  1. Germany is in some really bad shape, right now.
  2. From a note I got from my friend today. They don't like stuff any more than we do. Everyone has to live with it.
  3. Not my favorite movie of all time, but something you don't see every day. One has to think, and that's not what movies are about anymore. People don't watch movies to think and appreciate. They watch them to see cool stuff.
  4. We just hijacked a thread. Isn't it fun? Seriously, I looked at a lot of the nominees. This is NOT a "visual impact in terms of special effects" movie. It is a classic ghost story. A lot of people here would turn it off after the first 30 minutes. I don't think you will, though.
  5. You'd like her, but Lana would get jealous. You ever try the movie we talked about?
  6. Portland is a GREAT town. One of the better kept secrets of New Bruschi (We're not worthy!).
  7. Tom's exactly right. Weapons proliferation - the networks, methods, rules, treaties...are really very complicated. Valerie would have been a much better choice, and so would about 1,000 other people. There's more than one fox in the henhouse here, but I doubt it ever makes the news, unless someone wants to look at the entire big picture. It's not so much techical stuff (physics, whatever) as it is knowing where to look, knowing what to ask and knowing when you're being lied to.
  8. Well, his girlfriend told him what to think. What do you expect? Rambo?
  9. I have friends all over the world. Even the ones in government are rarely "their government". Yeah, a lot of the French have attitudes, so do a lot of Americans. So does everybody else. Get to know people, people. You might be surprised. I personally am grateful for the friendship I have with a lot of people in places that you wouldn't think anyone talks to. Their opinions, insights and ideas are valuable to me, and I in return try to teach them that not all Americans are what they see on TV. All this "everyone" bashing just bugs me sometimes. I personally-professionally have a lot of issues with the French government and their policies, but my little friend Elodie is a very sweet and fun person, and could care less. I feel somewhat the same about people I know in Pakistan, Poland, China, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, Germany, Spain, Malaysia and a dozen other places. OK, sermon over.
  10. I can't say anything, because Uncle whatever is sharpening his axe. Otherwise....
  11. This could be a case of VABills timekeeping...
  12. Sucks, don't it? Oh, wait...that didn't come out right, did it? Sorry, my bad.
  13. This thread is just about enough to make me shake my head with wonder. Then I consider the depth of thought, knowledge and understanding. Got a note this morning from a friend of mine that lives very close to the problem. She says things have calmed down a lot, and she even went out to dinner last night. I'm glad she's safe.
  14. How many more years are we willing to take, Scott? But, that's already been discussed. We have no control, and I'm not sure we'd want it, either.
  15. I've never watched the show, but someone told me about an episode with a missing missile that just sort of took off and hung out somewhere for a while.
  16. There is a lot more to this story than is being pushed through certain medias. Going to be hard to convince anyone, but it did not take long for everyone involved, including the WH to realize that the documents were poorly done forgeries. The problem is, there was SEPARATE evidence known to British and also German intelligence that somrthing might be going on in so far as a uranium purchase involving Niger. Wilson went to investigate - another long story, and absolutely the wrong guy for the job - but his focus was on the Italian documents that everyone, including him knew were garbage. I don't know, but i don't think he had the full skinny on what else was going on. I'm pretty sure he was given "go forth and do well" types of instructions, and then in a large part due to the fact he has NO counterproliferation experience, didn't put everything together, and didn't really know who to talk to. So, he once again corroborates that the Italian documents were junk, meanwhile the WH runs with other information that can't be easily discussed. The lines between it all get blurred, and here we are. Once again.
