  1. Actually, he was just that - a guy who sent information from his garage "scouting service" (which was just him on his own dime following players). Eventually he scouted for Levy in the CFL, who then recommended him to be hired by KC, then Chicago and back to CFL. THEN he joined the Bills. So, yeah, Polian did it the hard way. http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-62...nd-winding.html But because Brandon started in Marketing, has a football background and is building a scouting resume learning with the troops he's a joke? God help you then, because guys like Joe Gibbs would never have gotten a job with no college or pro playing experience - or Chris Polian (Bill's son) shouldn't be rising up the ranks because he is a "joke" too.
  2. Would a quack who sent scouting suggestions to nfl teams from his garage be as good? Cuz we did that too - and he (Polian) turned out pretty good. I get the contingent that thinks that Brandon sucks thinks that. You don't have to remind us every post. That's all some are saying..
  3. I think one thing the Patriots have done which helps them is surround their stars/core players with what people have called "the NFL middle class" - guys who were journeymen or just average to above average. I think that's a more economical way to do it - spend your money on your core and then build people around them.
  4. I completely agree with you as far as compared to Gross. And the motivation. That's one thing, regardless of position that scares the crap out of me - paying a big guy that doesn't have the want to - especially as hungry as Jason was when he was the PS player turned special teamer turned RT. I think if he and his reps can come down a little on their price, the Bills will keep him. But if he keeps up with his price, they'll probably move him to the Eagles, who'll probably pay him in the 9.5 mil range or so and be done with it. I'd hope we'd get a first rounder (probably their later pick) but a first rounder and a low pick or a first rounder and a player (don't care what, something to offset draft re-prioritization). But as the recent drafts has shown, guys are coming into the league ready to play. If we got an Oher or A. Smith and with the second pick got a Johnson or Pettigrew, they made the best of a bad situation.
  5. The problem with these negotiations is that he's basing them off of two unrealistic candidates to bring to the Bills - Long (1st overall pick) and Gross (Who had the Panthers by the cajones with the Peppers craziness). WITH bonus, I'd say get him to 10, but not ten and a bonus...
  6. C'mon Bill...12 million is not the going rate. Maybe for a guy drafted this year at number one, but not for a vet and that is not the Bills' fault.
  7. But the thing is, Smith was in WORSE shape this season and was, again on film the best left tackle.
  8. I think the difference between him and Williams is that off the field Smith has been a screw up, but on the field, he is phenomenal. I mean like crazy good. Don't let the bad body fool you - he should be the best Tackle in this draft. But he's not the smartest when it comes to decisions in his young 20s. Hopefully, that changes if he becomes a Bill.
  9. Jester, You got me there. There have been times when I think back and say, "He's kind of coasting on us." I cannot refute that. But, I think Tipster's post is where I sit - I know he's not perfect. I know he's not going to spend as much as a Jones or a Snyder in any capacity. But I do know I'm a Bills fan and will be until they leave. I'll look at the team, say "they've got a chance" til they don't. I apologize if I came across as argumentative and I just ask all fans, regardless of where they sit with regard to the Bills to think about this - why torment yourself if you think they are hopeless? Because the negativity just eats at you. I look at Sully's articles and how smarmy and negative he is about nearly everything there is to Buffalo and I think that started with a joke here and there, then it became an article and now he's spent, what? 20 years or so just waiting to smash whatever it is that's come his way for the Bills or Sabres? Or Gleason's schtick of being completely non-plussed until there's something he can turn into a joke? Bills fans, we've been through a lot. Some of y'all far more than me. But I know that the good times are coming again. We all just have to hang on for it!
  10. A lot of the spread routes are just drags or a Smash concept to one side - because of that, the receivers don't learn what a lot of teams (Cal for instance) teach their receivers in terms of pro route running.
  11. I think with respect to Poz, he was played at the middle late at PSU and so here he still was learning. To be honest, he'd probably thrive as an OLB and to get a Mike in this draft to replace him wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. But, because of his rookie injury, I'm not ready to label him anything other than a work in progress to this point.
