st round QB summary after wildcard weekend
gblakely14 replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe I am missing something, but dont Eli Manning and Phillip Rivers also count in this debate. I think it is trivial to say that since they were traded between teams 1 minute after Rivers was drafted that they dont count for some reason. But with including them you have 5 out of the 12 and both the top seed in the NFC and the top seed in the AFC with QBs that they drafted in the first round. I also know that your point is that no QB drafted in the first round has led the team that chose them to the SB since Aikman, before Big Ben last year, but it seems like a more relevant post would be just a general comment on first round QBs in general, and in that case you can throw Steve McNair in there as well. Bringing the number to 6 out of the 12. -
Come on back to your thread brother...the Titans are 6-7 and this is the third time in 4 weeks that Vince Young has led the Titans from behind for a win...I mean since he has taken over at QB they are 6-3...that is probably why everyone is glowing over him...I cant wait to see what you have to say after the end of todays game.

did anyone proofread felser's column??
gblakely14 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other responsibilities than writing a piece for the Bills, cut him some slack? This dude's job as a columnist is to write pieces on the Bills, THATS HIS JOB, you would think he would know the won-loss record of the team he is paid to cover. -

Young Hungry Guys IS What Marv is Brinigng In
gblakely14 posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really like what Marv is doing here with these FA signings. He is taking players who are in there 4th/5th years in the league, who by all accounts are system guys for the system that he and Coach Juron are trying to implement and giving them a chance to prove themselves. All three of these guys have started for their teams but for the most part weren't superstars. All three sound like they are high character, high motor guys with great upside, who are most importantly hungry to contribute and contribute in a big way for a team that is wants them. Royal, while not flashy, drew rave reviews this past year from Joe Gibbs on his blocking ability, and even admittedly from Gibbs was just not the first option with Chris Cooley being such a threat. Then man had to be doing something right he started the past 26 out of 31 games for the Skins, a scrub doesnt do that. He wasnt a second stringer/ST that half this board keeps quoting him as. As a lifelong VA Tech fan, I am pretty excited about the opportunity we are giving Andre Davis. Contrary to some other posts stating that he had no one else interested in him, if you go to www.kffl.com you will see that the Steelers, Texans, Chargers, and Bucs were all interested in him as well. When he stepped on the field at Tech he was pure electricity and is a threat to take it to the house everytime he touches the ball. He was an exciting punt returner with very good hands, and has more than enough moves to make people miss after the catch. He missed the first half of the season with an injury last year. You never have to question his effort or desire. Tripplett I think will end up being a steal. I have seen him ranked in the Top 5 of every FA DT rankings. This guy was part of a 3 man rotation that included Corey Simon, and he still put up pretty good DT numbers. He is exactly the type of DT that Marv said that they were targeting, and has played in our new system of D for the past 4 years. I think we will all see what he has come season time. Also look at what kind of contract he got compared to other guys he was rated higher than yesterday, some of those DTs were breaking teams yesterday. Geniusly played by Marv. Marv has invited 3 in and signed all 3. I think this should be one of the most important things that we all look at. While these guys may not have been Tier 1 guys in some of our opinions they are what this team needed. This speaks to where the team sits in the eyes of players around the league. Under TD the past couple years it seemed like a place where people ran away from, and people left extremely bitter. I think we are definitely headed in the right direction. As far as the OL, I am not a huge fan of bringing in old guys, but if these guys have 2 to 3 left in them, and can mentor some young guys we draft this year and next, then I am all for it. Especially if they can play at a relatively high level this year and next. -
www.scout.com Ranks Tripplett 5th DT
gblakely14 replied to gblakely14's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing is he is way younger than Sam, and hopefully we will resign Ron Edwards. Many more years on the tires than Sam has left in him. He is more the type of DT we are looking for in this new system as well. -
Scout.com has Tripplett ranked as the 5th best DT available this offseason, above both Pickett and Lewis from the Rams and above a whole host of the guys signed to huge contracts today, only DT ranked higher in terms of stars is Rockey Bernard, I think this is a very wise signing and just what we needed. Not sure what to make of the Robert Royal signing to be honest with you. http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=64&p=9&c=12&y...83&rc=16&pid=22

