I completely agree. The Bills had the short-term leverage advantage and the ONLY plays Eugene had were to 1) negotiate the best long-term deal possible, or 2) to demand money the Bills weren't willing to pay and did not have to, and to sit Byrd out of all off-season activities, including camp, to punish the Bills for using that leverage to their advantage. He chose option #2. Then I'm sure came the demand to agree not to tag Byrd again next year, in exchange for his cooperation this season. The Bills did not have to do that either, and they didn't. Now his client is in a tough position because he doesn't have the long-term security he wanted and if he continues to pout and malinger, he's not doing his long-term value any favors. Parker over-played his hand and assumed the Bills would cave because they did it before with Peters. I think the Bills need to stand pat, tag him again next year and then try to get what they can for him.

Totally agree. I think the Bills would have traded him for a first prior to the long-term deal deadline in July if they could have. I just don't think anyone was willing to do it. Who is going now pony up worthy player or draft pick compensation given his "condition" as well as the fact you can't be guaranteed he will re-sign anyway. The Bills need to rely on the fact that he ultimately knows he needs to perform this year, and so he better just get his sorry butt onto the field. I have no sympathy for this guy. He could have signed his long-term deal, but it wasn't good enough for him and Eugene. So now deal with it!

A handshake deal just ain't gonna cut it! Would you trust Parker to live up to it?? What if some other team comes along with an EVEN BETTER DEAL? And gee, it's the team Jairus has always wanted to play for. You gonna tell me ole Eugene is not gonna try to squeeze out some more money when he hasn't contractually bound his client. Moreover, what if Byrd gets hurt, and suddenly his value plummets? You think the team is going to sign him to some huge deal just because they agreed with a wink and a nod that they were going to do a long-term deal after the season is over? I rather doubt either side would make such a gentlemen's commitment, given how circumstances can change. You are really rolling the dice if you trade for him and value him as anything more than a rental player for the season, with hopefully an inside track to sign him long-term after the season. Maybe you could find a team willing to trade a 5th that would become a third if he signs long-term, but as an NFL GM, how much compensation do you commit under those circumstances?
-
There's a bigger issue than that when it comes to his current trade value. He cannot sign a long-term deal with whatever team trades for him, nor can he make any binding promise to do so after the season. So any draft pick you part with, you are essentially rolling the dice that he will sign long-term after the season is over. Even if Eugene is willing to make a gentlemen's agreement that Byrd will sign a long-term deal, would you trust him? I sure wouldn't!. This greatly affects his current trade value. It's not like the NHL, where there is a market for rental players to make a push for the cup. If I were an NFL GM, I wouldn't give up anything more than a 5th round pick for the guy, given that I have no idea whether I will still have his services after the season is over. The Bills need to keep him, play him, and tag him again next year. THEN, they can start looking for trade value, because at least a team trading for him can work out a long-term deal before spending the pick.

We may not blitz Brady on Sunday
BuffaloBob replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has ALWAYS been the best way to beat Brady. If you let him stand back there in the pocket he will kill you, no matter how many guys you have back in coverage. You need to hit him hard and often, and he becomes erratic. I don't think you want to blitz him on every play, but you do need to do it and you need to get into his head. Mr. Brady does not like getting hit. -
You have to wonder about Sirius NFL radio

I don't think that they ever get deep enough to get anything from their colons. I would say probably their rectums. -
Bills roster cut down to 50 (-18 then -5 more)

For what amounts to a rental player? Maybe for a bag a balls and few slightly used rolls of tape. -
LIVE: Tim Graham on PFT for bills talk
BuffaloBob replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe he should have a presser! But then again, who would attend? -
I believe it was implied by the OP when referring to the timing of the release to coincide with their fight with the union, and that was what prompted my response, "Since when does Rolling Stone Magazine do the bidding of corporations like the NFL. Then you responded to me by telling me how the Mag was different now, and more about the money. That is why I said, well trying to sell mags was one thing, but doing the bidding of the NFL was quite another.

I think he's dead on with his take on Byrd. -
[closed]Dont play EJ Manuel game 1. Period
BuffaloBob replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EJ is already riding the bike and doing cone drills on the field. He's telling Marone he's ready to go. Assuming no set-backs, I predict he will be ready to practice next week and will have the full week to get in his reps before meeting the pats. -
You're not going to get anything for Byrd til the off season, not a number one cb, not a number two cb. Nothing except a bag full of balls, because he would be nothing more than a rental player to the acquiring team. He is untradeable for any value until the end of the season. So all this gyrating over whether he's worth a cb is irrelevant.

<p>No team in its right mind is going to trade anyone of value for Byrd. He cannot sign a long term contract until this off season. So he can be one and done and all you had him for is a year. And no, he can't agree to a deal in principle, because that wouldn't be binding on him or the team. There is zero trade value until the season is over.

