He is only 27 doesn’t turn 28 until November. Center can usually play well into their mid 30s. A 3 year extension seems reasonable and takes him through his prime years
-
Unless there is a guy they love I think they are done at Saftey. They have 5 guys already. Rapp Bishop Hamlin Lewis Forrest at corner you have: Benford johnson jackson Ingraham coddington It’s doubtful they keep more than 11 in the secondary. One early CB pick and then a later pick at CB to compete with Ingram for the last spot
-
Doubtful he makes the team but seems like he can compete for that last roster spot and also provide special teams value. Likely a guy they could keep on PS. his first 2 years were decent: 58 catches 600 yards 63 catches 619 yards then gets traded to the panthers and gets: 27 catches for 272 yards in 13 games then the last 2 years only had 10 catches (on 10 targets) and 5 catches. Did have some return yards those years but just completely fell off.

I think this greatly increases the odds of a WR high in the draft. Based on their contracts it seems like we have 6 locks for the dline groot bosa hoecht oliver ogunjobi jones likely not ready to give up on yet Solomon carter epenesa that leave room for 1 dlineman to make the roster. Now if 2 guys are there early they love they could certainly take them but I see a likely pick at 1T and then the other 2 early picks CB and WR
-
Could certainly roster 2 more but generally we only keep 5
-
We are likely going to carry 10 dlineman. 5DT and 5DE. With the signing yesterday I think we are probably done with vet dline unless we can make a trade from Hendrickson. We will likely sign a vet DT and then draft a DE and DT early. I wouldn’t be surprised with a 1 year deal for Calais Campbell. DE: draft pick epenesa solomon 3T: oliver Campbell carter 1T: jones draft pick DE: Groot hoecht use test of FA for corner and saftey

So if you didn’t sign those 2 and signed DK what are you doing at MLB and DE. Minimum type players? I would rather go with what we have at wr and add a guy like Palmer and a draft pick and actually spend out money on defense. Getting ride of those guys to sign their replacement isn’t making us better -
DK Metcalf traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers

I wanted metcalf and the 2nd round pick is a not a problem but giving him 33 million a season is a bit much for his production. I also really don’t like a 5 year deal that take him to 32 years old and his game his not one that would translate once he starts to decline physically. -

Groot and Benford are the clearly the 2 best players on defense. Followed probably by Bernard and Oliver. So we have locked up 3 of our 4 best players on that side of the ball. Rather than letting these 4 guys walk and trying to replace them we should be focused on replacing the guys that worst players. We will have the cap space and will continue to have the space to sign our good players and bring in guys through FA and the draft. -

That’s where we disagree. I feel he is already an above average defensive end that is 24 years old and ascending. He played 1 year in college. Hendrickson in is first 4 years before signing his deal with cincy had 20 sacks. Groot in his first 4 years has 25. He is an elite run defender gets a lot of pressure. -

I am really not understanding the hate on this deal. It feel like people are living in the mid 2000s cap era . We have him locked up for 5 more years until his age 29 season for an average of 18.6 million a year. Within the next year or two the top tier guys are going to be in the 35-40 million a year range with the current and future cap. Most of these guys will also be in their late 20s or early 30s. Having a guy like up for his prime at half that number seems pretty good -

For all those saying you don’t like this and want to move on that’s not how you get better. You keep good players and add more around them. Moving on from groot to get Hendrickson you are improving but not drastically. Keep king groot and trading for Hendrickson or signing sweat while moving on from epenesa or miller is how you actually get over the hump. -

You could easily make it work. Between groot von and epenesa they were scheduled to have cap hits combined of 33 million. Griots extension probably frees up 8-9 million. If von takes a pay cut that is another 7-8 million and then trade or release epenesa gets you another 3.5. So just the savings you get for DE this year through those moves can give you almost 20 million for a guy like Hendrickson or sweat