I should preface every post with this: IF THERE IS ANYWAY WE CAN GET DABRICK WE HAVE TO DO IT... That being said I think our next choics should be thus: 1. Trading back, trying to pick up an extra #2 and taking Broderick Bunkley -The more that I read about this beast the more I think he is what we are looking for in this new D we are implementing...if we pick up Pickett or Bernard in FA and take Bunkley then I think we are set with DL, I think we should resign Ron Edwards as well...work in an incentive deal, to protect against injury again 2. Take Vernon Davis...this man is going to revolutionize the TE position...he led the ACC in receiving as a junior.. www.billszone.com has a great write up on teh Top 10 things that you dont know about the 2006 Draft...talks to both these gentleman... If Im not mistaken Bunkely put up 225 44 times at teh combine and ran something like a 4.94 If we could get Bunkley and pick up an extra second I think that is what we should do... Not opposed to Huff either though 2 Players who if by some act of god fell to us we couldnt pass on are Da BRick and Mario Williams...but that is slim to none I think

Offseason Moves-All Very Realistic
gblakely14 replied to gblakely14's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was somewhat confusing what I wrote... I meant to write that Wroten is pegged as a DT that flies off the ball, is a great one gap penetrator, who gets in the backfield and gets pressure on the QB. And is considered too undersized to be a guy who eats up space and blocks up front, he IS NOT considered to be a big Sam Adams, Pat Williams type DT. Marv and Dick did say that one of the reasons that they cut Sam Adams was that they are looking for smaller more athletic DT that fly to the ball. In that light Nagata does not fit what they are said to be lookign for or fit the cover 2 style of DT. That was my point behind the fact we will not select Nagata. -
First of all Kevin Everett has yet to play a down in the NFL. Secondly he is coming off of an injury. Third he never produced like he should have at the U. Fourth the regime that drafted him is no longer here, and the new regime may not think as highly of him. Vernon Davis is a freak and an once in a decade type prospect. DT can be addressed in RD 2, it is an extremely deep DT draft, as well as some free agents out there that can be had for a reasonable price (Bernard, Pickett) that are both young and up and coming. TE, S, OT, OG, DT are all needs, and out of these who can we get at 8 that will be an instant contributor within our system, Davis at TE and Huff at S could both be instant starters. Ngata is exactly the same type of player Sam Adams is and if you listen to Marv and Dick when they cut him, it was because he was the type of DT they are lookign for in our new system. Winston Justice may also be a good option but only if we trade down a couple of picks, not at Number 8. There certainly arent any guards at 8 that are worth it. Broderick Bunkley would also be a choice if we traded down.

Offseason Moves-All Very Realistic
gblakely14 replied to gblakely14's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No one most likely available at pick number 8 would fit our plan or is worthy of the number 8 pick. Also you are completely discounting FA moves. Nagata is not the kind of player for the scheme we are trying to employ. Wroten is exactly that type player, and is going to most likely available to us in Round 2. You get one of the Rams DTs in FA or Bernard from Seattle, and then take Wroten and resign Edwards. You now have your DTs for your scheme. Also the D line and the OLine were addressed with the next 3 picks in my plan. You dont pass up a once in a decade TE, especially the way the league is now, just because you want to force something that isnt there. If Da Brick is a possibility then of course you do that. -
Rd 1 Michael Huff Texas Jimmy Williams VA Tech Vernon Davis Maryland *Should go without saying that if there is anyway in the world that we can get DaBrick I think that is the number 1 option. *Vernon Davis is the best TE prospect to come out in over a decade I would think and could completely revolutionize our offense...with him and Everett our team would be very tough to cover...I think we should retain Josh Reed and give him one more chance (I have seen him listed on many sites as a Free Agent to take a chance on for other teams) *Huff and Williams are both great S/CB prospects that would give us great options in the secondary, both are tremebdous playmakers with blazing speed and the ability to deliver a thundering blow. The only knock on Williams is about attitude. As a lifelong Hokie I know for a fact this kid is someone you want on your team, he came back for his senior year, when he would have been the number 1 corner last year in the draft just for a shot at the national title, and then the getting thrown out of the Bowl game this year was bogus, he barely touched the ref, and it was more incidental then anything if you watched the replay, and was a clear overreaction by the ref. Rd 2 DT Claude Wroten LSU *I think after reading several write ups about this guy, he is exactly what Jurons/Fewells defense calls for from their DT's. Every write up I read says how he is a gap pentrator that flys to the ball, and delivers great pressure, but is somewhat undersized to eat up blocks. That is word for word what Marv and Dick have said that they want from their DTs. He is our man, and with him most likely available in the gives us 1st round options. *I think along with attempting to sign one of the Rams DT or Rocky Bernard from Seattle, and resigning Ron Edwards we would then be set up front. Rd 3 *I think this clearly where we go with the two best OL prospects left on the board. *Ideally I would like to see Daryn Colledge Bosie State OR Jeremy Trueblood Boston College or Max-Jean Giles Georgia (Pretty far stretch he will still available) Other players to consider A) Flyer on a QB like Omar Jacobs B) WR option like Mike Haas Oregon State C) Best LB available *Not going to go past Round 3, basically a crap shoot after that Free Agency 1) DT needs to be addressed *Rocky Bernard is the first choice - also the type of DT for our new system *Either of the Rams DTs are the second choice 2) OLine help his needed *Realistic first choice should defintiely be Kevin Scaheffer from Atlanta. Many sources have him pegged to be on the verge of becoming a perennial Pro Bowler, and should be within our spending limitations. 3) WR Help *Antonio Bryant is only 24 and had a breakout year last year, should be highly considered to star opposite Lee Evans. Was once considered a sure star in the NFL coming out of Pittsburgh. 4) Safety Help *Tank Williams Tennessee -Realistically he should be the number one option the Bills pursue at Safety, Chris Hope is nice but is really not that much of an upgrade for the payday that he is sure to demand. Tank is a 4 year starter in Tennesse and young, should be a great option in Juron's Cover 2.

