V-coach: McGahee AT mini-camp this week
oregonbbfan replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is still an ingrate who may know the meaning of those two words, and the word ME but doesn't know what TEAM means. He has much God given talent and I hope he matures to maximize it with a franchise who went out on a limb to make him a first rounder and gave him a year to re-hab. We'll see. -
Just one difference with Willis and Moorman not reporting to OTA's. Moorman would not be learning one thing as the coach and system will be the same. Not so with Willis who must learn a new system with new coaches . I feel a lot of last years early games gaffs behind the line ( handoffs, running wrong route, confussion, etc. ) were partly from not enough repetitions. Some could have been JP's but it's all about being on the same page and practice, practice and practice. And, how about doing a little more than is asked for. I worked plenty of extra , non required tme in an effort to make my company successful. What has happened to extra effort?

Now it is starting to make sense...
oregonbbfan replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe the Moulds issue plays into this. EM will not play on a team with JP. Maybe Marv is seeing what JP will bring and EM will renegotiate if JP is gone. Then things endup like this: EM at reduced salary and a fair #1 or possession WR JP gone and either draft choices or people ( OL, DL) . JW anyone? GB did want JP Vince or Cutler Wow, I can't believe how much speculation is going on. I'm a JP supporter but who knows? I wish Marv would move on something -
Now we see who can play poker
oregonbbfan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look, as I said prior, we shouldn't let this drag on. A way to get things off center is to work with GB ( where I'm pretty sure EM doesn't want to go ) in earnest to come up with a deal we can both live with. The Bills may have to eat some of the salary, exchange picks or players or combinations. It has to be good for both or it will not happen. EM knowing that we can trade him without his acceptance and to a place he is not going to get a ring will work with Philly or Denver and the Bills to rework his contract to get a trade to a team he wants or he ends up in GB. The choice is EM's. You can replace GB with any team having WR needs. The object is to get a deal done in principle with a deadline for EM to make or break the deal. This will get the EM issue resolved before the draft so we can fill in the blanks on draft day. -
So Moulds IS getting some play
oregonbbfan replied to Mile High's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My concern is we don't wait too long to get something done. Last year we had all this angst till draft day with Henry and then didn't a pick till the next year. We got tooled by Tennesee. They had Henry all year ( except for suspension) and we wait till this year. Same with PP pick MaGahee. Another lost year. We are not an elite team who has the luxury of depth and no need for talent. Don't let this EOM thing go on. He doesn't want to be there. Get a third or fourth, move up or whatever but get it behind us and get a good draft board planned. -
Our team's destiny lays with our scouts and I have numerous concerns. Is Donahoe a victim of poor scouting? I know TD was a know it all and wanted everyone to know how smart he is but who makes up that draft board. Scouting can make a GM look good or bad. Now TD can screw that all up by not listening to the scouts or worse taking bad data from bad scouts. If the scouts are good and give TD nothing but good options, and TD listens to his scouts, then whomever TD picks will be a good pick. So a lot of questions need to be answered. Do they do post appraisals on scouts and how all their picks/recommendations pan out? Higher credability given to those scouts with more correct assessments? Setting up the board for needs vs best athlete available. Last but very important is who and how is the final decision made. I wish I had info on how we arrived at a lot of picks. How influencial was Modrak in TD's picks? We could be in trouble if TM influenced TM on some of these picks. The process and who are the power brokers would give me more insite going forward. I pray first that our scouts have good data, than that they put a board together based on our priority of needs based on thorough analysis , the team or scouts/ postion coaches/ Modrak come to consensus and Marv doesn't try to be fancy. I think we will have a strong draft if we do this. We then need to do the same process in free agency. Marv needs go after the best ( with upside not cheap on the downside ) athlete available for our needs and he must convince RW to pay what is necessary.

Haslett because of connection to Bentley. If Jim says LB will come over, hire him. If we hire JH and LB doesn't come over, JH may not be so with the troops and we are .... you know what!

