  1. Part of the problem with Katrina is the scale. Andrew, as devestating as it was turned out to be a very compact storm, and moved laterally through the state. Much smaller footprint. Katrina was much more massive, and moved inland. No comparrison on the water damage and flooding, either. There have been many hurricanes and other events since Andrew that have been dealt with pretty well. We are talking several thousands of square miles being affected, all the way into Georgia. I have a feeling that by the time it's over and done with, things will get re-organized again, but there's a point where you just can't afford to plan past a certain level. Somewhere, someone has to make a call on acceptable risk, in many different areas. It's very touchy to try to explain things that way, because they can be made to sound awfully bad when they are not.
  2. There's the superpower factor too. Many countries EXPECT their leaders to be perverts and hedonists, but the US is held to a different standard simply because it's the US. There were some very questionable things going on in the background with the Clinton administration. I sometimes wonder if they let the Monica fiasco run full course knowing it didn't really MEAN anything other than appearances, to deflect attention from other issues (China, for example).
  3. That's a very good point. I actually think the gloves came off with Nixon, though.
  4. They bleach well. And you'd be surprised how sexy young women love lasagna.
  5. Yeah, I don't expect anyone to believe me. It happened, more than once. Whatever. I've always thought a certain dignity to the office of the President. Don't underestimate the impact and subtleties of that. Blowjobs don't count? Yes, they do. JFK knew how to keep crap quiet. Some of you want to speak of how we look across the world. Well, we have looked bad for a while. nobody really paid attention personally before Bill. Shot our credibility as to the office. Don't matter? We all have our opnion.
  6. No I'm not, and I'll jump up and down and tell you why.
  7. More than once, but since it can't be linked, it didn't happen.
  8. OK, you win. I invite you as well to tell everyone how to make it better, Bluefire? What's your plan?
  9. I like the crisp white cotton uniforms.
  10. Me. I'll win. Don't you understand government?
  11. Valerie Prime is a non-story, and that is not being partisan either. And, blow jobs can be a bigger deal. Perceptions. Having Monika raving at the Whitehouse gate because she wasn't allowed in while President Clinton was meeting with a slim 30 something blonde? Her argument was she was dissed. She had to be physically removed. That's the President? Of the United States? I agree with the idea of the dignity of the office. I also know that a President has responability to a certain level. I also don't think letting things get that far out of control sends a positive sign.
  12. If we could only get the bunnies to eat the Retatta....but that might mess up the entertainment factor. There is efficient government, and there's government. Which would you like to be a part of? You WILL remember that I was the only one who had enough sense to wear my medals on both sides of my chest, so I wouldn't walk in circles. Since everyone but DCBill (He just sucumbed to the weight, and lay on the floor like a beached slug) put them over their heart, they made continuous left hand turns and never made it to the official government casino. KRC was always the scary one...he watched the Godfather three times.
  13. Just my opinion, but it actually started with Kennedy. Clinton was the coffin nail. JFK has been given a tremendous pass, in history.
  14. We bow to the master. And then we'll ignore you. You were supposed to have the food stuff under control during the insurrection - we ended up with twinkies and expired C-Rations. Where the fugg is my bunny pate? Government credibility. Bah.
  15. I take exception to that, west coast squid homo... I drink more wine than beer and I'm not a pansy. French wines are about the only thing good I can come up with for them, cognac and champagne as well. Of course I drink more vodka and scotch than wine, so what do I know.
  16. That just doesn't seem right, though. Does Albany have that strong a Pat's fan base? Both will be great games (I hope) but the Bills are the only true NY team (a fact often forgotten). If they were to not play the Bills, I'd expect the Pittsburgh game, not the Pats. Maybe the Jets-Miami. The Pats?
  17. I'll Google...but honestly have never heard of it. Good?
  18. Yes, the man, the myth, the legend. The one who destroyed any respect most of this country and the rest of the world ever had for the American Presidency.
  19. I'll take you on in the lasagna department. So, believe it or not will the feces flinging simian. Also, I never want to hear "slot" and "slide in" associated with you in the same sentence again, if you want to be part of this administration. When Condi wins, we don't need any left over Clintonites.
  20. I think that was the period where you were having your office appointed in rich corinthian leather.
  21. I caught a little blip on History Channel last night about the old NIKE bases (no, that's not shoe distribution warehouses). We had one in Lancaster. Was interesting to see them open those concrete doors and stick the missiles out. I think it belongs to the town now, don't really know what happened to it. (That was back in the early 60's, Dev)
  22. GLOWING BUNNY!!!! Not even. It's "The Independant Bunny Party of America" (IBP). Always was a little confusing because the basic platform is to eliminate all bunnies, but since no one ever reads the small type we got by with it. I was supreme dictator at one point, but it took about 30 seconds for the rest of the morons to come up with assassination plots, and Ed quit being my food taster because he wanted to lose weight.
  23. Yes, and like Kirk I can still catch fine young women.