Random Mock Draft...Very Interesting Write Up
gblakely14 posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://www.fantasyfootballjungle.com/y/nfl.../mock-draft.php 8. Buffalo Bills Davis, Vernon, TE Maryland The Bills seem to be a mess right now. They have a young QB who hasn’t played up to the caliber they expected. They have a young RB who underachieved last season. It appears the Bills are going to cut WR Eric Moulds. Moulds has turned down two pay cuts now and has been said to be very unhappy with the team. The Bills just recently released TE Mark Campbell and that leaves a huge need at TE and a valuable #2 option to Lee Evans. Nobody put on a better performance than Vernon Davis the TE of Maryland at the NFL Combine. At 255 he ran a 4.35 40 which I believe is the fastest 40 time ever ran by a TE. He put up 33 reps of 225 pounds on the bench which is very good for a TE prospect. These numbers in my opinion are impressive enough to make him as a lock for a top 10 pick. In fact I think Davis is hands down the best TE prospect possibly of all time. He’s better than Kellen Winslow in every category and he has a way better attitude. TE might not be the most glaring need though. The Bills have a huge need at OT and DT. Haloti Ngata would fit well here, as he could be a replacement for departed 2005 free agent Pat Williams. The defense just wasn’t the same without that big body in middle and it really showed last year. Winston Justice would be a possibility as well as a need for a OT is high on their board. Though with the depth in this draft at DT and OT the Bills should be able to find a good player at both of those positions in round 2 and round 3. Another option is trading up for D’Brickashaw Ferguson. The 49ers might want to move down from the 6 spot for Michael Huff and the Bills could be a realistic trading partner if Ferguson is on the board. In the end though if they are unable to trade up Vernon Davis in my mind pretty much proved he’s a top 10 pick and the Bills could use him to help farther along the development of JP Losman. -
Why are we not trying to at least interview Al Saunders? He has run one of most impressive offenses around, look at what he has done with both Priest and now Larry Johnson, hopefully he could bring that to B-Lo with Willis. Also they have never really had a great WR and they continue to put up unreal numbers. He seems like an obvious choice. He also coached under Marty when they were one of our chief rivals in the early 90s. I am baffled why he isnt on our list.

The Buffalo Bills officially announced the release of GM Tom Donahoe today at a 2:30pm Press Conference and just three hours later announced that Head Coach Mike Mularkey will be staying on as the Buffalo Bills Head Coach for the 2006 season...there is speculation that in between the two announcements the Bills struck a deal with former Coach Marv Levy to become the teams Chief of Football Operations and wanted to get his approval to keep Mike Mularkey as the teams Head Coach...the Bills will officially welcome Marv Levy back into the organization before the end of the week is out. http://www.eastcoastsportsnews.com/2006Draft.html

Found by AssphawN on billszone.com http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/co...E1?OpenDocument Not saying Losman is great yet or will be, but are you kidding me labeling him a bust. Let this ass clown know what you think. Here's some of what he had to say: 1. "Most NFL wise guys think there's a better chance that San Francisco is about to select the next Kyle Boller or J.P. Losman with that top pick than the next future Hall of Famer." 2. "Let's take a look back at some of those guys who have been picked in the first two rounds over the past 10 years. Here are some of the "gems," in no particular order: Ryan Leaf (first round), Todd Collins (second round), Jim Druckenmiller (first), Cade McNown (first), Akili Smith (first) and Quincy Carter (second). How about Tony Banks, Charlie Batch, Shawn King and Marques Tuiasasopo (all second-rounders), and Patrick Ramsey, Joey Harrington, Rex Grossman, Boller and Losman (all first-round selections)" This chumps email address is: bburwell@post-dispatch.com

I agree Im not sure that WR is the best choice, I think that there are some quality WRs later in the draft..