Where Do You See The Nfl In 5 Years?
oregonbbfan replied to billsboys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably still #1 but all the questions could be answered if they would do the following: Give both teams 3 calls/ half on ANYTHING! This game is so fast it wouldn't be a come down for the ref's. A bad ball spot, interference or moving lineman can cost a game. Let's get it right when so much is on the line! -
I have to give to gang that couldn't straight credit, their plan worked perfectly. If Ralph let MM go, he was hooked for $3-4 Million to honor his contract. So, to reduce or eliminate the salary, they had to get MM to quit. They knew if they kept him he would have trouble getting quality, experienced coaches to take a position with a coach on a short leash. Probably had trouble even getting a phone call back. Had to be very frustrating trying to gave a favorable sales pitch with all the issues this year, i.e. player issues ala Sam and EOM, organization , released coaches, etc. MM had an impossible task and the Management team knew it. How they got MM's kid scolded I don't know. But with all the frustration from 6 years of no playoffs and many losing seasons, the nasty calls and threats were inevitable. So the last piece came into place for MM to cut bait. With all these obsticles, MM called it quits and played into Ralphs frugal hands. Don't know what MM's severence is if any but if they hire Haslett it could be a financial windfall. JH is owed, per Lennie P, about $3.6M for 2006. Jim may give Ralph a first year break for the job knowing Benson is subsidizing ( paying the difference ) him in 2006. The plan cleared the slate, now they have to do something with the opportunity and extra money to turn it around. Go Marv Go Bills!

There is more to this than meets the eye
oregonbbfan replied to Tolstoy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could it be disgust with what happened to his kid the other day. He's a family man and in being protective maybe wants out of Buffalo because of it. -
Can anyone post the dates that free agency starts, when Franchise Tags get put on , Draft Date and when players must be cut to save (if there is a date this year)

Watching the playoffs
oregonbbfan replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone else pick-up on the fact that both New England and Carolina who we had statistically in our game, on the ropes and couldn't put them away both won convincingly. The other, Cinci. we beat with their #1 QB, didn't do as well but was in the playoffs and might have faired better with Palmer. We have some talent when our game plan is good and takes advantage our players and exploits theirs. That's what bugs me. So what gives me hope is with Marv, some tweeking of personnel and better conditioning we can turn it around. -
There is a lot of questions that out of towners don't get from the radio and tv like you all do. Also, we get a lot of hear say or undocumented info on the web. Please bring us all up to date with confirmations on the following: Is Grey gone? Is Rolle gone? Is it true on Krumrie? Any other other assistants gone? Any scuttlebutt on who Marv is talking to on: Pro Personnel Guru, new Assistants / coodinators, any interviews set up and with whom, final structure. Anything else we should know, not speculation. Thanks, and Turn it around Marv!

Levy signing a joke...
oregonbbfan replied to ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel that Levy will add stability that is sorely needed. It will provide the most change ( for the better ) without starting over completely. It will get us going in the right direction and achieve our goals quickest. I am supporting him for the following reasons: 1) We complain that too much of the old regime is still here and it will get worse because we need a complete personnel cleanout. Doing so would add a ton of time to recovery. Also, I feel replaceing the 3-4 who really are responsible, i.e TD, TC, JG and the strength coach (still here?) will straighten things out. 2) What makes us so sure the above replacements will be filled correctly. We don't know for sure but input from Modrick, Marv, Head coach and Wilson ( weighted to the specialists ) will eliminate some foolish picks. I don't know for sure but from the conferences I pick up that TD used his authority to override consenses to make picks that bring him into notoriety. I think we'll now be addressing the place that makes all the others work better , the OL and DL 3) What about FA and coaches. I think Marv's stability, his past, overall knowledge and overall likeability will help getting the the free agents needed or spend for the correct ones. As for coaches, Marv has a lot of connections and will help MM pick the correct ones. Also, in a backhanded way, whomever comes in knows there may be upward mobility. I feel we have taken the venom out of the wound and are on our way to recovery of a once proud franchise. -
Other reasons for our season
oregonbbfan replied to oregonbbfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I respect your opinion but then why do they play Super Bowls in places where conditions are optimal? Domes or warm weather. We don't have warm weather in February. -
Other reasons for our season
oregonbbfan replied to oregonbbfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've actually been there to watch the Twins and agree to a degree about sterility. A retractable roof is the best if you can afford it. The NFL should extract a portion of revenues and suppliment each team for upgrades to new stadiums. -
I will never forgive TD for getting rid ( elevating out of the way ) of Rusty Jones. We were always one of the best conditioned teams from an injury standpoint but MOST importantly for hydration and stamina in warm wether games. We lost in Tampa Bay and Miami because our D ran out of gas. Yes they were on the field a long time but we were always the last team standing before. How about strength to go along with the conditioning? We are constantly pushed around on the line. Now for the controversy: You can say all you want about home team advantage and I agree with crowd noise as an advantage. My question is all continually write that they don't want a dome or retractable roof but I think all teams should have one. This way, all teams play on a field that isn't affected weather, can see a Super Bowl vist once in awhile and only noise should be the home advantage. Point being, if the field is so frozen you cannot run as was the case in the Denver game, you have no advantage if you cannot run or are not as good as the other team is at running. Or, if wind or cold is so bad that all players are not able to play to their potential. To say nothing about injuries from slipping or crashing down on frozen ice. Those players are not crazy and want to protect their careers. We lost probably 4-5 games this year due to these issues. Look back this year and you will see we do not perform well in warm weather or on a frozen field. I think people want to see a game where your team can beat the other team with all conditions optimal. JMO PS: with regard to MM " a good coach can beat you with his'ns ( people) and he can beat you with your'ns" Bum Phillips

