Why Landon Jackson is the next MONSTER in the NFL
gonzo1105 replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yea I can’t say I watched him specifically as I was much more focused on the interior Dline but when I did notice him his stuff in college tape looked mighty similar to what I saw on Sunday. I think he’s gonna be a guy who pops during some games and then disappears during others at least early in his career. -
Yup I wonder if this is the case. Virgil showed enough and probably wants a crack at a 53 instead of the PS and knew his shot here was very slim . Wonder if they did him a solid

The Bills are doing everything in their power to never be chosen for Hard Knocks again because outside of highlighting player personalities the first two episodes have been a nothing burger and I say that as a Bills fan.

Story of Shemar Stewarts career, getting close to a Quarterback but never getting a sack. Also if the Bengals defense is getting the better of any offense then uh oh. I know they have some talent on their Dline but come on.
-
At first I was like of course they'd let him play vs the Chargers, Eagles, and Ravens in their first 4 weeks but then I looked at their whole schedule and thats a damn tough schedule especially with the improvements that the Chargers and Broncos particularly made and the Raiders always seems to give them trouble in 1/2 divisional games a year. Of course most of the tough games are at home though so we shall see.

I agree with you that to this point that Bishop has been disappointing mostly due to injury and not being able to overtake Hamlin last year as a rookie but a lot of that has to do with system. I hope he takes the leap as I was incredibly high on him coming out of the draft and believe that he has a great deal of potential. A future Bishop/Hancock tandem would be awesome for the next decade and makes a lot of sense in the SS/FS fit more than Rapp/Bishop. I think that might be the idea to be honest as Rapp is on an easily manageable contract after this year where the Bills would save close to 3.5 million while taking on only a 600,000 cap hit. As for Hairston I don't think anyone could make any opinion on his career to this point though its not great that he got hurt and will miss a lot of reps much like Bishop did last year. I think it is arguable whether Hairston should have been a first round pick. I think he should have been. He has the ability to play both man and zone coverage which is a very valuable trait to the Bills right now. Add in the fact that the Bills had to get extremely more athletic in their secondary and it led to Hairston being the pick with a big need to boot. Good news is they drafted Dorian Strong as well who has looked very solid as a rookie and they have Hancock and brought in quite a bit of insurance in White/Jackson. How good will they be, who knows but the Bills did protect themselves at least in the short team. -

I think it has more to do with they don’t want Hamlin/Hancock/Lewis on the field as much in preseason and want another guy to pair with Forrest late in the preseason games in addition to Bishop and Rapp being limited in games and practice- 77 replies

I totally get what you’re putting down but Beane has never invested heavily at Guard for better or worse. His biggest investment was Torrence with a 2nd round pick. It was also Carolina’s philosophy when he was there under their guys. The problem I see is that Torrence will be he’ll be 26-27, on a top of the line OL for the Bills, in a league desperate for good young offensive lineman , in a market that now overpays prime offensive guards. I just don’t see Beane going down that route when Kromer has been developing guys so well. Torrence is likely to get at least 15 mill AAV and that is on the low end he realistically might end up at 17 or 18 AAV -

Yea like I said earlier I think McGovern is now the priority. Edwards and Torrence are the two based on historical philosophy that are going to be replaced. Good news is the Bills look like they have some young capable lineman to fill in the gaps or the draft capital to add to the interior OL in the next couple of drafts -

Even LaPorta , while still solid last year, came back to reality some last year -

The next priority on this team is McGovern. I don’t understand why people don’t believe it can be done. Knox has a 17 mill cap hit. They aren’t going to stay at that number. Knox is getting released or taking a big pay cut. Like in the 6-7 million range or we save 9 on cutting him. Samuel is not going to be here next year and that’s another 6.5. That’s 13 million without any restructures or other cuts etc. There is money for McGovern if they want to get it done. It’s Edwards who I think is gone but one of the 2 will be back next year -

Yea I’ve always been on the fence with Torrence. I think he’s the type of player that will get too big of a contract when he hits the open market so if the Bills want him they’ll have to extend him early but I don’t know if he warrants that attention yet. The Guard market has started booming mostly due to the lack of good blockers in general in the NFL. I think you’ll see the Bills use a draft pick in the 3rd or 4th round next year on a IOL guy next year. If you look at the Beane philosophy/Panthers they paid their centers and tackles first before guards If you also look at the contracts on OTC or Spotrac, the 2026 year is a good year for the Bills to get out of a lot of their heavier contracts -

