I agree with the Gaines scenario and also the unhappy prognostication. Doubt we see Cousins coming here. Who is your qb under this hypothetical, because I highly doubt it will be Tyrod?

Who was the best QB of the drought?
Dr. Who replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How can anyone read that list and not want to either cry or fall asleep from boredom? -
As you note, unrealistic, but that is one nice draft. As an UGA fan, I feel compelled to point out it is Roquan Smith. Seems to be a hard name to get right.
-
Yeah, if the criteria you have artificially tied yourself to produce a situation where you can't address the most significant position for overall team success, I'd pass on the criteria and think outside that particular box. I do agree that FA will alter priorities. I think we should try and address OL and DL particularly.
-
Umm, I'm not interested in simulations or mocks that entirely ignore the qb position. I doubt OBD will.

Buffalo no longer WR purgatory once TT moves on

Andrew Luck to Bills speculation/chatter
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I think Luck is healthy, I'm trading 21 and 22 all day. Just for comparison, I think Luck is much better than Kirk, he's two years younger than Cousins and his cap hit is going to be millions less than the contract Cousins will get. -
Andrew Luck to Bills speculation/chatter
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he's healthy, which seems to be still very much in question, you absolutely want Luck if Colts are willing to deal. Seems to me they would only be willing, however, if health is going to be an on-going issue. -
Jeopardy Contestants Football Failure
Dr. Who replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watch often. I actually got angry, which is an irrational response, I suppose. But what do you expect? The young fella is like a white Urkel and the other guy a bow-tie wearing English teacher who apparently never heard of Jack Kerouac. Chauvanism, perhaps, but I didn't hold it against the gal for knowing nothing about football. Agreed. He's the best. -
Arians: Best QB Class In 15-20 Years

The sum is less than the parts. It might change, but odds are against it. -
I agree that the oline is important and I would expect it to be addressed in FA and the draft. OTOH, Groy did play well when he filled in for Wood in 2016 and Miller may rebound if they change to a blocking scheme more suited to his abilities. I surmise some of the draft capital is needed to move up for that new Qb unless Cousins is coming here. (We could probably stick at #21 and take Rudolph. I think he'll be there, but I don't like him.)

Hate to say it...Tyrod will be back
Dr. Who replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Highly doubtful he will be back -- and high doubtful someone who starts with "hate to say it" actually does. -
Of course, one can simply deny the premise of the question. You're not forced to choose between Bradford or Smith. Get a wily vet who shakes loose for cheap and move up to get a potential franchise qb that could plausibly start (Mayfield, for example.)

Reply to (a) If sooner is not sometime in the first three games, you're likely going to be disappointed in your investment.
-
I am not a fan of Smith, but I think you have to choose him by default because Bradford is made of glass.

Have you ever been less excited for a SB?
Dr. Who replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're prevaricating on the first declaration, goading with the second. Lots of folks round here don't credit the double-dipping dynasty with victories free of cheating and blatant ref bias. Naturally, the bandwagon Pats* fans dismiss grumbling as envy, but I surmise much of the NFL ratings decline is due more to general disgust with obvious inequity than changes in viewing platforms or outrage over the anthem, etc. But have fun watching your team vs. the city that booed Santa Clause. Nice lot the both of you. -
Tanner Lee is a dark horse QB to keep an eye on
Dr. Who replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't Kyle Lauletta be a more plausible fella insofar as Senior Bowl success might actually improve his draft stock? But OP is a provocateur and not really serious, so all this is besides the point. -
If I'm reading the OP correctly, Plan B is the only one I'm interested in. 25 years is a long enough wait for a true franchise qb. We have the draft capital. If it costs a lot, it costs a lot. I don't believe it can't be done and one has to realistically entertain plausible alternatives. But folks want to fill a roster and kick the qb can down the road yet again. I call that Plan D(oomed).

Thanks. Very clear and helpful.

I really don't understand how the cap works. Though I realize we still have a cap hit for Dareus, by my naive way of looking at things if you trade a player, the other team should have to assume his contract/cap hit. Not sure why that isn't so, though I know there are trades where a team retains some of the salary just to get rid of a fella.
-
I'm not an expert on that sort of thing. What I've read is if they wait for a June 1st designation, it's around 8.25 million for next year and around 2.5 million the year after. They could choose to take the full hit this year which would be around eleven million.
-
If he's healthy, I don't see why you wouldn't keep him. Glenn and Dawkins would give you two above average tackles. If he can pass a physical and we don't think he can stay healthy, I can see using him as leverage to move up and get a franchise qb, though I don't know how much trade value he would have if teams are not convinced he can avoid nagging injury. Maybe I'm out of the loop on Zo. I haven't heard anything about him being likely gone, but the unexpected cap hit from Wood being forced to retire may require cutting a few folks loose that otherwise might have stayed.

Eric Wood has career-ending neck injury; will retire
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I rather think that the internet has simply made glaringly evident the deeply flawed nature of human beings. I agree, of course, with the umbrage taken at a superficial selfishness that is unable to acknowledge with gratitude both the achievement of Eric Wood and his safely walking away from the sport.
