That's an interesting idea - a poison-pill lease. Anybody know anything about the legality of it?

Stinking businessmen ruining the league
finknottle replied to Adam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So... your link shows that other regions have paid as much as $452 million in subsidies, with an average around $230 million. Only two cities kicked in less ($60 million) than WNY ($63 million). And you're ticked off because he didn't pay any of his own money? Would you be happier if he demanded a $200 million renovation and volunteered to kick in 25%? Or how about Cincy's deal, with subsidies accounting for 100% of the $452 million dollar stadium? I think your rebuttal actually puts RW is a pretty good light. -
Our draft picks don't have a very good shelf life.
finknottle replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm right up there with bashing TD, but I don't think that is so bad given that nowadays it is the norm for successfull draftee's to start and then leave as free agents. -
I predict all those #-holes who kept going on about how RW is holding the team back will have an online celebratory lovefest for about the time it takes for new ownership to move the team... then crickets, I guess.

Operating Income - Where Do The Bills Rank..
finknottle replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True. But it is based in large part on the Bills having a lower percentage of debt than most teams. So - if the Bills need better facilities to compete for free agents and coaches, and it comes out of their pocket, their profitibility disappears. That's the message here: with a low revenue base, you are basically saying that in order to stay profitible you can't invest. We've heard more than our share of complaints about RW not paying coaches. So what happens if, like the Redskins, you bump the HC compensation up 2 mill, and the OC and DC up 1 million say. That move alone pushes us into the lower half . -

JP looked rough last night on the Telethon
finknottle replied to Billsjunkie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually he was 5' 6.5", which was above average for French men back then. He was the victim of the same sort of hyperbole that turns Flutie into a midget and Parrish too frail to take a hit... -
Good thing we don't make those decisions then, because that's true of everybody on the roster including camp fodder qb's.

And if last season was indicative of what we can expect in the future, and we tie up alot of money in him, do you realize what that will cost us cap-wise down the road? My vote for most ridiculous thread this year. Top runningbacks are easier to come by than any other position, and they have shorter careers. Frankly, I bet we part ways after two more years, and the Bills faithfull will be busy gushing over their latest new speedster.

We are Kings of the Overreactors
finknottle replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is this now, or from before he was drafted? Regardless of what we think of him, I find it hard to believe that there is any team out there coveting him based on this season... -
I agree with your basic point, but have to add that he cannot put any conditions on the franchise after he is dead - can't put that sort of thing in a will.

People hate the JPL Rumor for One Reason
finknottle replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're joking, but it brings up an interesting point: All first rounders are a gamble. But there is a difference between a QB and, say, an OL. If a QB turns out to be subpar you can't play him, so you might as well dump him. If a lineman is subpar, you can usually still find a spot for him to make a contribution while he's under contract. So to me, it just means don't draft a qb. -
Proven? It would be more believable if the Bills weren't coming off a winning season under Bledsoe. So what would it take to 'prove' to you that JP is or isn't the answer? If DB taking over a 3-13 team and going 8-8, 6-10, and 9-7 proves to you he can't win, where are you putting the bar for JP?

Losman - This has to be said...
finknottle replied to NJ_BillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two points: 1. A lot of people assume that just because you give a guy time, that he will work out, he just needs time starting. The higher the pick, the stronger the belief. 2. It's not about how long we the fans needs to determine whether a player can do it. It's about how long the coaches need. -
You are far more likely to be injured by safeties, CB and linebackers tackling you than linemen! The former are generally high-speed impact collisions, while linemen more often grab and wrestle you down from a upright rush.
-
I agree that it's it 'it' factor that counts, not stats. IMO I havn't seen it from JP, so I'm disappointed but willing to give him more time. But not too much more - you can't hold the franchise hostage.

To all who say 7 games isn't enough to judge JP
finknottle replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference is that they occasionally showed you something special in between the bad plays. I havn't seen it from JP. -

finknottle replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't even care that much about his level of play (although in his third season I suppose I should start). What I want to see is flashes of brilliance between the bone-headed mistakes; that's what you look for in a rookie qb. I havn't seen it at all. -

So let me get this straight - we've never seen production from a guy, but he's never had a solid team around him. Therefore we can't consider cutting him until he's had a few years starting on a good team. Where do I sign up as a Buffalo Bills QB? -
ESPN NEWS reports Owens has signed
finknottle replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I heard the news on national radio, I was surprised to hear their take on it: Bledsoe was one of the few qb's with the toughness to stand up to TO and keep him in his place. I never thought of him that way, but in hindsight I suppose it could be true. He was no Jim Kelly, but he wasn't afraid to get in the receivers face after a bad play. He certainly didn't shy away from Keyshawn last season, so maybe recognition of that was a part of Parcells decision. -
Bears DE Idonije signs offer sheet with Bills

That is why Clayton is an analyst and not an anchorman. He is paid to give us his views on what is going on and what will happen, based on his insight and experience. In particular, the value he brings is the ability to read between the lines and tell us about what isn't being said. Otherwise, he would just be reading the teleprompter. (Whether his ability is actually worth anything is a seperate question.) -
Could JP Losman be on his way out?
finknottle replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree half-way. It is a crap shoot, and most fail. That said, I see no reason to assume Leinhart or Young would fail too... One just doesn't know, and I'd be very nervous about spending yet more pics at those odds. -
drafting Parrish or releasing P.Williams
finknottle replied to Hardy Pyle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the grand scheme of bad roster moves in the TD era, I hardly think drafting Parrish stands out as a bust. It's still too early to tell, but he looks ok so far - the only real crime was picking him over all our other needs.
