  1. Oh really, and how would you know that? How did the Bills know that Pittsburgh was targeting Ryan Denney? I don't recall that being in the media, but THEY knew. You are awefully presumptious about things for which you have no personal knowledge! Or are you employed by an NFL team?
  2. Just because the media wasn't reporting someone targeting him doesn't meean that there weren't. Even Kuyper admitted that there were personnel people out there that really liked him alot. I think it is a silly preumption that just because the media wasn't reporting late first or early second round interest by specific teams that it wan't happening under the radar. Because with that assumpttion then requires that Bills are simply buffoons who panicked to jump ahead for no good reason. I see no reason for that assumption whatsoever.
  3. My point is that maybe the Bills KNEW! I mean, based on what info, the media?? Teams are constantly blowing smoke to the media to throw them off in an attempt to throw other teams off. Do you not think that the Bills have sources to know what teams interviewed McCargo, let alone who might be targeting him? And if there isn't enough info to make an educated guess, why the presumption that it was a mistake in the first place? LOL! I mean, why the presumption that the Bills panicked to "get their guy" as opposed to the fact that they good ointelligence that he wouldn't make it past the first round or early second?
  4. Do you know he was going to be?
  5. Overpaid according to whom? Had they realized that he was that good notwithstanding everyone else's assessment, it would have made them smart. The only issue then becomes, how long to wait given that your assumption is that no one else sees what you see. It certainly isn't because you failed to undervalue him like everyone else. The issue with any player, is whether the value assessment is accurate. If the Bills give McCargo a late first round draft grade, and he turns out to play at that level or better, the only complaint you can have is that they should have waited to get him as a steal because no one else gave him a high grade and thus they could have had him cheaper. Only thing is, you have no idea whether another team ahead of the Bills also graded him that high, and I would assume that the Bills had some intelligence that another team was targeting him as well. Do you really think that had the Bills thought he would have been there at their #2 that they would have traded picks to move up?
  6. Gee, Are you a psychic? I guess you must be if you KNOW that he would have still been there! Oh wait, Kuyper said he would so of course he would have been! LOL! Do you not think that the Bills don't know what other teams might have been targeting McCargo? I believe their intelligence is probably much better than the media's. But the fact is, you have no basis for making this statement within the scope of your own personal knowledge.
  7. Gee, Maybe not if the guy you want will be gone by the time they pick after trading back, huh?
  8. Did you think that either one of those alone would have been enough to get a first round pick? Usually you need to give up more than one lesser pick to get greater pick. Of course, if you can get a team to trade you a second for a first, than by all means do it! Also, for all you people making the statement that we could have had either of these guys later than what we got them are pissing in the wind. How could you possibly know that? Do you not think that people don't have much better inside info as to what other teams are doing than you? Just because numnuts Kuyper for ESPN thinks a guy has gone early is frankly irrelevant. He is not a coach, he is not in the loop as to what is going down in various war rooms. He has made a living convincing the public that he is an expert but he is nothing more than a media guy. Lot's of teams have been successful drafting guys that the talking heads thought at the time were reaches. Why should it be presumed that if Marv, et al. ain't drafting the guys the media experts have projected that they are making a mistake?
  9. He also said that not one of the top three QBs warranted a first round grade, except MAYBE Leinart at the end of the first round. I assumed that had to be ESPN's script for creating controversy, but it was so outrageous the other guys on the show sort of blew him off like he didn't really just say that.
  10. It seems that report was inaccurate, as all of the articles I've read recently said it was a cornea problem, not a retina problem. Apparently, they were concerned about him being poked in the eye (which is why he wore a visor in Atlanta) because the cornea was not healed. If it had been a retina problem, he'd be retired if not operable. In any event, apparently it did not impair his vision, but it was risky for him to play because a poke in the eye could have blinded him due to the damage the cornea was prone to suffer from such a trauma. I doubt Dallas or we now would have signed were he blind in one eye. Hopefully, the cornea has healed by now and he is no longer prone to being blinded in that eye.
  11. Totally agree! He was a very effective #2. He's now been taken down several pegs and he knows he's going to have to win back the fans' support. And if he doesn't, he gets cut. NBD! On the other hand, if he earns a spot, fantastic!
  12. BTW, who's the blind epileptic squirrel?
  13. Hey, at least he knows what irony is and how to use it appropriately in a sentence!
  14. Yikes! This sure is interesting.
  15. Ahhh, thank you! If Nate is the team's best player (and I'm really not debating that at the moment), that is truly sad indeed. The guy gets burned constantly, and I think because he likes to dare QBs to throw at him because he wants to make picks, even if that means giving up more TDs than he scores. Remember Jacksonville two years ago? My feeling is the guy will not produce once he gets his big fat signing bonus, and so if we can get a first rounder for him, I would do it in a heartbeat. I am totally opposed to paying this guy what he wants.
