Once the new guys get on-line, it might not be that bad. Help get them trained up and it should raise your stock. Those are some bruising hours, though. There should be a limit. Once folks start consistently running around 65-70 a week, there is too much potential for mistakes. Management fails to see that a lot of times. And I don't know anything about IT - but I'd hazard to guess they aren't doing it for giggles. Must be quite a customer need.

Do they let you stock up comp time? We can get salary plus if it's requested ahead of time with generally known hours - happens rarely - literally takes a war (last time was during the invasion). But, within the shop, no one says much if one takes an few hours here or there. For those kinds of times and hours, would be the least they could do.

Terrorism takes center stage again
Ghost of BiB replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I spent some time on the FBIS yesterday, reading foreign news articles. There was a lot of Muslim condemnation of the attacks. Unfortunately, many of them read along the lines of "We condemn these attacks - but..." You either agree with the bombers, or you don't. Caveating sympathy is worse than having none. -

Who were the religious leaders? It wasn't that long ago that there was a big flap about DoD support to the BSA because of the BSA position against homsexuals as scout leaders and members. could there be a back handed tie in?

I've been perusing the FBIS. there is a lot of muslim denouncement of the attacks. Unfortunately there is a lot of "We denounce - but..." Shouldn't send the mixed messages, but that's just my opinion. -

Games people play. Thank GOD these people don't know what goes on at the AO level. Politics suck, but in an offhand compliment, some are aware, and get out of the way before it can really get ugly. They got their airtime, and made their point to the Hotpockets. Face time on TV. It's what's for dinner.

Most Respected: Gus and his Dad. Especially his Dad. Thirdborn has been through a lot. We fell out of touch about 6 mos. ago. He's a good, good man. Most likely to become president: KRC, seriously. He's on his way, and is truly trying to make a difference. PA's a start, tomorrow - the world. Most Conservative: I'd have to escape from the death camp to report. RIO found out I was Catholic. Most Liberal: Buf65. Hands down. I sort of hope he is Frankle. We do a share a love affair with Diana Krall. Most Artistic: Johnny Coli. Words are art, as well. Runner up for Einstein. Germ Boy is a smart SOB, with a lot of background in a lot of things. Best personality: Definitely not me. I have none. There are some good people here, those that are left. A shared award between many. R. Rich, Rockpile, AD and Cablelady come to mind, but there are many more. Forgive me if i have slighted you by not mentioning you. Our Einstein: CTM, the guy is a veritable cornucopia of useless information, but - he knows how to put it in context, too. That is the sign of intelligence. If I want something that spouts statistics, I can Google. Board Dreamboat: Trendi. Knew a good martini, too. My kind of gal. Most likely to read poetry: BF. He's the only one who qualified himself here, I'm not going to judge. Most likely to design a bills helmet using crayons: I don't know if they post, but whoever is responsible for the current uniform monstrosity. Mr. Doom: He's been doing a lot better since he figured out how to get Xanax from overseas pharmacies. Really. Now, he has a flower garden and a kitty. He calls him "Doom". Cat sort of looks at him in confusion, but it's better than Leocadius. Perfect couple: Couple of what? Lot's of choices, but I'll go with BF and Mensa. He can still read these, even if he can't post. What an idiot. In so many ways. Feel good today, moron? Happy about who you hurt? Be proud. You should try to live past sixteen. No excuse. Some people become adults. Try it sometime. Most likely to start a LAMP: Stojan, of course. How'd he get the posse over KRC's or AD's minions? Saturation. Good job, Steve.

GWB quote from the G-8 re: The above. Simply stated, but pretty well sums it up.

No, because even if it were him, he didn't. I can't believe that you are so far gone as to compare the two.

Jolly Good Show. Congrats to London. Glad it wasn't Paris.

Hence the carrot and stick. Still, even if every leader in Africa turned into George Washington overnight, those countries are not going to improve the standard of living when one out of two dollars or two out of three go to debt repayment.
-
We have pledged a lot of money to fight AIDS. Very recently, Bush pledged 1.5 Billion to fight malaria, which kills more people than AIDS. Current policies in general are to support democratic reforms in Africa by more of a carrot and stick method. When African leadership shows that it is actually doing something positive, they get more carrot. I go back to the debt Africa owes. Before you go blaming America, see what countries are willing or unwilling to forgive debt. When a country like Kenya is repaying loans to the tune of 50% of their GNP each year, there isn't any money left for housing, health care, job creation, etc - at least not on the scale needed to make a dent. Iraq is one piece of the puzzle for an overarching strategic and foreign policy to rid the Middle East of despotic rule and institute some forms of cooperation and if there isn't cooperation, institute new governments friendlier to our strategic interests. Unless this is done, the terror thingy is going to go on for a long, long time. The WMD thing has been beaten to death. Failed intelligence. If there is anyone on this board who has a justifiable reason to be stumped over that one, it's me. You better bet that there is a serious overhaul going on right now in how WMD intelligence is gathered and used. But, although that was used as the reason to hit when we did, it would be almost impossible to make other moves within the region with Iraq existing in the form it did. Technically and legally, we are enforcing UN resolutions they were unwilling to enforce. Going back to Africa, it is also in our strategic interest to try to help them out of their wallow. Yes, it's nice to be able to talk about humanitarian reasons and those certainly are there - but bottom line, neither we, nor any other nation commits MASSIVE resources to something that is not in their own interests.
-
Then talk to me. I'm still waiting for your thought out insight on Africa.
