  1. I am afraid to click the link. If it's like the Hoffman site I may be lost forever.
  2. Since you got me started on the Hoffman site, it has raised a few questions. Of the three threads I have partially read, one was thoughts on the White Album. I know you are a big fan. When you listened to it, was it CD or Vinyl? Fair number of posts are raving about the vinyl, although I know my ears could never tell the difference. Some are complaining that some of the tracks sound compressed, or over-compressed. I am not sure what they mean by that. Do you? Now I am off to read a 120 post topic on, "Psychotic Reaction."?
  3. The Steve Hoffman forums are looking really good. Thanks for the tip. I would "thank you" twice, if I could.
  4. I agree with this.
  5. Have you seen how heavy some of the major league pitchers are? I'm sure Met and Yankee fans can name one each. Yet you called that a sport. What about Pro Football linemen? Sumo wrestlers? Weight lifters? You can take any sport, by your definition, and turn it into an activity. Because you can ride a bicycle, doesn't mean the guys that ride in the Tour De France are not competing in a sport.
  6. Even in the land of Graybeards/Greybeards, that is weird.?
  7. Running is an activity, so what is track and distance racing. Ping Pong is a skill game/activity, but Baseball, a skill game, is sport. I think most things that involve competition and which drive your heart rate up, would be qualified as a sport.
  8. At the end of last year, there was a bill in NY that would allow you to remain anonymous. Cuomo veto'ed it. Here is one of many links. I thought it was reported at the time that he said winners could form an LLC, and it could take the winnings. I don't see how that guarantee's anonymity. https://nypost.com/2018/12/09/cuomo-vetoes-bill-allowing-lotto-winners-to-remain-anonymous/ Found another link https://nypost.com/2019/02/19/how-the-winners-of-new-york-lotterys-biggest-jackpot-were-able-to-stay-anonymous/
  9. If the main line was "One Josh Allen pass, over the line," the song would have lost its reefer connection and wouldn't have changed any of the meaning.
  10. It's a real shame George Carlin missed all this.
  11. The song was written by Jon Fogerty several years before Ike and Tina recorded it. I saw an interview of Fogerty with Dan Rather where he talks about writing the song. If you get cable, look for the AXS channel, as they replay interviews. It is channel 299 on Spectrum in Syracuse. Here is a link that is also interesting. It explains Ike and TIna's take on the song. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/creedence-clearwater-revival/proud-mary
  12. Changes the entire conversation. Keep this in mind when you hear governments are in negotiation about just about anything.
  13. You should upgrade your kicking game.
  14. I could write them, but I have no idea how anyone could correct them.
  15. Why don't you take a video of this and put it on one of the many places video's end up these days. I think I would find watching that interesting.
  16. About 10-15 years ago this happened to a dog at a small lake in our town. There was also a beach which they closed to swimming at the time. This lake is close to a farming area and part of the issue is the nitrates coming off the farms and running into the lake.
  17. This only happened this way because Trump is President. If Hillary was President he would have never have made it to jail.
  18. Thanks for the heads up, Sincethe70's. Since my original post I have done some searching and have come to the conclusion, MLB can say they don't juice the ball. That doesn't mean it's the same. I remember Pedro Martinez doing a pre-game during the Astro-Dodger World Series saying the ball didn't feel the same, it was harder and smaller. That series was a minor slugfest. All of a sudden some pretty good pitchers seemed to struggle. So, first, there is a tolerance on the how much the ball rebounds. The spec on the Coefficient of Restitution of a baseball is between 0.578 and 0.514. So I believe they are manufacturing the ball more consistently, but they are making it closer to the more bounce side of the tolerance. If manufacturing deviation is less, they can do this. Then, oddly enough, when someone wanted to make the earth spin faster to avoid an asteroid, it inspired me to do some searching on seams. I found a paper written in 2015 which concluded, the higher the seams, the more resistance, so the ball does not travel as far. Again, more consistent manufacturing means they could make the seams smaller, consistently. I don't know if there is a spec on seams but if I remember correctly, the seams max radius varied from 38mm to 36mm. The max seam height above the ball surface varied between 0,9 and 1.4mm. Their test results showed a 103 Meter to 118 Meter hit range, with the higher seams at the low end of travel distance and the lowest seams at the high end of travel distance. There is little mention of the bats, but I know I have heard repeatedly that maple is harder than ash. So I assume the maple bats have a higher Coefficient of Restitution. If the balls are traveling 3% further, that is the difference of about 10 feet more on a 330 ft HR. Take 10 feet off of all the Home Runs and I wonder how many don't make it. Since they have stats on everything, I would like so see one on how many feet all of this years HRs cleared the fence by. When I watch a game now, and I see a home run, I look to see if it has cleared by more than 10 feet. Here is the link to the paper on the seams. http://baseball.physics.illinois.edu/BaseballSeamHeightDistance.pdf One odd fact I came across, was they used to use different baseballs in minor leagues than they did in the majors. This changed about 2 years ago. The ball they used in the minors was cheaper. I can't remember the number, but I was amazed by the number of balls a minor league club could use in a year.
  19. Does anyone know what the ancient Roman's used to use urine for? I assume most don't know so think about it for a bit. Knowledge I gained from watching an old Canadian Series called "History Bites". I just googled "History Bites" and it turns out there are some on YouTube. If you have the right sense of humor, you should find entertaining.
  20. Thanks for the thought. According to the Spectrum TV guide, Syracuse has it on WSYR, channel 9 at 7PM. Looks like no pre-game.