I think RW is planning a move. He may be feeling out JJ not only for information but for a couple of other reasons. 1) RW needs some discipline in the organization. Strange how TD was no where to be heard during the EM debacle. Cannot have the inmates running the asylum. 2) JJ would't come as a coach. Only as the decision maker 3) Another strong reason for this or another change. RW needs someone who will get Free Agents to come here. FA will not come anymore with TD here. 4) keep the finance guy to watch and work with JJ on the cap( if that is possible with JJ). I suspect JJ as GM with power to hire and fire. This lack of overall power will make TD resign and go to St Louis ( he and madaam Ram make a good couple) thereby relieving RW of TD's salary. JJ now has all the power and is able to get FA and wheel and deal in the draft. TM stays as scouting guru with JJ. JJ makes changes at OC and DC with some input from MM. MM on a very short leash. Just a

I feel Losman should start but that sends a message for this year. Example is Bollinger in NYJ will be/may already be ahead of JP. Different situation on why he's starting but is providing a spark, is learning and improving. How long before we start thinking long term instead of short term mediocrity.
-
I say possibly because it may not be complete till we see Preston at C. Now, I've not played organized football just watched it for about 50+ years. Don't know all the fine terminology and schemes but can see our D is doing something wrong or lacking this year. Flame me if you want but our coaches need to get creative on D, think outside the box or this year is lost. TD has not put enough effort ( trades, draft move- ups or FA) into getting impact and quality DL beef. Simon would have looked good about 5 games ago. What about more beef on the line to pressure the QB without blitzing all the time. I see Lawyer cannot get past their line. Again, these are out of the box ideas, JG hasn't come up with anything creative. Be nice in criticism and give your creative idea. Idea #1- put a 5th lineman in instead of MLB. This adds pressure and more beef on the line to stop up the sieve. We'll be more succeptible to screen and slants but the others must help. Idea #2- 5 man line with 2 DE's and 3 DL's, no MLB. Idea #3 Formations- Bellicheck had all his line meandering so you couldn't decide who the rushers are or who your line assignments are. Don't know the rules about 3 point stances on the line but I'm sure I'll find out. These are way out ideas and I'm sure you all have more. Let's hear them. Again, these are ideas about something different because it ain't working as is.