  12. And they were close enough that if they really needed to provide proof of insurance as he claimed they could have gone to the house, OR (as I have done when in HS) called the insurance company on site for proof. I'm sad that this guy is putting a pall on the overall good nature of most cops. Anytime I'm in a diner in the area here in Pittsburgh I try to pay for an officer's meal, because the good ones are putting their lives on the line. But this dude, he needs to lose his job yesterday.
  13. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...as.3ecf949.html He also did the same to Zach Thomas' wife, who he actually did detain...
  14. You mean the franchise Wilson helped keep afloat? Look, if you hate Wilson and think he will sell to the highest bidder, why hadn't he done it when it was available? Why didn't he move to LA and leave this supposed 'greatest fans' base when he had chances? Make semantics about being a fan and not a consumer, but just let this hate go. It's bad for your health.
  15. I disagree Bill because of the situation they are in. Because they have a first round corner and (now) Free Safety, a guy like Jenkins is out because he cannot play strong (he's a corner to start and would be a better FS). We have TO and Hardy, so they cannot pick a WR. Despite the suspension we have Lynch, so no need for a RB. We have Edwards, who they love, so we most likely won't pick a QB. Despite the fact most teams knew he'd run a 4.8 Pettigrew most likely isn't an option and may even be there in round 2. So, that to me leads to either LB, DE or OT/OG in round one. And the more I think about it the more I think it'll be a guy that can play LB as well as End more than a pure end because a LB/DE will produce more by way of being on the field and productive rather than just "learning on the job". In terms of Tipster's post - I'm intrigued (Bills player or not) in Maualuga, Sidbury, Freeman, Unger and Fenuki Tupou.
  16. I think the best comparison's I've heard made by Pat Kirwan and others for Maybin isn't a Freeney or a Mathis but rather him being a young version of Andre Carter. Andre is a guy who plays now full-time at the end position but when he came into the league he went from Defensive End to Linebacker and occassional DE. His first few years, Maybin could be our SAM (which is most people's WILL - aligned with the 3 tech and the flows to the ball) and run around like a maniac, make some plays, get some sacks in rush situations on the edge. As he gets more developed, as a player and physically he can transition to full time DE.
  17. Some teams also bring guys in so that they have a feel for him in future years, should he become a free agent, get traded for, etc...
  18. Do you have any articles, links, etc on this or is this just speculation? Because it sounds like you're just spinning your wheels in "I hate all things Bills" and he's the recipient this week of it. With regard to Robinson, if he's there in the 2nd, him or Unger would be good options - Unger for his depth at three positions and Robinson for his Starting ability at LG and perhaps Tackle in a pinch. Heck, if we did wait til round 3 for a TE, we'd probably have Coffman and maybe Casey. Either works. But, if we go TE round 2, we can get a Levitre perhaps, maybe Urbik or Wood....Lots o' options!
  19. If by let go you mean he opted out of his contract with a year left to go on it, then it's the same player. Otherwise, of whom do you speak?
  20. http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa...d.6f8a23c1.html One thing that was missed from this article - The Cop PULLED HIS GUN on the Moats' wife! I think if this was a "normal" case, him and the city they're in would be getting sued (they still may be). However, in this case with an NFL player I think he may just push for this guy to get fired and let it go there.
  21. I can tell you Tipster that as a black man, when I was a teenager getting ready to drive my dad told me and my brothers to act just as Moats did with the officer, if things seem to be going South - "Yes sir", "No sir" and attempt to get the badge number/information on the officer to complain later, NOT at the scene. My neighbor growing up was a 27 year NYPD vet (white) was one of the kindest people I've ever known and HE supported that method too. In fact, a few of my white friends have argued with police officers about tickets, citations, etc and after they told me it happened I'd always reply, "you'd never catch me doing that..." So, it does exist and I hope to God it never happens to a kid I have, but they'll be prepared for how to deal with it.
  22. The problem doesn't lie in the fact that Peters wants 61 mil over 6 years, he wants at least 72 mil (12 per) over 6 years. If you're paying your LT that, what are we going to pay Edwards or whomever is our long term QB?
  23. To me, this pales in comparison to the new rule prohibiting defenders from throwing a shoulder or forearm at a player going over the middle for a pass, essentially ensuring yards after the catch and preventing defenders from doing their job. Next up: Five Mississippi calls for blitzes....
