The 2nd level of this defense is a big issue. They used to be a strength of this football team but they are all becoming below average at a fast rate. They clearly aren’t going to dump Bernard but they need to upgrade Taron Johnson and Matt Milano next year with bigger, younger, faster players

By the way a 46 is not like a 5-2 or a 3-4 exactly. It’s basically a 6-2 but the 4 base lineman are shaded to the weakside of the formation and two LBs are on the strong side of the formation l. The MLB and the SS are the two players off the ball then a 3 person secondary

I’m not totally against it as a raise the floor type player who is in for certain packages. He’s regressing but how much of that is opportunity/quarterback vs aging I think your going to see Davis/Shavers/Palmer getting outside reps and Shakir/Coleman will get the slot snaps now that Kincaid is out

It’s an outdated system that worked years ago because teams were predominately in 21 personnel. Very rarely do you see teams in that personnel package anymore. In addition when the Bear front was successful the vast majority of the teams had statues of Quarterbacks and even the mobile ones aren’t like the ones you see today. This meant the likelihood of them getting past the Bear front and running was minimal. The best and really only time to use it is in goaline situations but typically teams have gameplan specific goaline personnel packages based on talent now. The only other time you could possibly run it is in 6 OL packages where you know it’s unlikely the eligible lineman is going out for a pass. 12 and 13 personnel maybe as well but new age TEs would carve that up
