Arlington Cemetery a clear eyed examination
Scraps replied to Starr-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Having read Harris's statement, I see nothing wrong with it. Arlington National Cemetery is not the place for politics. -

I have no problems with the families inviting him. They do not however get to decide Arlington National Cemetery policy. I expect them to follow the rules just like the rest of us. -

This wasn't an oopsie. There was no bureaucratic "rubber stamp". Using Section 60 for political campaigns is illegal. There are not hoops to jump through to make it okay. This was made clear before and when he showed up. Nobody is criticizing him for going. He is deservedly being criticized for producing and issuing campaign adds off of this. -

Like I said, he is using these families. -

The army is saying the woman decline to press charges. The didn't say no charges are necessary. It wasn't misguided. When someone is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, they are given a set of rules of what is and what is not allowed. They knew this ran afoul of ANC rules. Trump knew this ran afoul of ANC rules. They did it anyway which is in disrespectful to the funerals and other families visiting ANC at that time. Trump and you are disgusting they way you used these families as shields to justify this abhorrent behavior. -

Nobody is calling for any such thing. This is nothing more than fear mongering. -

Yes he could have. He was told before, when he arrived and during his visit to ANC to not take pictures and not use it as a campaign event. His group assaulted a woman to have their way. That is not in any way shape or form respectful. -

Deflection. Both are bad. One doesn't Excuse the other. -

He didn't quietly pay his respects, as evidenced by all the noise generated by it. The Hoover family isn't being respectful of other families, so I really don't respect their desire to use Arlington National Cemetery. If Trump doesn't benefit, why did he release the photos with music and make a political speech voiceover? I have no respect for anyone who hides behind these families like you are doing now. -

Well that is a whole lot of deflection to avoid a pretty basic topic, decency and respect at a cemetery. Apparently that doesn't matter and isn't real. You are truly disgusting. -

This is related to showing decency and respect at a cemetery how? -

You find showing expecting decency and respect at a cemetery funny? -

Why did he need to take pictures, especially after he had been told repeatedly not to do so? Why do you keep dodging this question? I have to disagree with denigrating the families, at least without more information. The families may not be in the best state of mind when losing a son or daughter. The emotions are just too high and raw. They certainly aren't considering the families of other Arlington National Cemetery service members. -

There is the deflection, as predicted. That won't end it. Trump's team was told that they could not take pictures or film in Section 60. There are reasons for this. Arlington Cemetery performs 27 funerals per day. For those who were not cremated, all the coffins end up getting buried in the same section side by side by side. As a result, it is impossible to perform all those funerals in the location where the burial will take place. The funerals are thus spread around to different sections of the cemetery with multiple ceremonies happening at the same time or overlapping in time. People are told at the end that this is not where their loved one will be buried but are given the plot number for future visits. Also, families may be visiting their loved ones in Section 60 and some level of solemnity, respect and privacy is expected. Whether or not the Gold Star families invited Trump really isn't relevant. It certainly shouldn't give him a free pass. While I am sorry for their loss, these families aren't thinking through the ramifications of holding a campaign event where funerals are happening. Those families are not respecting the families and loved ones of other deceased servicemen. Trump could have quietly paid his respects in Section 60 without cameras. he could have just paid his respects. But NOOOOO! Paying respect is not what this was about. Trump used this only for his benefit only. He used this for a photo op. He is using those servicemen and their families. Hiding behind the Gold Star families is even more pathetic. Have some decency. -
I don't think anyone would have thought anything about it if he hadn't gone. If he cared so much, why did he wait until ~ 2 months before an election? You think it is okay to disrupt ongoing funerals for this photo op?

Biden did meet the families. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/08/29/joe-biden-meets-families-13-service-members-killed-kabul-bombing/5641896001/ Trump's team was told that they could not take pictures or film in Section 60. And this is different from Fox's normal programming how?

People should follow RFK Jr.'s lead. They should harvest all natural road kill to feed their families. At worst you might have to deal with the occasional brain eating worm .
