Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand your reasoning with the Gmen. That is how I would think about it, but a large number of analysts seem to think the Giants are not going to take a qb, so I believe #2 is probably available for the right price. I don't think we are going BPA at twelve. We will take the qb and trade up from #22 if there is someone at lb we really covet. I think it's just as likely we make a small jump from twelve to secure Mayfield, for instance. -

I do think that is a plausible alternative strategy. I am assuming Darnold and Rosen will be gone, but it's possible any one of Mayfield, Allen, or Jackson will be there. If Mayfield drops past five, you could make a smaller deal to move up and grab him or wait for Jackson at twelve (I think he will be there.) -

I think most people know or suspect that, but this board would be really dull today without this thread. I don't think the Cardinals can really match what we can offer without paying ridiculous amounts from future drafts. -

I like Darnold too, in spite of the unorthodox throwing motion and carrying the ball low which makes him prone to fumbling. The latter, I think, you can unlearn and I wouldn't mess with the former, because it works for him. I haven't really considered Darnold, however, because I'm just sure he's going to the Browns at #1 overall. -

I'm not really worried about it. I'm more worried about the rather slight frame and injury concerns. -

Yes, but Kelly is blue-collar Western Pennsylvania. Rosen might come to like it here, but the sensibility gap is considerably greater. -
I don't know anything about these players, but some fellas who seem to know what they are talking about have classified them as poor players. What I meant by desperation, however, was not that it was a move of desperation by OBD, but that a team only plays subpar players when forced to; desperate in that sense. I am fine with signing average players with experience.

It doesn't sound like it is solid OL depth. Bad players with experience are desperation depth.

Dan Patrick: Bills have called Browns about #1 pick
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what I have read, this is not a particularly deep and talented draft. It actually makes sense to pay a premium for the most important position in sports, though I would not want to trade the 2019 1st because that will be a talented draft, especially at DL. -
Mason Rudolph...Big, accurate, mobile.strong
Dr. Who replied to Bustersit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly don't see how, with our draft capital, we get shut out. If there is a run on qb, you can trade up to 7 and grab the fourth qb on your board, which I doubt is Rudolph. You like him more, so the rationale is less problematic for you. That's fine, of course. Maybe he is better than I think, but I will not be amused. -

Nope. Allen and Jackson if you want to take a chance on high ceiling, low floor types. Rudolph at 12 is ridiculous. I don't like him much at all, but if you take him in the first round, you better be taking Roquon Smith at 12 and wait till 22 for your third round level qb. -
Why not give McCarron an honest chance?
Dr. Who replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am okay with this strategy. I am more inclined to make a small trade up in the seven to ten range if it will ensure getting a qb we are particularly interested in. -
Marshall Newhouse visiting Bills
Dr. Who replied to ytownblofan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are we even looking at this fella. I hope the folks have more of a clue when evaluating qb. -
I think that is a plausible guess on Elway. Allen scares me. I think he's unlikely to reach his potential. If he turns out well, this would indeed be a great draft for us.

I don't think any rational front office is going to follow the Jets' lead here. Offer a reasonable deal. Overpay some because qb comes with a premium, but if Gmen want the Jets to set the market, I suspect you have to walk away. -

Thanks. I'm under the impression this isn't a particularly deep draft at oline. Not sure what resources might be needed to get Rosen, but I hope we have something left over to substantially improve RT. (I am also hoping Miller has a resurgent year under a different OC.) -

Ahh, you have the benefit of British TV. They don't carry that on BBC America, alas. Since you seem to have a high opinion of Rosen, do you have any significant concerns about his pocket awareness or durability in general. I'm not really worried about the quirky personality, but the former give me some pause. -
I am temperamentally a melancholic, but I endorse this message.

I just don't see the rationale. Browns and Colts will take a qb. Giants and Broncos might. I kinda doubt the Gmen go qb. You make a small trade up to seven and maybe grab the third qb off the board. Absolutely no reason to get shut out of the qb market and no need to "get fleeced." I suspect we take the top rated lb on the board at 22. I doubt Billy Price makes it out of the second. Vander Esch might go in the first. I like DJ Chark over Kirk, but I'd be happy with either.

All of this is plausible. I don't have your certitude, but I hope it's right. If it is, they have a plan to get to number two or they think their fella will be available in a shorter trade up (say 7 with the Bucs) or at 12.
-
You pass on Watson and Mahomes, trade assets to set yourself up to grab a young potential franchise qb who will be cost controlled for five years and you end up trading possibly a first for Nick Foles? Worst case scenario, they stick at 12 and take Jackson or Allen. Browns and Jets are going qb. Giants might, but probably won't. Dolphins probably will. You'd have to guard against the Cards trading up ahead of you. You might be able to make a trade with the Bucs to grab the third qb taken in the draft.

Unfortunately the draft will probably go like this..
Dr. Who replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they like Jackson, they should be able to get him and retain 22. You get the qb and probably a lb in round one. Not my first choice, but I'd sure like to find a way to get R. Smith. -
Jets just traded with Colts for #3 pick in first round
Dr. Who replied to Hurricane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, it's possible. Maybe the G men don't want to trade with the Jets. Maybe they have an agreement in principle to trade with us. I dunno. I'm not ruling 2 out just yet. -

I think what's not fine about it is the Jets have now most likely increased the cost to get to 2.
