pats. No one besides us wants to see the Bills, most everyone else will want to see the Pats, and the division rivalry would be about the only thing they could play up.
  17. You said "Moulds" "Niagara Falls..step by step" ( How many catch that one without Google?) Damn. I understand fans, but...damn. Y'all better hope I'm not close to your post office when you mail in your official Moulds 1st to fourth opinions ballots, I have a grenade launcher, and I'll use it.
  18. Should I be deleted, moved to consumer digest or banned yet? Crap is getting pretty weak when the Jills are considered not football. No wonder Trendi doesn't say Hi. Is there anything, ANYTHING, that anyone can come up with over one player that we haven't heard 25 times? God forgive me, now I know how Ice felt.
  19. I'll have to dig hard to find it, but I have a picture of my skinny ass holding an Eastern Diamondback over my head with another full foot of her on the ground. Found her sunning on a railroad crossing in Georgia. Big snake. I didn't mention Soup, so don't delete me.
  20. If he's willing to walk off from both the guy in question and his brother, that will work too. Avoids all of it, 450 bucks is not a fortune. Cut your losses and move on. I get the idea he wants everyone to get along, and that's not going to happen. If one is going to maintain the relationships because "family" is involved, well...if one's brother is your "best friend", and turns a blind eye when their brother gets cheated...maybe he's not really your best friend? Blood isn't always thicker than water, one doesn't get a choice as to who they are related to. If it's that big of a deal, cut everyone off and live your own life. Yes, I'm a harsh person, some would consider me pretty evil and mean - but I wasn't the one who asked the question. 450 bucks isn't the real issue here. Not being able to figure out why one is a victim is. This is a pattern, not an incident. In short, either deal with it, or don't. I'll also be the first one to say that walking away from all of it, including his brother is probably the hardest choice, given the value he seems to put on the relationship. Bottom line, when it's all said and done, who is going to look out better for you and yours than you? Especially if one has their own family? Crap, this will probably get deleted too.
