What more evidence ESPN is lost?
BuffaloBob replied to Lt. Dan's Revenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When he cranks up that high pitched whine, he reminds of the old Saturday Night Live skit with Joe Piscipo, Doug and Debbie Whiner. And he loves to make these analogical arguments where he compares some situation in sports to some everyday situation, except that they are typically fallacious for some reason or another, which annoys the crap out of me because he thinks he's being so smart. I am perfectly happy that he no longer comes on at 10AM. -

I like Petey as well. He is not educated, but I think he's certainly street smart if not generally intelligent. And he's learning the radio host job on the fly. I give him a lot of credit. He has improved over time in his delivery, and he often has some very good insights as a former player. Don't worry, he spent the time in between on his knees for his idol Lebron! -

LB Nigel Bradham Charged with Majijuana Possesion
BuffaloBob replied to brucethomas34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know, with all these guys getting arrested for possession, but not failing tests, these guys still must be getting around the tests for the most part. Didn't Randy Moss get popped once? And what about Skittles Lynch? Wasn't he popped in a tinted car for being in possession, as wll as letting out a cloud of the chron when they rolled the windows down? When I think about that bust, I always get a vision of that scene in Predator 2 when Danny Glover gets into the car with the Jamaicans and the smoke billows out like the car is on fire. Its even worse in the NBA, as it's clearly still part of the culture. Those workarounds must still be effective! -

Yeah, I read that right after I posted. You would have to respond before I could delete my post. -

The quoted part of the policy said "up to" 4 games, so I'm sure it's at the discretion of the commander, I mean commissioner. -
Actually, he played BRUTALLY. Brutal is an adjective. You are modifying the verb to play, which requires an adverb. Thanks for your opinion as to this topic's relevance. But the rest of us find it not relevant.

Bledsoe / Brady Revisited ? We Have the Tuel In The Shed
BuffaloBob replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy has a really nice preseason game against 3 and 4th stringers and we're ready to anoint him the next Tom Brady? -

It would not be a trade. It would be signing someone to an offer sheet, and the Bills having the right of first refusal on whether to match the deal or take "compensation" for losing the player to another team. That is not a trade, even though it might be the practical equivalent. But it matters not. No team can currently sign him to an offer sheet that is any greater than a 1 year deal. This is NOT going to happen. Not only that, but I'm not sure at this point that the Bills would be required to match a one year deal anyway, although they could certainly trade him to a team dumb enough to pony up compensation for a the honor of having Byrd play one year for them.

Only ONE problem. Why would a team do that if they can no longer sign him to a long-term deal? Not going to happen now. You don't give up a first round draft choice to be in the Bills' position. Those deals can only be negotiated BEFORE the July deadline. Byrd can ONLY be signed to a one year deal now, and that includes any other team that might seek his services. Wrong. If it were at all enforceable, it would be against the rules otherwise. Therefore it would be nothing but a gentlemen's agreement that is unenforceable. What if Byrd gets injured? Think the team is going to enter into that contract the next year? What if he has a crappy year? What if another team offers a few more million per year?
-
Now that the July deadline has passed, NO team can sign him to a long-term deal. So this cannot work. The Bills and Byrd are pretty much stuck with each other unless a team is willing to take the risk that Byrd will sign long-term with them AFTER the season is over. Byrd is also taking a risk in that case because they would have to take the word of the team to which he would be prospectively traded that they would honor some gentlemen's agreement for an extension for the following year. Not going to happen. The only way a trade happens is after the season is over. If it doesn't happen before the franchise tag deadline, he gets tagged again and the trade or extension or both would have to be worked out before next year's July deadline.
-
Of course, you are making the ASSUMPTION that they actually could have signed either of those guys last year to an extension. The word during the season whenever that was raised was that both of them wanted to test free agency. If that is the case, there is NO point to trying to sign them to an extension because they want to see what the market will bear. Given that the Bills don't know that any more than the players, you could easily be overpricing them and neither you nor their agents would even know that.

Biggest Training Camp Dissapointments
BuffaloBob replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but he was NOT getting them four days in. Kolb got everything thrown at him right off the bat. Who knows where Kolb would be right now had be given all of the reps he has missed since hurting his knee. -

Had Kolb ever seen a fully unleashed Pettine defense before camp? I realize that he is a vet, but I suspect a lot of veteran QB's are going to have a tough time dealing with our new defense this season. And EJ was being acclimated much more slowly, so it's not really fair to compare the two of them yet. -
Yeah, but only if it's the one where he's wearing his Fuhkmore shirt!

Unless they tag Carrington instead of Byrd.

League to Crack Down on Celebrations, etc.
BuffaloBob replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for getting the actual language of the rule in full context, instead of reading some "journalist's" hacked and taken out of context version! Clearly, you are correct. It is ONLY when those acts are directed at another team, player, game or league official, AND they are considered abusive, threatening or insulting. It would seem that celebrating TDs as a team is fine, so long as they are not prolonged, on the ground and choreographed. Even celebrating individual plays is cool as long as they are not directed at someone. -
No, he is saying that signing BJ is at once pressure on Byrd to get into camp and the signing also indicates to Meeks that he isn't getting the job done (puts pressure on him as well). Certainly the fact that Meeks is not doing well also could be encouraging for Byrd, but the signing is also indication the Bills aren't going to wait around and hope Byrd decides to show up.

I think Sarge was lucky that was Goodwin, who seems to be a respectful and a genuinely nice guy. There are those who might have been more willing to put Sarge on his azzzz for getting in the way.