  16. If the Bills move and win a Super Bowl, I wouldn't even know it. I am with Corp000085. I would never watch another NFL game if the Bills move. It will be college only for me after that. And nice crack about the Clippers above as well! The NBA has been dead to me for years. To this day, if I ever meet John Y Brown in person, I would beat him to within an inch of his life.
  17. It sounds to me like Houston, the Texans, Moulds, and his personal assistant are all trying to bully Marv and the Bills. These people have been saying for days now that it is a done deal, but it was only done as far as Moulds his people and the Texans are concerned. I also love how the Houston Chronicle article today suggests that if the Bills don't take the 5th rounder from Houston, they risk losing Moulds with zero comp. Total BS! There is no risk to the Bills except they may have a well-paid and disgruntled receiver on their hands, Reality check Houston: EM is under contract for the next two years, and while it may be at a rate that is a bit too tall, we are not risking losing him for nothing if we don't take your 5th rounder! And just because EM says (through his personal assistant) that he'll never play for the Bills again, you can damn well bet he will if it means not collecting $6.1 Million. And even if the Bills feel compelled to release him at some point, they don't have to do it right now. Dig in them heels Marv and don't let Houston and Moulds' people stampede ya!
  18. That's cause we both hail from Houston, brother! Or are you in SA now? Either way, Bills fans in Texas!
  19. The article in the Chronicle says he will get a $5 Million signing bonus. That leaves $9 Million to be distributed as salary over the four years. His first year year salary will probably be in the neighborhood of $1 Million, which means he will earn roughly the same this year as he was scheduled to make with the Bills just in salary. Then he'll probably get $2.5 to $3 Million per for the next three years to cover the other $8 Million, which he was scheduled to make next year but he almost certainly would never have seen. What it does is ensures him that he will be compensated this year just as he would have been had he stayed a Bill, and the chance to earn the rest of his Bill's contract (and then some) over the next three years because his cap hit won't ever get huge over the life of the contract. Also, there may very well be incentives built in that could push the deal higher in the subsequent 3 years that are not being publicized. Like roster bonuses, making the pro bowl (which he has not done in some time) and games played, catches and yardage, etc.
  20. Relax! It's all part of the game!
  21. This guy may be just a zit-faced geek, and it is true that a flat comparison of stats doesn't always support a point in reality even though they may seem to on the surface, but I agree generally with the point of the article. The kid had his moments, was not given the commitment that he should have been given to develop last year due to the whinings of selfish teammates and weakness of the head coach. I also agree that while Holcomb had some good outings, overall he did not perform that much better than JP, especially given the huge difference in their respective years of experience. And finally, I find the close parallels between the beginning of both JP's and Brett's careers rather disconcerting and it would be a gaffe of unbelievable proportions if JP is sent packing before he gets a fair shot at showing what he can become and he turns out to be another Favre with a different team. Levy needs to concentrate on improving the surrounding cast as much as he can, especially with this draft and a few more FA's along the way. He then needs to have enough patience to stay the course and let JP develop sufficently to find out.
  22. Seems like there a lot of people here who would like to see us play the role of the Atlanta Falcons to complete the comparison to Favre and his career!
  23. Yeah, how much vision, leadership and poise did Brett Favre and Steve Young show before their respective first teams let them go in their first couple of seasons in the league? Short-sightedness and the need to see immediate success can come back to bite a team in the ass. Just ask the Buccaneers and Flacons.
  24. Not true at all. We do NOT have to get rid of Eric. If he refuses to play, he only hurts himself for the future. It simply is not in his best interests to follow up on any threat not to play if he doesn't get traded. And, we don't have to get rid of him for cap reasons either. While it is a benefit if he does go, it is not a necessity. This threat of never playing for the Bills again is nothing more than agent posturing. Any attempt to actually use that threat will be extremely detrimental to Eric and is simpy not a real option. Moreover, do you think Moulds wants to wait until July to get cut? After which at least one if not more of these teams now interested have lost interest and have gone elsewhere or made other plans? Furthermore, if you have more than one team seriously interested in landing his services, THEY do NOT hold all of the cards either! Why would a team that really wants him not give up a good pick to be sure that none of the other interested teams get him first? If we were to cut Eric, he can only play for one of those teams. Then it becomes a bidding war or it permits other factors besides money to enter in. By trading a pick, one of those teams ensures that they get him. How is that a situation in which THEY hold all of the cards? Of course, there is going to be a limit in terms of what these teams are willing to give up to get Eric, but they are indeed in competition with one another, which forces them to play their hand. How do you think we squeezed a draft pick for Henry, another guy who said he would not play for the Bills again? Because more than one team wanted him, that's why! The bottom line here is that while the Bills will not get a top pick, they will be reasonably compensated. While it would be best for all concerned to dump his complaining ass at this point, it is not an absolute must for the Bills. In fact, it is the Bills that have the most leverage here in this poker game. All they need is the patience to play out the hand. Say what you will about Donahoe, but he was a heckuva player in these matters. Let's hope Marv is equally up to it.
