Jim Kelly at RWS Parking Lot Pre-Game?
RalphOP83 replied to Kettle Creek Football's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every wk between the field house and the tunnel at his RV -
Your argument makes ZERO sense. In your position of "power" you've fired "many employees" for far less egregious things furthers the idea that he was told not to come back, after he lashed out against lord Gregg and his minions. Until you've spoken to either side regarding the situation you have no place to say what went on inside those meeting rooms, or that locker room. The man that ran the team at that time has since been thrown out of the NFL...blackballed essentially. Would it surprise you to hear that there was some funny business going on at One Bills Drive during those days. You say no excuse for such unprofessional behavior, but the guy kept his mouth shut and never aired the mess that was going on behind closed doors. He was not getting pinched for pot, beating his wife, driving drunk etc. Unprofessional for getting pissed at a weak link that was dragging a team down. Its amazing that some fans would applaud a player that smacks around a rookie that is dragging the team down, but if a player speaks up against an inexperienced coach that seems completely inept it is "unprofessional." Does it make sense to you that Ruben would quit the Bills, and burn that bridge only to have Ralph/Russ Brandon invite him back week in and week out for appearances as Buffalo Bills Ambassador, honored with the ralph wilson distinguished service award, led the charge out of the tunnel last yr at a home game, was even cited by the buffalo news for being in the tunnel hugging players after the home win against the pats. He's even got a box at the Ralph, and attends every home game. Sounds like he quit and went out with a bang huh...or maybe the bills admitting their mistakes.

2nd most pro bowls by a buffalo bills player EVER...second only to #78
-
I've always wondered why teams dont bring in ex players more often. They have insight and can teach the young guys the tips and tricks they learned throught their years playing. Especially since many times the coaching staffs consist of guys that played a few years on the pine in college or a 1-2 yr NFL vet. For example, our O-line coach played 4 years at western carolina. Don't you think a guy like Ruben who played with and against the best could give a few tidbits of info? Besides I feel as though the players might respect a coach that has played in the league.
-
Exactly. All pro selections (4) are made by the ppl that get paid to watch football. Back in the day, pro bowl selections (9) were made by opponents. Oh ya and played in a super bowl right when he left the bills. Lots of armchair experts on these forums.

Just thought I'd throw it out there...Ruben Brown was asked by wannstedt to come work camp, presumably to help out with the offensive and defensive linemen.
-
The owner made him a huge vodka soda splash of cran in an oversized martini or champagne glass as a joke. I tend bar at encore...a bunch of the linemen were there that night. Many of the players come there to party, and in fact the linemen were partying with the sabres that night. They come there and mind their own business, and hang with the good looking girls that frequent. On side note....chad rinehart is an absolute monster. Made the other guys look small. Looks like a big old country boy.

what is the big tree inn like?
RalphOP83 replied to MARCELL DAREUS POWER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've worked at the big tree for 6 years and never heard these complaints. Go to duffs and have bad wings and bad service. The bartenders at Duff's are notoriously terrible, and have that reputation all around town. Certainly you have to take into consideration that you were likely at the bar on a bills home game weekend. We have people that rave about the bar, and come back year in and year out because we show them a fantastic time. People from around the world I must add. Come back in this season for another try, I assure you that we will show you a fantastic time! -
what is the big tree inn like?
RalphOP83 replied to MARCELL DAREUS POWER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sitting in the tree right now waiting to open up... My (biased) description... Good comfortable sports bar with good food... Good party after the games usually some surprise visitors... A lot of history... I have stories many would never believe -
QB's coach told my brother if cousins was available at round 4 he was theirs

Draft a quarterback every year! Quarterbacks are typically long term projects that develop over the years....many greats were mid or late round picks. They pay off big if they develop well....especIally a kid as smart as Wilson. It really pays off to have another smart set of eyes on the sidelines also... How many back up or mid grade QB's become coordinators, head coaches, or QB coaches... If ur gonna have a back up, make him an intelligent, interested, eager guy with a ton of upside... Not some idiot athlete that only has physical tools (Vince young, Tebow, etc)

Nike uniform unveiling discussion
RalphOP83 replied to Wayne Cubed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
pro combat is not just a material its the cut and design of the tailoring, it also has to do with the venting, and elasticity -
Here's story for ya....last time anthony hargrove came in the big tree (he stopped in regularly) his credit card got declined so I had to comp his 3 jager bombs and 2 beers....$15 I tend to not post anything i hear from players or anyone else b/c I have friendships with them and gained trust...many times they are out of the loop on player transactions etc.
-
Yes big tree inn.. I grew up tending bar there until my move down to Florida. My brother has been tending there for about 10 years. I still pick up some shifts while home on break... Good place to pick up some inside info. We get coaches and players in pretty regularly... I have some great stories...

Stroud was in buffalo about 2 weeks back no lie. My brother mentioned he stopped in for wings (he always stops @ this bar for wings when in buffalo and came in after every game while playing for the bills) and I didn't think anything of it til I saw he was considering a comeback.

No reservations of note @ Tempo or Hutch's this evening....just thought I'd throw is in here -
I was talking to Ruben Brown about this a few days back. He said its all about winning. When he was drafted other players were jealous of him being drafted by the bills.

Ive spent a lot of time downtown buffalo... Managed 2 bars down there at one point. Here's my 2 cents: Those of you saying stay off of chippewa on a Sunday clearly don't hang out downtown much... It will be a ghost town on chipp on a sun night. If you are just looking to grab a beer with a friend, chill, eat, watch some football: - Bada Bing: good sports bar, good food, good tvs If you are looking to see some women later in the evening: -snooty fox : gets busy on a sun night... All of the "industry people" head there on sun nights... Dj etc. just a couple blocks up Delaware from your hotel Looking for some pretty good food, good draft collection... Place that'll be a bit busier than Bada bing: -Colter Bay: more of a neighborhood Also a few good places in Allentown that have been mentioned..... Also soho burger bar on chip may be open sun nights

Merriman and Stevie having a good time
RalphOP83 replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every player I talk to from the 90's super bowl era teams says its the team chemistry that was a part of what made them great. (I bar tended at the big tree for about the last 7 yrs) They did things together outside of the stadium. They wanted to win for each other. They were friends and teammates. They held each other accountable. -
Lee Evans playing well in Baltimore
RalphOP83 replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Lee Evans move was a move that reflects the character of our franchise. Cost cutting was the only reasoning behind getting rid of Lee...yet they pay him a million dollar bonus before getting rid of him. Nothing about the move makes our team better...typical Buffalo Bills. Teammates' responses are very telling as to his value to the team... -
Lee did not request a trade I am %100 positive of this. He heard the rumors but was as surprised as anyone when it actually happened. Furthermore had I not had first hand info of the situation if you look at it as an outsider what sense would it make? The team pays him $1.5 mil then just grants his trade? Then rather than explaining the unpopular (both with fans and in the locker room) move and/or forcing lees hand, they just grant his request? Think about this... the bill have every reason to make him look like the bad guy or at least explain this to the team/fans. They would have no reason to keep this guarded.
