  1. It goes from the dip in the shoulder to the tip of the middle finger. Former Scout on Twitter
  2. Thanks for the post. I would disagree about Alualu though, he played quite well in Cal's 3-4 as a 5 Tech DE.
  3. I think they'll work on it, but they'll most likely sign a 6th OT type TE to help with the run game and let Nelson become the Y open (split out) player. Brandon Manumaleuna sticks out as an option, as well as the recently departed (two years ago) Michael Gaines amongst others...
  4. And don't forget, much like Porter and Adalius Thomas, there will be a ton of vets front offices don't want to pay at their current salary and will cut. An uncapped year is the best time to clear that space, because there's no penalty. So while the list of official FA (barring Franchise/Transition tags) is good, we'll have another 60+ (assuming 2 dumps at least a team) to work with.
  5. Two things: 1. I'm not thinking about Mike Williams, I'm thinking about any player that has had the "work ethic" tag added to their profile. That is a very dangerous game and not one someone should get into just to prove the world/rest of NFL wrong. 2. Short arms can be countered with outstanding technique, footwork and (here it comes again) a hard-working mentality. Those are all qualities that Bulaga has had. In fact, his biggest issue going into this year was his run blocking, which he improved upon greatly, despite the Thyroid issue.
  6. Everyone who got waived/cut failed their physical - Adam Caplan Twitter
  7. Davis is an extremely talented player, but he has had issues with work ethic, according to several reports on him. Is he worth the risk?
  8. No worries! There's also the Sporting News Today which ranks some of them, but eliminates people we may consider viable stopgaps.
  9. AFC Free Agents NFC Free Agents
  10. Per Mort on Twitter: Drew Brees 3rd NFL season: 11 TD's & 15 INTs...58% passer. Are you honestly telling me after a season with those numbers people would have wanted to keep him here? Heck, Edwards won't get a shot amongst most of Bills Nation...
  11. There's also the fact that most of these guys don't work out from the time season ends til about halfway into OTAs/Team Workouts. I'd rather have him as a guy that shrinks in the offseason than a guy that'll balloon and then have to cut weight by camp.
  12. I'd like to thank the Academy, Xyience and William H Macy for the opportunity to win this Last Post Wins award. It truly has changed my life!
  13. With the intention of fixing as much as possible in year one and stopping the bleeding, I would say: RD 1 - LT RD 2 - NT (I would say perhaps Cam Thomas over Cody to ensure a guy that can not only play 3 downs, but NT and 5 Tech) RD 3 - WR or LB RD 4 - DE or OL From RD 4 and on, getting a BPA or feeding the fronts offensively and defensively can ensure that despite not getting a QB this year, you have everything set to live with whatever we bring to camp for 2010. Then 2011 can focus on getting that QB.
  14. Denney was scouted as a 3-4 DE with his length and size. In fact at the time Donahoe was trying to screw the Steelers by getting him. So I don't see why he couldn't be in a wave at DE in a 3-4.
  15. I would go with... 1. Bulaga, solid player and a base hit. 2. Ducasse, can play LT/LG/RG/RT so can most likely start at RG or RT should Wood or Butler not be ready. 3. Washington, bigger linebacker with a ton of speed and coverage ability. Would help establish the LOS on other side of offense. 4. Roberts (Citadel) wasn't listed, but I'd take him. He's a solid future number two and can battle for a slot this year. Think Hines Ward with a little more speed. 5. Brown (WVU) or Linval Joseph (ECU) - Either a QB to develop or a solid NT candidate for the 3-4 or 4-3.
  16. Astro, Is the kid from Citadel available in rd 3 or 4 (or even 5?)
  17. He's DL/Asst Head Coach. So, unless they wanted to give up all that defensive football knowledge, we'd have had to offer him the HC position for them not to block the move.
  18. I like the thinking Astro. Impact LB, Tackle, QB, Tackle and if the DT holds up, we'd have 5th, 6th, 6th, 7th, 7th to grab some more peeps. Think of it this way red: if the others have the positional versatility, having a guy like Young start at RT would only make us better. We'd actually have depth behind him.
  19. Two things: 1. He would fill most of what Nix mentioned, because of his top coordinator status coupled with 9 years as a head coach on the college level. Much like Nix's foray into college prior to going into scouting full time. 2. Though he used the Tampa 2 in Minny, he has been in the Buddy Ryan 4-6 and the zone blitzing style of Jim Johnson on the Eagles. So just because that's the system that was there when he got there (that he picked up on the Colts) doesn't mean as a HC he cannot integrate all of his defensive knowledge in Buffalo.
  20. If we did get Fox, he just set an NFL record with two 1100 yard rushers. If we get the line sorted out, Marshawn and Fred would make any qb's life much easier.
  21. Not so fast Astro - if you look at a lot of the SD defense under Rivera, while they're officially a 3-4, he has them more or less in an "over" look, with Merriman with his hand in the dirt. So he's using pressure and what he knows in the 4-3 (without the Tampa 2). If anything we may need to have a pre-emptive priority on a true DE, as Denney's a FA, Schobel may retire and Kelsay, Maybin and Ellis do not a rotation make. Can you make a size requirement for Linebackers? Because Watson is around 225 or so and we'll probably want a bigger OLB...
  22. And Scribo that was against a 3-4, that he'd never seen up to this point (at least not a true 3-4; many team utilize the 3-3-5)
  23. Don't forget, that Modrak was a person that lobbied to get Nix hired last year. And seeing that he wasn't in the final interviews for GM, being a super scout that Nix can rely on could be just the thing for him.
