So you think Josh Allen is Joe Flacco ?
-
Seems a lot of folks relied on "the usual suspects" and came away with a false impression about Allen. I grew increasingly in favor of Allen as the draft approached, but I now believe Allen's floor is somewhat higher than I imagined. He's a good choice and your enthusiasm is nice to see, though I believe there is medication out there for schizophrenia

Oline could be just as bad as you fear. If it appears to be that awful, I hope they redshirt Allen. OTOH, Beane willingly traded Glenn and offered Madman Incognito a take it or leave it contract. Wood is the only entirely unpremeditated loss. So, I infer the coaching staff has a higher opinion of the overall quality of the line than most fans do. Hopefully, they have some warrant for greater implicit optimism.

Thanks to the OP for considerable effort and an interesting argument. I would echo Shaw's observation: one wonders why the EP isn't universally adopted if it is truly superior in the manner discussed. My view is that the offense last year was not very good, so it does not require tremendous improvement to at least equal last year's production. I do think the defense has more suitable talent, so overall the team may be better. The schedule is front-loaded with difficult away games, so I don't know how it will all play out record-wise.

He's from Firebaugh, CA. -
I also figure older rbs have blitz pickups and blocking responsibilities down pretty well.

Ah, he's 29 yrs old. Might be a tad young

Gregg Rosenthal: AFC East Projected Starters

He keeps promising, but the pain never actually fades away. For no particular rational reason, I am hoping McDermott is a good surprise at RT. -
Do we have the worst QB situation in the league?
Dr. Who replied to Seanbillsfan2206's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Equivocity of key terms is what is causing some confusion. It is also why the argument often leads to folks talking past one another. Imo, worst most accurately implies a judgment based on performance. No doubt, optimists are projecting based on potential. Pessimists are also projecting (in Allen's case, they are interpreting college data without allowing for a context that could plausibly admit more promise.) I think it is more correct to say the Bills have one of the most unclear qb situations; because of that, one has the equivalent of an inkblot test where individuals largely see what they are temperamentally inclined to see. -
RUMOR: (no source) Dez Bryant to visit Bills on Monday 5/7

I wonder what constitutes "bargain-basement price." Badolbilz analysis seems cogent to me, so it would have to be an awfully good bargain, imo. -
I don't think having a bad personality is a superficial issue, but if you're a superior player, teams learn to deal with it. A good fella that can't play isn't preferable to a jerk who can. I honestly don't think the current regime passed on Rosen for Allen bacause they think the latter is a more pleasing character to hang out with. My guess is they think his mechanical issues are very likely fixable. They may even think he is the best future NFL qb and we were lucky his surrounding cast in 2017 was so bad it masked his ability somewhat. That is the happy scenario and I'm going with it. If they allowed charisma to be the defining issue, they are not good football minds. At this point, I have no reason to think they are foolish. Further, it seems the football folks tend to like Allen, while bloggers and analytic nerds prefer Rosen. We'll see how it plays out.

You're welcome to your opinion. I thought he came across as petulant and entitled. He did not fall into the twenties like Aaron Rodgers. A team traded up for him and he went in the top ten, yet he thought he would have to fake a happy face. Cry me a river. Whether durability worries, personality, or a combination of the two, clearly teams had some genuine concerns with Rosen. Further, they may also have thought more highly of less polished fellas with potentially higher upsides. I had Rosen fourth out of four, so I'm not sad we passed on him. Perhaps he turns out to be a superior player, but I think he has a Jay Cutler vibe that I don't particularly like.

Well, the ones that don't agree with him can't possibly be experts -
I don't mind cantankerous when it's also honest. Journalists with integrity are rare nowadays. Have a great b-day.

Good to hear from you, Soda. Excellent point.

Why the Allen project may be different
Dr. Who replied to Batman1876's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or maybe he started out in h.s. as an average sized fella from a tiny, obscure farm town playing for a tiny, obscure team. Then he grew seven inches, put on muscle, but was still a raw talent with no history of good coaching performing in elite programs, so he had to go the juco route and then play for Wyoming. It is a positive in the sense that one can make a plausible case for why their is a gap between innate talent and his current state of development. Well, that particular coach speaks highly of Allen, though folks who don't like Allen will dismiss it as propoganda. Not sure how much a head coach has to do with qb development, but at minimum Allen has been exposed to a pro-style system. -
Rumour: Rosen and Mayfield were off the Bills' Board
Dr. Who replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The traditional way also should open up space for the running game. Well, I don't disagree really, but I don't think the vertical passing game is a completely obsolete dinosaur. Ideally, one has a mix of both. -
Subtracting one of the few playmakers on offense is a poor idea.

Everything I have read indicates that Rosen is pretty tough. His problem is that he lacks pocket awareness and escapability when pressure comes. He takes a lot of hits and incurs injuries. He also has a prickly personality, though I am unsure if that is really an issue.