I've never understood this anti TD movement
oregonbbfan replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was for TD when he came here because Butler got us into cap jail. I now feel TD hasn't got the job done. The name of the game is W's. Get W's and the seats will be filled. He has done just enough to peak fans loyalty each year to continue to fill the stands. In looking over all your analyses it appears he's about average on adding talent. It is difficult to be perfect in all talent decisions. I would review my scout system. Seems they do OK in the D backfield but poorly on the lines, especially D. I also believe he is always trying to do it on the cheap in the free agent market. We got little help this year in the draft this year and FA was poor so essentially, we went backwards this year. In my opinion TD is always trying to find the next new Holmgren. He tried twice now and our record shows it. If he cannot tolerate a strong, experienced coach, then he needs to call it rebuilding and go with youth. He keeps trying to win with too many old players mixed with too little young talent. TD needs to make some major talent infusions though the draft and in free agency. That is not an easy task since players want to play where the endorsements are and they see who is winning or about to win. In conclusion, TD must find a way to bring impact talent by trading, moving UP in the draft to get monster D linemen or FA, getting proven O linemen in FA and getting creative in long term contracts. Review coaching talent and scouting system. Wish we had kept LeBeau. I would give TD one more year to get these areas straightened out. He needs to have a huge off season in the draft and FA and get at least 5-6 games of field time for JP. I think TD knows this too! -
The "TD" needs to leave thread...
oregonbbfan replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe we should look at our scouts. Looks like the DB and CB scouts are doing their jobs. I'm not impressed with line ( both ) scouts. Did many/any of our scouts go with AJ Smith? Did TD bring in his own people? I would look at scouting because we haven't found many gems in late rounds. Chances are better the higher you are but not a sure thing. -
The "TD" needs to leave thread...
oregonbbfan replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, Denney was a 2nd rounder, I'm talking 1st round #10 or under. As I said, IMPACT player. That was a ploy to upstage Pitt. Losman was hurting the next years draft. I would have done it with 4-7 in that years draft. Then we would have had a first this year to go up and get another need. Also, I think Losman will work out with a little pressure from the town off him. He was proclaimed starter in Feb. I can imagine the pressure. I still think he will be OK. -
The "TD" needs to leave thread...
oregonbbfan replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I said last week, TD tries to build the team on the cheap. He trades down in the draft for mediocre players instead of combining choices to move up for IMPACT players. Drafting lots of 2nd day players gets you an average team. He has hit on some players ( McGee, Schoebel) but more times than others they miss or leave when they've learned the trade in Buffalo. They must trade up with this years choices and get two high impact players, first on Defense then Offense. With money saved from multiple picks go after 2-3 free agent impact players. Let the soft and old go and get JP time this year. I am sick of watching this soft and inadequate team get humiliated week after week. With impact players our D can get off the field. You get demoralized when they run it down your throat and your O can't get on the field. -
Well, Its All come together for Buffalo,
oregonbbfan replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I cannot sit and read any longer without adding my input. First, I'm a longtime lurker who has followed the Bills since my days of watching them at the Rockpile. My thoughts on TD are beginning to change for the worse. When Butler left, TD brought his team in and has done a better job with the cap and financials which I'm sure Wilson likes. I felt then that letting chief scout Smith go was a mistake. We have done a fair job in finding talent but not as well as Smith did at SanDiego. This year may be a total loss with no help from this year's draft or free agency even though we had about $3 million left over. We did not improve by subtraction. To make matters worse is the fact that if we don't start winning we will not sign people we've developed or attract good free agents. I love the Bills ( since 1960 )and always will so what is done is done and I wll not dwell on what shoulda or coulda and will give my plan for getting the respect we had back. Salvage this year: Game plan better to use screens, quick outs and elimination of our tendencies. MM must review and hold the OC accountable. Get JP comfortable and confident or alternate with Kelly Holcomb. We need W's. Scan the waiver wire, bring in free agent and look at trade options. Remember the Polian trade for Biscuit? We cannot stand pat. Add talent next year: My complaint has been that we do not do enough to get the Defensive talent we need to not always have to blitz. The blitz should be used more spareingly, not be our only pressure on the QB. Good defensive lines make all the people behind them better. We need to combine our draft choices to move up and draft fewer but better talent. TD needs to not be so conservative with the bucks and bring in more talent like he did a few years ago. I think now he was let go because he is too fiscally conservative. Getting more W's: Do we need more or better coaches? Saban seems to have done pretty well. This is a time of specialties and attention to detail. Conditioning: No one said it before Tampa Bay but I was worried big time that if our D was on the field too long, it was all over. We area cold climate team and no team should have to play in that heat but until we all play in domes we better be the best physically. Sorry for the rant but a lot has been pent up for a long time. The Bills have the best fans in the league and deserve a SB Victory. These are my simplified (could be more complex and lengthy) ideas and will welcome responses as long as they are civil. Hopfully we turn it around and Go Bills!