I mean I get what you’re saying but the Bills have set themselves up for long term success on the offensive line. Their two tackles are locked in on long term deals. I think the next thing on Beanes to do list is McGovern and now can utilize the franchise tag on him if necessary. I think they let David Edwards walk after the season but have Alec Anderson ready to go on a cheap deal for either Exwards or McGovern and Grable can either be the primary swing tackle with the capability of him moving inside or pushing Dawkins inside as he ages. That doesn’t include Lundt who while early, looked impressive in his first action and Sedrick Van Pran who has been a bit of an afterthought because he’s been injured this preseason. As long as Kromer is here developing these mid to late round guys I don’t have a lot of worry about the OL especially with Allen behind Center -

Yup 12 million was about right for his talent level and market. Usually Beane likes to get a bit of a discount but didn’t hear. It’s a good deal for both sides -
My Post Week 1 53 Roster would be: QB: Josh Allen, Mitch Trubisky (2) RB: James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson (3) FB: Reggie Gilliam (1) WR: Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Josh Palmer, Curtis Samuel, Elijah Moore, Tyrell Shavers (6) TE: Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid, Jackson Hawes (3) OL: Dion Dawkins, David Edwards, Connor McGovern, O'Cyrus Torrence, Spencer Brown, Alec Anderson, Tylan Grable, Ryan Van DeMark, Chase Lundt (9) DE: Joey Bosa, Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, Javon Solomon, Landon Jackson (5) DT: Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, T.J. Sanders, Deone Walker, DeWayne Carter (5) LB: Matt Milano, Terrell Bernard, Dorian Williams, Joe Andreessen, Shaq Thompson (5) CB: Christian Benford, Max Hairston, Tre White, Dorian Strong, Taron Johnson, Brandon Codrington (6) S: Cole Bishop, Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, Jordan Hancock, Cam Lewis (5) K: Bass (1) P: Robbins (1) LS: Ferguson (1) Season Ending IR: Sedrick Van Pran Suspension: Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi - I think it would just be easy to stash Van Pran on season ending IR and give him that extra year without having to use a roster spot on him. I think this is why they signed Dan Feeney to be the Will Clapp of this year to be the guy to go from the Practice Squad to the 53 when needed. If Van Pran is ready to go, I think that makes RVD a possibly trade candidate at cut down time. - I think when Hoecht and Ogunjobi come off of the Suspended list that there is a real possibility you see A.J Epenesa traded, and DaQuan Jones being released or coming down with an injury that essentially ends his football season. - My last guys to make the roster was Elijah Moore, Tyrell Shavers, and Shaq Thompson. I see Thompson as another option to be a guy who gets cut but lands on the Practice Squad as an insurance policy. I just dont know who right now would be that 5th LB. Need to see more before I move Thompson off this roster. I think as of right now both Moore and Shavers would make the team but I don't think either is a lock right now.

I think things need to be looked at both ways. Cook realizes he’s a big part of the Bills offense and he is a big part of it. He also needs to realize that his role and schematic fit are also a big part of his success. I think the 11-12 million dollar AAV is fair for Cook. He’s a really good player in a really good situation for him. Is the extra 3 million over 3 years worth it to him to have less success? Only his people know that and Beane

Yea, I said this about 3 times in the game thread as people were up in arms about things and I'm like the first game especially is essentially roll the ball out on the field and just play with the basic install and let players play with their instincts. Throw in the fact that most of the starters play only a handful of snaps and you get a mess of a ball game. I take nothing from the game except for how did individuals perform at the middle and bottom of the roster.
-
If Lundt is good enough to make the team, then they are going to trade VandeMark. They had RVD at RT yesterday because that is his weak spot and I would say he held up only okay there. He is much more natural at Left Tackle but its extremely hard to make a team year after year when you can only play 1 out of 5 OL Positions. If Lundt can play both he'll make the team and RVD will be traded for another team that is desperate for O line help.

Arrow Up: Chase Lundt- Thought he looked really solid in pass protection especially Jordan Hancock: Hancock looked like a guy who could contribute this year. Picked called back and was around the ball making plays in the run game Tyrell Shavers: Making a run at the 53 man roster. Caught the long bomb and got good separation on the slant. Throw in his STs play and he’s got a good shot to make it Deone Walker: Wasn't a huge fan of the pick but I’ll admit today he looked agile and made some plays Arrow Down: Tre White: Love Tre but he was rough today. No gameplan but he got toasted on the quick stuff today. Could just be a case of off coverage Mike White: I thought he was highly inaccurate today and Trubisky separated himself in the backup race. Jacob Bayer: Game in the balance, and you snap the ball 10 yards over the QBs head Eddie Ulofoshio: He’s in year 2 and he still looked completely lost out there. Might make the team but Special teams only

Woof well your fired lol. I was just thinking how Caden Davis the new kicker might be crapping his pants if it came down to a GW and then the Center did that. -

Dart has been pretty good early on. Yes he made a great throw there but I'm more impressed by the Bills getting pressure on him and him hanging in there and going through his progressions instead of panicking and taking off running.