Kelso also said that he tended to take plays off or not complete his routes if he wasn't the primary target or wasn't getting open. When Kelso was asked whether the team could overlook that based on his potential, hoping he would straighten out, and Kelso was very quick to say NO! He went on to say that Rogers may need to be cut from a few more NFL rosters before he realizes what it takes to actually make one. That's not what Kelso said after observing him at a number of practices. His head wasn't fully in the game. He was not focused on making the team, but let himself be distracted. Kelso said he took plays off or didn't complete his routes when he wasn't the primary. This is a kid who still thinks he can get by on talent alone, and that just ain't gonna cut it in the NFL.

Bills plan for Tuel as week 1 starter
BuffaloBob replied to DisplacedBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
AMEN! Unless of course we can convince the Patriots to play their 3rd stringers on defense. -
Typical right wing conservative ignorance. You get your information from sources that count on that ignorance. If you knew ANYTHING about Constitutional law, you would know that statement you just made is completely incorrect. Just because Rush and Sean say it, doesn't make it true. But then again, I thought this was a football forum, so what do I know.

The one thing I have to disagree with is that Goodwin has surpassed Graham due to his elite speed, great hands and more explosiveness. Graham was the superstar of the wide receivers this offseason until he pulled a groin. He also has elite speed and good hands, and we simply have not seen him since early in the first preseason game due to his injury. I think you should heed your own advice and hold your horses, and let TJ show something in a game first.

Byrd signed tender [update: may still want to be traded]
BuffaloBob replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amen!! As long as Byrd doesn't get hurt, and plays well, every incentive that existed this past offseason to do a long-term deal will be present once again next offseason. If the guy wants security, he'll do a deal that is more reasonable. If he and his agent want to play the game the same way, he'll get tagged again, and while he will get a raise, he still won't have the long-term security that he seeks. The Bills should play it EXACTLY the same way again this off-season. If he wants out, let Eugene find him a team willing to compensate the Bills with what they believe is reasonable value for them. If the super agent can't get that done, then he can sign a reasonable long-term contract, or risk a down season or injury for a second straight year. BUT, if Byrd gets hurt to the point of a shortened season, or just plays poorly, Parker's strategy is going to blow up right in his face. And I totally agree, if he goes that route again, tag him a third year. The three year average salary is quite reasonable under those circumstances. And once again, Byrd would have every incentive to still sign a long-term deal rather than risk a down season or serious injury for a third straight season. You are correct. The Bills are in the driver seat for once, and they need to keep their course, steady as she goes. -
LB Nigel Bradham Charged with Majijuana Possesion
BuffaloBob replied to brucethomas34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, it's "you COULDN'T care less." If you COULD care less, that means you still care a t least some. Get it? And yes, the Pats are such a class organization, that they drafted the guy notwithstanding a fairly extensive series of run-ins with the law and teammates and a generally gangsta attitude prior to drafting him. They only waited til he capped someone execution style before finally getting rid of him. Possessing marijuana is not a crime that involves a victim. Do you get that distinction? Hernandez has left a stream of vics in his wake during his New England tenure. And three of them are dead and one of him is missing an eye. But yeah, your right, a bag of chron in the glove box is certainly on that level. You funny! -

Geesh! This is really lame to say the least. As a middle-aged white man, it's hard to imagine having to deal with this crap, let alone feeling like I'd better just cooperate rather than piss off the powers that be. I'm a lawyer and the few times this has happened to me, I will only let them go so far before I let them know they're messing with someone who knows his rights. But to be honest, I'm not sure if I was in your shoes how I would handle it. I was pulled over by a Sherriff one night after doing some gambling at the Casino in Irving with my brother. No drugs, weapons or alcohol in the car. It was late on a week night, and he starts trying to tell me that the reason he pulled me over was because there had been a report of some disturbance caused by some guys driving a vehicle with a description matching my car. I was driving a late model silver Dodge Magnum with the v8 hemi. Now, that car was NEVER very popular, and I never saw one in four years that I had it that matched mine. So the chances that someone was actually causing trouble on the rez on a weeknight in a car just like mine were remote. I let him question me, and I was cooperative until he asked me if it would be alright to search my car. I asked him why, and he said because he wanted to be sure there were no drugs or weapons in the car. I assured them there were not, and I asked him what probable cause he had as a basis for that concern, and he started repeating this report about trouble and the matching vehicle, and that if I didn't have anything to hide, why wouldn't I just let him do it, and I finally politely interrupted him with a smile, and let him know that I wasn't buying it. He then went to the other side of the car and started questioning my brother, and when he heard my brother was from Eden, he wanted him to get out of the car because he had some questions about some illegal activity supposedly going on in Eden, and I interrupted him again and asked him what jurisdiction he had in Eden and why he was now planning to question my brother about something that was completely unrelated to the supposed reason we were pulled over in the first place. He asked me if I was a lawyer, and I said "why yes I am. What gave it away?" He abruptly told me get going and walked back to his cruiser. It's a fine line you have to walk with them and they know that. They rely on the fact that you will be intimidated by the fact that they have a weapon on their hip and presumed authority.
