  1. Joe Gibbs would not have gone back to coach anyone but the skins, and Parcells can no longer be re.lied upon to stay long enough to get the super bowl win. As for others to interview, I can't think of anyone else with a proven track recordin the NFL that was available. Most of the other HC's hired were previously assistant's and guys like sherman, haslett, and others were not hired by those teams either. I don't believe it was all about the money. Yes, businesses are set up to make a profit, to get the most bang for the buck, but I have watched many teams throw their money around like drunken sailors and reached the holy grail, like Miami, Jets, Redskins, etc. Money doesn't always bring the desired results, whther spent on coaches or players.
  2. What is with the money angle on everything? Coaches who are paid top money have either been in the playoffs consistently, won or been to super bowls, and are normally on the same team for years. Is Ralph cheap? I don't know, but when you are job hunting, the company makes an offer, then you counter. Then both sides compromise. As for bates not being unemployed long, consider that the DC position are almost all filled, and sitting out a year will not get you better money next year, unless he gets an HC job. I haven't heard of him being offered jobs by other clubs yet. I think he will take the position, then spring board to an HC opening next year.
  3. If Sherman was such a great choice, why hasn't he been more sought after by the other teams needing a head coach?
  4. Ditto
  5. Of course I'm happy, I don't live in the fantasy world of most fantasy football league owners on this board. Jauron, as with all HC's must have the players to be successful. This will be ML's job along with Modrak and the scouting personnel. Let's get on with stocking this team with experienced co-ordinators and talented players on the interior. Sherman couldn't do it without the players either.
  6. With MM gone and DJ in, we may be able to keep Sam Adams and add another run stopper. Ngati maybe. Moulds can probably be restructured since going out on the open market after being released won't get him the money he wants, and the contenders are going to be cash strapped. Mike Williams takes a huge cut to stay and prove himself or he's gone. Now let's get OLine Free Agents and draft on both lines for future replacements. QB? could be question or not KH known commodity. JP was getting the hang of it. probably would have been ok except for poor schemes after script ran out.
  7. No. One guy must be in total command. Coordinators are co-coaches not the HC. Hollywood doesn't have a clue about the real world.
  8. I'm sure many of the posters do not remember when ML came to Buffalo from being fired in KC. He was not thought of very highly as a HC. He was the victim of following the Hank Stram legend, with a mediocre team of players, having limited success. We didn't have much of a team then, and you had to rebuild almost exclusively from the draft or trades.( No free agency). Within 3 years we had a playoff caliber team, and after that a championship caliber club. Now we have a team with serious deficiencies that can be corrected through free agency. How does that affect a coach like Jauron? He like Marv is a delegator, so the real key is who he will have as coordinators, and will he establish a winning attitude. The asst coaches hold the key. Bring in seasoned DC and OC with Linemen and we can turn this around immediately.
  9. I can handle that
  10. Can you say tuck rule? Looks like the streak comes to an end
  11. No. Toomer doesn't get it done anymore.
  12. i agree with the idea that we don't need another Coordinator looking to make the move up. We need a proven head coach, who has had winning playoff seasons under his belt. 1.) Sherman 2.) Marv with Haslett as DC to move up in 2-3yrs. 3.) Haslett
  13. Right on. JJ couldn't do it in Miami, and they spent a ton of money. he doesn't have it when you can't audition 200 plan B players, which is how he built the Cowboys pre cap.
  14. Does anyone remember Ditka trading away the entir draft for Ricky Williams, that leveraged NO for years to come. They never got it all back, when Ricky was traded. Therefore, I am not sure they ever recovered. 2000 was ayear in which they had a very soft schedule and the end of whatever veteran talent they had. Each year players kept bailing.
  15. This meeting was not about keeping MM. It was how to gracefully get out of this situation. How much severance was the question? Been there in corporate business.
  16. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is a good thing. A.) HC is not a lame duck. B.) New HC will probably have a three year contract, meaning assistant coaches will have the opportunity to come in prove themselves, without immediate pressure to perform or be gone. C.) Some young nucleus talent is in place. Other talent can be purchased or drafted. D.) The right HC with a proven record can attract the right talent we need. (Sherman comes to mind first) E.) Possible quick turn around first year.
  17. i certainly hope Marv reads this board. He will certainly get a lot of information on how to handle his new job. nothing better than a bunch of wannabee GM's with all the solutions.
  18. Cagney wasn't it, or Bogart. I forget.
  19. Unfortunately, it is the posters on this board who act like this is a fantasy league. My best guess is most have never run an operation of any kind, but are always wiser than the boss.
  20. i have a real problem with peaple who maintain that an owner is cheap or a pennypincher when it comes to salaries, especially when we are almost always at or over the salary cap maximum each year. maybe we should spend 20 or 30 mil over the cap like the Redskins in previous years or like the jets, or miami. Spending money is not the answer, who to spend it on is. As to buying coaches, i'm not sure that money was the reason we hired the coaches that we did. It seems that the interviewing was the ultimate criteria. Also, Greg Williams was a highly touted candidate, just like Marvin Lewis, john Fox and others. Mularkery amy have been more a buddy decision, but we really won't know. The members of this board are probably more into what have you done for me lately, than looking at the overall picture. Did MM make decisions we wouldn't have? Sure, but then again what guarantee do you have that your calls would have worked? He guided this team to 9-7 the first year, with a polished, veteran QB. he flopped with a 2nd year "rookie", believing the other two parts of the team D & ST's would more than compensate. in hindsight, bad choice. If we change coaches without truly evaluating the one we have, we will be rebuilding with new Offensive and Defensive systems, guaranteeing another 2 years out of the playoffs.
  21. Not if we don't improve the O-line drastically.
  22. I believe Brandon will be handling the cap. Modrak will be deciding on players with MM on who to bring in to fit this system. Marv's Job will be to evaluate the pieces and report to RW. IMHO
  23. A.) New OC was coming anyway, since TC hasn't been calling plays since 5th game this year. B.) I would believe new strength and conditioning coach this year. Too many weird injuries, and tired players at games end. Probably biggest sticking point in meeting given frienships and all. Tough to fire people close to you, but if not done when warranted, you perform injustice to the organization. C.) Don't know about Gray, but hope he gets HC job at College level somewhere. D.) Coordinators looking to make a name for themselves relish situations like this. Egos you know. Coming here would be challenging for them. E.) Offseason Acquisitions through FA, and draft plus restructure specific contracts would change us significantly. Assuming wise acquisitions.
  24. Abysmal was putting it mildly if you watched the steelers play back then.
  25. Your assumption is MM called the play, when its possible it was another KH checkdown or audible.
