Just drop it. Who cares what he thinks, any more than anyone cares what I think. I didn't present a black and white perspective, but questioned whether everything deemed progress is truly progress and also presented the idea that it might just be arrogant to think that we will someday have every answer to any question that can ever be asked, because we're "intelligent". The very concept of maybe not being superior to all seems disagreeable to many, so screw it.

Someone is going to find themselves in a bind. Rollover or not, it shouldn't have exploded. Most modern explosives require an initiator - they don't spontaneously go off, especially when new and stable and they shouldn't be transported together. If for some reason they are, they should be packaged to prevent big holes in the highway.

The papers there have already run polls putting him ahead, were there to be an election today. A lot of Israelis are pretty unhappy with the pullouts. Posturing and positioning.

Maybe we only feel that so much is good because we are the inventors. When you come right down to it, who cares where we came from? We're here now. Some upright ape 2 million years ago didn't invent the polio vaccine, nor the hydrogen bomb. It's irrelevant, except for that "monkey curiosity" we seem to have. What does it matter? Does proving we are an offshoot of some simian tree (or not) actually change anything in our lives? Toxic? What are the ramifications of erradicating all disease, and extending human life? The world can't feed what it has now? more people, more damage to the ecosystem. And through it all, everyone wants to have it all ways. Crap doesn't work that way. If you are going to have more people, you're going to have more deforestation to make space for them. You will also have this thing called wars, which no one seems very fond of. People can say war is about religion all they want, and to an extant that is true - but most often war is about either gaining or defending space. And just how much science and technology has been developed to support war - or to help mitigate or prevent it, vs the amount developed to support peace? Or am I toxic simply because I don't agree with someone? I actually don't agree with anyone here, either side.

Scientists are narrowly focused guys who do things because they can, not because they should.

Some day we're all gonna die. Everyone of us. Can't avoid it, it happens. When it's over, it can be either all there is, or maybe it's something more? I prefer to think there is something more, and if you want to espound that we have disproved that through science, I guess you're going to have to die and rot. I'll take my chances that we're not the greatest thing in the entire universe, maybe there are things we don't know, much less understand, and that there might just be construction contracts we didn't get to bid on. Doesn't mean "God", in Man's terminology. But, if some of you want to belive you are all the all powerful, more power to you.

No, but polarization is the sign of the times. Things are just going to get worse. Being right AT THE TIME is what is important, at least in one's own mind, or maybe institutional. All this scientific process has degenerated into delving into what someone else has done, taking their work and progress and running the same up another couple notches. Hard to find independant thought, anywhere. We're regressing, scietifically - not advancing. Yes, it's philosophical, I guess...but so many of the intellectual, scientific folk are competing to either build on or dispute someone elses theories and precepts, that they have lost site many times of what might be new. I'm sure they call it advancement, but it's often old work under a new name. People with money don't give new money to something new, unless they are very wealthy, eccentric and altruistic.

Than why have we never, in our history, done it?

And so continues the enigma. Maybe we were meant to understand a little at a time. Maybe no one besides us cares. Ever also consider that there might be a force that doesn't? The truth is, whatever questions that are answered through science (Disclaimer for those black and white amongst us...I know it's hard to get out of the box..., but I'm all for answering the questions of our time through the means we have) inevitably lead to more questions, more grants, more research, more answers to the problems at hand. I personally have no problem with that. Were it not for that we'd still be dying of the plague on a regular basis. At the same time, it does become a game. Also, a game with serious social-economic impact. Have those that are firm die hard believers in evolution taken into account that their manipulation of life skewers the process? Yes, we have the technology and the medicine to keep people alive long past the point they shouldn't be. Once again, pick a Hunter thread. We also have the power to usurp the rights of one species (let's forget humanity) to possibly artificially further the cause of another. Why introduce wolves back to an ecosystem they have been eradicated from? If this is natural selection, than we are part of the process. But, we are not doing it biologically - the entire premise is based on evolving to meet the demands. We aren't doing that. We are conciously shaping. Big difference between Australapothecus and us. Sorry for my spelling, I didn't look it up.

Something I never thought about, that SDS turned me onto is that one can go to any major chain grocery, like Safeway, and just order them special. I've done that for getting special dog buns and stuff before, but it never crossed my mind that you could get something more regional. You can make them yourself, but it might not hurt to hit the local Publix and find out.
