Rd 3, Pick #78: WR Marquise Goodwin - Texas
BuffaloBob replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy spent his springs running track instead of practicing football. He placed like 10th at the 2012 Olympics in the long jump. He is going to contribute immediately on special teams as a gunner and as a returner. He also won an award at Texas for blocking. He is a tough kid and quite durable for his size. I think Marrone and Hackett are going to find lot's of ways to use that speed. -
Live NFL Draft 2013 draft thread
BuffaloBob replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The biggest irony of this draft: ESPN gives us an F grade for drafting EJ, but had we drafted Nassib or Barkley instead, they would have probably given us at least a B. This even though those guys are STILL on the board for the fourth round. LOL! Yeah, no one else wanted them on day one or two, but hey, those are the guys THEY rated higher! -
Bills Head Coach Search - Updates Only
BuffaloBob replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just saw this update from ABC Sports. http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/browns-waiting-meet-time-kelly-18141787 It appears that there is more than meets they eye here regarding bad blood between the Bowns and Eagles. Of note is that the Bills are not being mentioned as still being in the mix. -

Fitz's INT broken down from game film
BuffaloBob replied to jonramz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone else hear appreciating the irony of all of these armchair QB's dissecting and debating the correct read over the course of hours, after reviewing the play several times from a rather more easy view, when Fitz had about 3-4 seconds to do the same with huge lineman trying to tear his head off? I know, that's what he's paid to do, etc. ect. But I still find it funny if not ironic. -
No. this^^^^^^^ I thought the network coverage was terrible, as I never saw a really good angle on it. BUT, if the ball is moving forward, there must have been some forward momentum imparted by the hand and the throwing motion of the arm to the ball BEFORE it left his hand. At the very least, I cannot understand how, in that case, there could possibly be irrefutable evidence that it was in fact fumbled before his throwing motion was applied, which would be NECESSARY by rule to overturn the call. We were fortunate that all it cost us was a shot at three points. Yeah, but nobody hit him.

Does this mean Easley is now a DB to complete the analogical construct?

Especially when it starts to get cold! -
Thank you! Vince was running for his life after 1 mississippi on most plays. Then there were so many penalties on top of that. DAvid Snow and Sam Young each had at least one hold and a false start each. Not that the line was much better for Thigpen. Frankly, I thought our number 1 o-line (missing Wood and Pears notwithstanding) was not very impressive either. Team needs to get busy!

I don't think he was praising the plays as much as he was praising his apparent explosiveness and quickness off of the ball, and his achoring against the run, which is more related to his health. But then again, THAT could be moronic as well.

I'm holding out for the classic Cinderella/Fairytale story that the Bills somehow manage to stay really healthy for the first time in about 10 years, and they find some way to go all the way for Ralph before he passes. It would be a fitting ending to Ralph's life, and might even make up for losing four straight all those years ago. -
I was at that game. Believe me, I'm right with ya on that!

How many fans remember this game in 1969
BuffaloBob replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I too was there at this game! I was 11, my brother 10 and my Dad, rest his soul, was so young at 33! I remember we had garbage bags to keep the snow out, but they didn't help much! LOL! My eyes stung from the snow hitting them so persistently all afternoon. We were literally right at yard line where Edgerson stole the ball. I remember the play seemed to take forever, and the WR's and the DB's were just running around and you couldn't even tell who was on which team. Edgerson kind of stood at the outside, just off the line, and somehow I felt like I knew what he was thinking. Suddenly, he started running in and I'm so excited that I can't yell or scream or anything, and I'm tugging on my Dad's sleeve and pointing out at Edgerson, trying to get him to look as it transpired. I watched as Edgerson just simply lifted the ball out of Cook's hand and ran into the end zone. The Ref didn't see him do it, and there's Edgerson jumping up and down in the end zone, Cook without the ball looking at Edgerson with half disbelief and half disgust, the bewildered Ref standing between Cook and the end zone trying to figure out how in the hell Edgerson ended up with it. I remember the Ref running up to him to get an explanation. Seemed like it took at least a couple of minutes while I watched Edgerson acting out what had happened before he just shrugged and put his hands up to signal the TD. Nobody around me had even seen it and I was telling everybody around us what had just happened. It brings tears to my eyes typing this story. My Dad's been gone now for over six years but I remember this day just like it was yesterday, and the way he looked at me as I told him what had happened and how proud I was that I saw it. Take me back........................ -
I know what you're going through. I lost mine about 6 years ago. Thanks for sharing the covers for the programs. How cool is that?!

