Not everyone likes him, but I would not pass on Mitchell at #28. Don't know if you have an opinion on Greg Cosell, but I think he is an excellent analyst. You should look up his take on Mitchell.

I think he goes day 2.

Beane Discusses Draft Strategy w/ Pat McAfee
Dr. Who replied to Donuts and Doritos's topic in The Stadium Wall
I guess you could stipulate enough conditions to try and manipulate the scenario into a particular choice. I just glanced at this page, so maybe I'm not following the conversation properly. If the question is about WR specifically, and you stipulate Thomas and Mitchell are gone, and Legette is a second rounder on the Bills' board, I suspect Troy Franklin could be the choice. I'm not high on him, nor am I keen on Coleman at #28, but it's possible those are the fellas they are looking at. I would make most of the board unhappy and take McConkey, if Legette is ruled out and you have to take a WR at #28. -

I think they probably try and trade back, but if Cooper Dejean is on the board, McD might just run the card up himself. -
Marvin Harrison Jr wants to be a Bill
Dr. Who replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
That chart doesn't take into account specific situations. I think a move up from #27 to #10 when you know the target is a QB ought to bring a lot more. If you think it was fine, that's your prerogative. -
Charlie Campbell is supposedly pretty plugged in. His latest mock has the top 3 all gone by pick 6. Then it's a long wait. The next WR is at #28. It's not what I would do. He has the Bills taking Worthy as WR4. Thomas goes #31 to the Niners, and KC takes Mitchell. I would not be happy with that, but at least it isn't DL.

I'll throw a couple of names out for illustration. I'm not going to talk about the DTs, Murphy or Newton. Don't know if they will be there at #28. I'd still rather go WR, but I think they are reasonable late first picks. Newton is better than that, I think. Regardless, backup 3T to Ed Oliver isn't going to make the same impact as WR2. I think Legette is likely to be there at #28. I don't think it's a certainty, though lots of folks are sure he's a late second or thereabouts. Thomas I would be amazed to see there. You have to trade up. Mitchell is a maybe. I don't think he's one of your favorites. I like him. I like McConkey, but l want to focus on Legette. If the choice is Legette or either one of the Robinsons, Legette has a much clearer path to making a difference. He is the kind of receiver that can put fear in the defender, because he can truck you. Yes, a one year, slightly older fella. Otherwise, he's not there for you at #28. Legette is a genuine replacement for Davis, where Samuel is a gadget guy plus. So, I don't see a situation where it is likely the WR sitting there at #28 isn't the most compelling choice, unless you have an agenda and McD wants the first toy for his precious. -
Jeremiah has us taking a DT at 28 in his latest mock
Dr. Who replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think Rapp and Edwards are really equal to even late career Poyer and Hyde, but I don't believe the gulf is immense. They still need to add at S. It's a decent draft to grab one. Assuming they wait till the mid-rounds, I like Tykee Smith and Jaylon Carlies. Hopefully one of them will be there. (I'm not talking about day 2 fellas, but there are some good ones.) I think Beane can probably get someone like Clowney as a post-draft signing. I just don't like most of the early edge players in the draft, especially the ones likely to be there at #28. And since I favor WR, the narrative I tell is aimed in that direction. My belief is we should be a much more dangerous offense with Josh Allen, and if we were, it would make the job of the D easier, because the opposing offense would be forced into more predictable and desperate straits. It wouldn't always happen, and it is always better if you have a ferocious DL. You also have to have access to the players that make that possible. Maybe you think we do, but I am skeptical, and as I said, I want to try a different gambit. I hope you don't feel inclined to answer with red letters. -
Might be correct. Football was almost outlawed when college kids were routinely dying on the field because of its brutality. Doesn't mean that a rule change can't be a mistake. There is a level of violence inherent in the game. We'll see how this plays out. The larger issue is the malleability of the rules to the idiosyncrasies of interpretation by individual referees, and the seemingly arbitrary and inconsistent manner that they are applied. The NFL wanted that close-up of Kelce and Swift celebrating a Super Bowl triumph. Doesn't mean it was scripted, but the vulnerability of the game to the whims of officials is what gives fans the feeling that the narrative can be easily shaped by a call at a propitious moment.

Thanks, I couldn't find much on him, and was curious.

Have you taken a look at Jalen Coker out of Holy Cross by any chance?
-
I think Nabers is an exceptional talent. He might go before MHJ. But this year's first and second, and a fourth, and next year's first and third? That is simply an impossible price to pay. (Just citing the cost speculated by the fella you are responding to.) If you think Thomas is going to grow into WR1, you could try and pay the price to move up to #16. Anything more expensive is reckless and irresponsible.

Mock Draft - Post Combine & First Wave Of FA - Updated On Page 2

Right, my main objection was not so much DT, which honestly I would object to on its own, but trading up to take a DT. -

Worthy is not the fella I want, but I'd hate to see him go to the Chiefs or an AFC East team. If I hate that idea, he must be pretty good. My preference is a big X type, and if not, I am partial to McConkey, who I think is going to be really good, but I am also biased in that assessment. If they go with Worthy, I will be excited to see him stretch the field, and thinking we still better get a big X early day 3. -

I didn't get the impression you were lobbying for him. I think there's a fair chance he could be the selection. -

If Beane moves up to take a DT, a whole lot of folks are going to be rightly irate. -
Well, first the other fella has to sign a consent form.

I just don't see a first round talent there, but he has traits. If Beane goes that way, he better be prepared to trade up from #60 to grab a WR, because there's going to be a run on the position early to mid-second round. How unhappy I would be with that scenario is dependent on who Beane passed on at #28 to select Chop, and who he ultimately takes at WR. I actually have greater confidence in Cooper Dejean or Newton and Murphy being good NFL players, if you are just looking at late first players on D. As I said, I'm not sold on the edge players in this draft. You could make an argument for Latu, if he falls that far. -
This is all true, I think, but I also believe that if Beane does a reasonable job in the draft, and adds a few dust settles post-draft FAs once Tre's 6/1 money kicks in, the team should be very competitive. RB, S, OL, DT, all that can credibly be improved in the draft. It's also a pretty good draft at CB, so you could find some depth mid-rounds. I don't think edge is likely to be improved much, and if they reach, it's a bad sign, imo. WR early is the big ticket item for a lot of us, and I sure hope Beane prioritizes a playmaker there. Then you just have to hope Brady is up to the job, and Josh thrives with him as OC.

The next safety is coming in the draft. -
In college, at least, McConkey lined up on the outside 70% of the time. You can speculate he can't pull that off in the pros, but on the basis of his tape, he's not primarily a slot.
-
I'm an UGA fan. Ladd McConkey is my favorite player in the draft, though I pretty much think a lot of UGA players in this draft are going to be good. But he's not the X I have imagined as a target. All the same, I'm buying his jersey if he's the pick.

I agree he is the better player. The only way I would be okay with it is if we tried to trade up for Thomas and failed, tried to trade up for Mitchell and failed, and did not have a sufficiently high grade on Legette to take him at #28, and then could not trade back into the early second. I would probably just take Legette, if it came to that. But in a vacuum, Newton at #28 would be a steal.
