  1. Yeah, based on where the 5 (DE) and 3 (DT) align, they flow to that side. That's predicated by the presence of the TE or where the strength of the formation is. So for Kawika, he was the SLB (as Will) who took care of the TE in conjunction with the SS - see the Pick versus SD, where Gates was covered high by the safety and he snuck under, even though he was aligned on the other side of the field.
  2. We align based on where our "bubble" is defensively - the 3 and the 5 technique. So from there, the the Will and Sam will flop accordingly.
  3. Yeah BB, He does, but our Will and Sam are reversed, so Kawika is the one that typically handles tight end trail, running into the line, stuff like that and Ellison is our run around blocks and get to the carrier guy. So in the Rams D, Pisa cannot run into the TE and bang every play because physically he couldn't hold up. But in our Defense he would align in the "bubble" off the 3 and the 5 techniques, whereever they line up. For us, Pisa would be able to blitz, cover and stop then run in conjunction with the rest of the team. Other than Poz, I haven't really heard them mention a guy solely responsible for bringing the ballcarrier down.
  4. He got cut because at his weight he couldn't play the Sam like they had Kawika playing two years ago. Kawika mans that spot here, and Pisa would replace Ellison as the Will/run to the ball hitter. No need for one to be an indictment of the other.
  5. A lot of reports are saying that he failed his physical in Cinci and would probably fail one now with teams which lend to your theory Bill. If we really want a Tackle, we should probably look at chatting with the Jags, who have four starters and only two spots...
  6. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7683092806794054030 Great Video on Pisa's journey in the context of a Samoan player from the hood making good...
  7. Just because that was leaked, doesn't mean that we are going to run it all the time. In fact, even by saying it, what can NE do? Call timeouts to slow it down? They cannot mug receivers like they would against Manning years ago. They could fake injuries to slow it down, but it's not like they don't do stuff like that anyway. To assume the staff is stupid because of this is just itching for something to justify the urine currently drizzling in their cornflakes.
  8. One thing about Fewell: when he had healthy parts throughout his tenure here he has tried to be aggressive; it was only after people started falling apart that he eased up.
  9. For a guy who's been universally panned as the "fat guy" Walker played three positions pretty well last year, without the need to be spelled.
  10. In a perfect world, we can get some whites and in 2011 switch full time to those as home/away and the current blue on blue as our alternates...
  11. They may like having him push Neill, even off the team, because there were several instances last season where the snap didn't get to Moorman in a timely (fixed with a .72-.75 long snap time) and direct manner.
  12. Looks like it according to the article. If it's accurate, I'm annoyed we burn one of our games in a pre-season encounter. We always wear the throwbacks in the pre-season! Hopefully, we can wear them at home against either the bucs or in Toronto against the "Titans" of NY. But, worst case scenario, letting us wear them in the playoffs wouldn't be too bad either
  13. Maybin will be on ESPN's First Take today (around 10a) take a look and see what he's chattin' about!
  14. You are right - they cannot exceed the 80 man active roster limit for training camp. However, they can still bring in the tryout guys for otas and mini-camps without signing them and go from there. Also, realize guys like Hardy may be on the PUP until they are ready to practice, which is another roster spot open.
  15. But cincy, all 32 teams evaluated Nelson prior to the draft - and one of the reasons he may have fallen was that lack of blocking ability to this point. That's not something that isn't known by the teams; if anything the things that they present to the public are things that may be common knowledge to the NFL at large but may be unknown to the common fan. One more thing - notice that the writer added the "lack of" to the quote, not Coiner.
  16. I think it is legal for a lineman on D to wear a 50 - Suggs, Burgess, Taylor and Trent Cole I believe wear em.... Good catch on Thomas Lori. I didn't realize he'd snapped it up. But, should he be cut in TC (or even after this mini camp) we'll find out if Aaron wants his 59 back!
  17. Kawika switched to 55 shortly after Crow left, so 59 I thought was open....
  18. As of now it's 58...I would hold off until training camp cuts, as the number he may really want may be unavailable right now...
  19. And 30 tryouts... http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1...ad-c34363fd6397
  20. He is serious...and don't call him Shirley!
  21. I think it's because while you cannot have a group of three, you can have two groups of two players. As long as they aren't within whatever the specified yardage of each other, you can use them as two separate walls. I think that will decrease the injuries but increase the usage of more agile guys back there, allowing the returner more "pockets" to run behind if you will.
  22. SoCal, I think Aaron is a shade under 6'4, if that, so he's not like a Everette Brown who would have had a bit of trouble rounding the corner against long armed NFL Tackles... Because of his age and the fact he's carrying about 250 now, he'll probably be a 240 lb'er for a few seasons, maybe more and by age say, 25 or so he will be able to keep the weight on as most of us do naturally through age. 1. I would say instead of thinking of him as "just" a Tampa 2 / Cover 2 pass rusher, think of him as a pass rusher. In terms of situationals, being a one-gap penetrating defense actually plays to his strengths. As Teerlinck, the Colts DL coach puts it, he wants his guys to stop the run on the way to the passer - meaning that as long as you're back there blowing up the play you're doing your job. Maybin would fit in perfectly with the defense in that regard. At first, until he is up to par strength wise, the run game may suffer a bit, but we can scheme around that... With Maybin, he can focus on just getting after the QB in a number of ways: o Getting into a wider stance and attempting to blow by the passer; o Using countermoves learned from Sanders in addition to his speed rush, such as the spin move, etc outside of power, which he cannot use with any success at present; o Scheming for him to be the "free rusher" on a blitz or line game, such as the Creep To me, using him in the creep as a pseudo rush-linebacker is attractive because some of those blitzes out of the Creep didn't work at times because we didn't have someone with the wheels to get the QB. Now we do. 2. He can in fact just be a guy that comes in on the rushing downs, but we could also sprinkle in on downs that are a traditional passing down for a team (first down for instance) 3. When he goes in, I think Kelsay would go out and he would play LE. If Schobel is out getting spelled, I'd imagine it'd be a lineup of Stoud, Maybin, Spencer and someone else from the peanut gallery (McCargo, Kelsay, Denney, Ellis...) with him at RE. Because Maybin can play LE or RE and rush effectively (mind you from college) he is very versatile. I think it would also hinge on the usage of the Creep, which is another way they could scheme for him to be open on the rush. 4. I don't think this would limit the number of nickel or dime packages, because the coverage in the back could remain the same. If anything, we could go "Big Nickel" (3 Safeties) if we felt having Maybin on the Nickel unit would require some beef behind him in case of run. 5. There are a ton of guys throughout the league that have been situational rushers and effective - Simeon Rice, Jason Taylor (at first), Freeney, Mathis, Leonard Little on the Superbowl Rams, Elvis Dumervil, Bruce toward the end....Heck, Darwin Walker was schemed to be a rusher at DT for the Eagles the year he got his 6 or so sacks.
  23. He was to blame for that to be sure (despite Donte not getting there either) but that was his first game here, as he was signed a few days prior. I'm not advocating tossing him a pass on 4th and 29, I'm just saying he'd be a good option as a pure blocking TE to keep the LT and by extension Trent upright.
  24. And I figure he'd be a better guy in wedge on KR/PR and a darn good blocker to help the LT du jour....