ROTFLMAO! You could have also said, go turn on your radio and listen to Rush, too. Just as good! Somehow I don't think the result would have been quite the same if it had been Gronk, though. -
THE BAD NEWS about FRED from Bull and Schlep
BuffaloBob replied to shoretalk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, you seemed to insist that he love football and the Bills in order to be qualified to cover them. That sort of sounds like a homer. And BTW he never said he DISLIKED football. He's just not as passionate about as he is hockey. Once again, so what? Didn't know he grew up in Grand Island, but I guess I know a lot of Buffalonians who couldn't care less about the Bills, so not a shock. I KNOW that he's smarter just based on the conversations. Many of the points he makes are over the heads of the idiots who call in and argue with him. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to detect that. And I also have heard many times that when callers have something nuanced to say, he gives them credit for that. Anyway, so you don't like him. That's cool. Just don't listen to him. It's all good. -
Like another present-day QB, currently playing for the Jests, whose legend is somewhat unjustifed. I once did an analysis of the stats for the year of Homerun Throwback and if I recall, the Bills offense under Flutie scored something like 13 points per game average for the season. What got the Bills to the playoffs was the Number 1 or 2 (forget) ranked defense in the NFL, that not only held opponents to like 10 points a game offensively, but often scored TDs as well. By that season, teams had figured out that to neutralize Dougie, they merely had to maintain rush lanes, get their hands up, and take away his scrambling opportunities. Plus, a LB assigned to spy on him in case he did escape. This also helped make our O-line look better than it was.

Peter King on Florence's release

I liked Drayton. He was a good Bill and made some exciting plays. But unfortunately, it was time to upgrade the position. -
This! I have a BS in Biomedical Engineering and a Law degree and I highly doubt I could get a pass off to anyone in the time it takes to do so with 300 pound behemoths who can run way faster than me trying to affect the head. Kill the head and the body will die. Oops. Don't bother guys, he already pissed and crapped himself and dropped the ball!

THE BAD NEWS about FRED from Bull and Schlep
BuffaloBob replied to shoretalk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well first of all, I disagree that he NEEDS to be a homer in order to be a sports personality in this town. We have plenty of the them anyway. And I also disagree that he couldn't have a job somewhere else if he for example admitted he was a big Penguins fan and wasn't as crazy about football. SO WHAT? I'm not a big NBA fan and if Buffalo had an NBA team I would certainly want them to do well and would be proud if they did, but I would be far more interested in Hockey and Football. Another newsflash, most radio personalities don't grow up in the towns they end up working in. So to expect him to have the bleeding blue passion that most of us have is simply not realistic. I find it refreshing that he doesn't pretend that he does. His job is to create reasons for people to call in and argue for 4 hours, 5 days a week, not to cheerlead for the Bills. Besides, he has never said he doesn't like the Bills, or he doesn't care if they do well. I've heard many times get really frustrated with the losing and the way the organization was being run. And BTW, like it or not, he IS smarter than most of the people that call into their show. -
Fred Jackson signs new contract
BuffaloBob replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amen. I love Buddy and the way he has been running things. He has truly turned this team around in so many ways. He has guys in the locker room who are excited about where the team is going and who WANT to be here. He has continued to fill holes and create depth through the draft and made some serious plays in free agency when the opportunity presented itself. All the while, keeping the guys here who have helped the team progress, so that the Bills are actually building on as opposed to replacing. He's a straight shooter and a man of his word. Buddy Nix, the man with the plan! -
THE BAD NEWS about FRED from Bull and Schlep
BuffaloBob replied to shoretalk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schoop can be short-tempered at times, maybe impatient is the right word, but this whole thing about him not liking football in Buffalo is way overblown. He is admittedly a bigger hockey fan than a football fan. So what? That doesn't disqualify him as a Sports-talk radio guy. In fact, if anything, it might make him a bit more objective when it comes to the Bills, which can be a good thing. I don't listen to them that much, and admittedly, some of the stuff they do is kind of lame. But I think Schoop is pretty smart and I actually like it when he gets edgy with people when they rant and say very little that is coherent or intelligent. Filling 4 hours and sometimes more in a town without the NBA and MLB can be tough. That's what led Mike to say that the bad news about extending Freddy is it was a no-brainer high-five moment and that they came on early with nothing to get the phones ringing. -
THE BAD NEWS about FRED from Bull and Schlep
BuffaloBob replied to shoretalk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. It had NOTHING to do with Spiller. He was only joking about the fact that there would be nothing to debate, that there would be no one complaining and that perhaps about the ONLY thing SOME poeple might be want to complain about is the Spiller pick (a previous cause for debate)because we now have Jackson extended. It was a joke dude. Lighten up Frances!
