Eric Wood/ Last Bills Oline drafted in 1st round/2009

it’s not what I think it’s what the Bills think. I’d draft a RT but I doubt the Bills are going to do it in round 1 -
Eric Wood/ Last Bills Oline drafted in 1st round/2009

The problem I see at 27 is unless a top guy drops like Skoronski, there isn't an IOL guy that is more worthy of the 27th pick vs a guy you can get in round 2-3. Now if we're talking tackle you could talk me into Darnell Wright or Dawand Jones at 27 I suppose but I don't see the Bills going tackle in round 1 -
The problem with IOL is the guys are all very similarly graded. Most of the depth is round 2-4. If they are going Oline it would have to be tackle and I’m not sure a good one will be left. After Addison showed up in the 170s and ran 4.55 he might drop to the Bills. I think I’d take that chance if he’s there. I think if Robinson is on the board it’s a no brainer.

Bingo. The Bills will be using Knox and a high pick more than 30% of the time if they go that route. Davis is also a good blocking WR and is excellent on play action passes(when he catches the ball)

Draft Capital, Cap Space, Restructure Capital - Bills have challenges.
gonzo1105 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
What? The worst teams have the most money say it ain’t so. I know it’s a broad stroke of the brush but the Bills can make the necessary moves to be competitive in Free Agency and a trade down or 2 during the draft gives us the capital we need -

Rodney Hudson is retiring I believe -
I stated it was double edged in a later post. I understand that. It really comes down to losing out on some free agents and getting a 2nd and maybe like a 5th for Edmunds and not getting top tier guys or letting him walk and get an end of 3rd rounder in compensatory form. We can restructure and maneuver some things because I think we’re going to be bargain bin shopping anyways vs going after top guys
-
You can also rescind the franchise tag on the player before mid July to open that cap space back up. It’s double edged tho as your tying up money at the beginning of FA
-
I would tag Edmunds and try to trade him for compensation. Other teams can knock that cap down with an extension

Is there any defensive player you'd be happy with at pick 27?
gonzo1105 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes I’m a big fan but less so at Mike than at Field LB. He’s a better player outside than Inside in my opinion. I think he’d be better in an attacking defense than a rush 4 drop 8 type defense like a Tampa 2 or the quarters defense the Bills were playing -
I always laugh because every time Jets brass is asked about Zach Wilson they always prop him up and always say something like we believe in Zach Wilson and his story is not over when it comes to a Jets uniform. Than every two weeks, they are trying to be in on a veteran QB like Carr or Rodgers. Just tell the kid he sucks and say we're gonna move on from you and trade you somewhere. You have no faith in him, and he thinks your full of crap so why keep the kid on the ledge.

I don't know if Elite will be there but I agree with the premise. The Bills need to draft the best guy they can at any position this year. I actually really like Trenton Simpson the LB at 27. He has explosive traits and production especially his sophomore year. He'd be a guy who has a reasonable chance to be there at 27, would fit the new supposedly aggressive mode that McDermott wants for his defense, and possesses traits that if he is coached up in the NFL could be a star. -

This is 100% true. In 2021 when Simpson was asked to be a LB in space because Baylor Spector was the MLB, Simpson had 65 Tackles, 12.5 TFL, 6 Sacks, 11 additional QB Pressures, and 3 passed broken up. Spector graduated and they moved Simpson inside. This year he had 72 tackles(expected playing MLB), 4 TFL, 2.5 Sacks, and 3 PD. His stat line dropped big time. Can't blame that on lack of talent up front as Clemson arguably had the 2nd or 3rd best DL in the country last year. He is a better player in space than he is in the box. His tape and stats prove that. Its not to say he can't play MLB but he is better suited to play outside and chase -
Tucker Kraft, not Tyler Kroft, he's a TE from South Dakota State.

I agree here but drafting Simpson would be a change in defensive philosophy. Simpson is not a MLB. He is jack of all trades LB. He lines up outside, in the slot, rushers the passer but is not an in the box fill the A gap type guy. He's more of a very valuable big Nickel type player to be honest. Campbell more fits the traditional MLB of today. -
The Bills wanted to change their philosophy last year which is why they signed OJ Howard then realized he was awful and went away from that. Howard was known as a good blocker and they were trying to unlock him in the passing game. I think they realized he didn't have the juice to be that guy. They want to be a 12 personnel team. Its in Dorseys past DNA, it fits the system Dorsey has run, that Daboll has run in the past with the Patriots, and the University of Miami had stud TE's. The problem with needing two TE's is you need both who can block and be able to stretch the seams. Most of the TE's in this class either fit one or the other. Kincaid and Musgrave are pure pass catchers, Washington is a great blocker but he is not a dynamic pass catcher despite his athletic numbers, Mayer, after his testing might not be either. I keep coming back to Tucker Kraft as that guy. Probably have to take him in round 2. He can block, he can stretch the field, he can work underneath, had really solid combine numbers.

IF the Bills did trade down, Who would you like?
gonzo1105 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall
You’re talking best case scenario though. Robinson isn’t likely there so it’s more like: Would your rather have something like a second tier WR/OL/DB/DE or trade and get an extra 3rd and an extra lottery pick. I don’t think anyone would argue that if Bijan Robinson or Peter Skoronski or Broderick Jones etc are there that you take them vs trading down but the realism there is the guys that the Bills have at a position of need aren’t going to be worth the 27th pick so why not add another lottery ticket -

Yes there are guys I could understand. If Brian Branch is there, if Trenton Simpson is there. There are some D-Ends that could be there that could be difference makers. I wouldn’t be displeased as long as it’s an explosive athlete that I feel can be a difference maker at the next level. -
I think you have to look at his circumstances. He had Covid year in 2020. He was off to an awesome start in 2021 before tearing his ACL and then this year is a recovery year as we know that you can get back on the field from an ACL tear but your really not back to normal normal until another year. I don't think he's Buffalo's type of Tight End. The Bills want an inline guy who can do both at an above average clip. I still think looking at all of the Tight Ends that Tucker Kraft is the best pure fit for the Bills. He can block and catch passes. He has a really good build and had good testing numbers. He has some explosiveness in the passing game. His knock is he played at the FCS level but being from the midwest at a small middle of nowhere school he also kind of fits the McDermott/Buffalo blue collar type player that the Bills covet.

Premium Centers like Schmitz tend to ride up draft boards the closer to the draft or gets. Wouldn’t surprise me if Schmitz goes in the last 10 picks of round 1 esp in a weak draft like this -

No thanks, his legs are shot -
I agree that blocking TEs are a no. To be fair there haven’t been many TEs to go in round 1. The ones who have haven’t been good you probably have to go back to Greg Olsen, Vernon Davis and Heath Miller as guys who fit your criteria and that’s 15 years ago. I think after testing the only guy who should be a first rounder is Dalton Kincaid and he didn’t work out at the combine. Luke Musgrave had a nice combine combine with production and pedigree could vault him up to the end of round 1. Mayer will be interesting now. His testing numbers were not great but his college production is obviously great. I think he slipped down the board some. TE Rankings for me: Kincaid Musgrave Laporta Kraft Mayer Washington
-
He's not anywhere near as athletic as people are portraying him to be at the TE position. I will be very surprised if Darnell Washington is a freak of nature TE in a couple of years. He will be a possession, good blocking TE in the NFL if that is worthy of a first round pick than so be it.

He has been a commentator for the ACC Network for the last couple of years

There are some guys, just the “better guys “ are the smaller ones. Production wise I love Xavier Hutchinson from Iowa State. A lot will depend on testing but can’t beat his college production
