Tom Daschle considers bid for president
Chilly replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think you're comparing apples and oranges between these two elections. US politics is candidate-driven, not issue driven like in other countries, so the candidates become the core of the issue. The US primary system is heavily paritsan driven - in many places anyone thats not a partisan doesn't get a chance to have a say. This means that since the primary is relatively low turnout, it takes an energizing candidate that many people are passionate for if its going to be an obvious win. In 2004, there really wasn't any such candidate. No, Howard Dean isn't one. However, in the 2008 primaries, there IS such a candidate, and that is Hillary. The people that support her will turnout at the primaries at a much higher rate then a candidate who people are less passionate about in the party. Unless some big things change, its gonna happen. I haven't seen any latest polls, but I actually don't think its going to hurt her too much. The people that love her, love her, and the people that hate her, hate her. It will in the general election, but I don't know about the primaries. Don't take any credit away from the Bush campaign team - they're damn good at what they do. But it won't happen due to the nature of the primary system. -
You can cross off Caldwell as HC...

Yeah, because its so insulting that Lofton only filled the Rooney rule requirement. -

The Bills already interviewed James Lofton, minority candidate. EDIT: I hate you Jamie. -

Hillary will win the nomination. http://www.pollingreport.com/WH08dem.htm Not only that, but she will snatch up all the good democratic too when she declares and starts putting together a staff. I think that the *only* way someone has a shot at usurping her is if they declared for the primaries way early, and took some good strategists with them, similar to the way Bush did it in 99 by declaring so early. -
The issue becomes, though, what if the people that the US did these wiretaps on had no contact with foreign persons, as the lawsuits alledge?

Examples please. How bout the fact that African Americans tend to be scrambling type quarterbacks, and the NFL for most of its existence (until recently) has preferred pocket passers? Easily. Being a good player doesn't mean that you will be a good coach. And just because one black coach has had success, doesn't mean that all black coaches will have success. That, my friend, also fits the dictionary's definition of racism. Example: Ray Rhodes Yeah, because everyone thought that there was a better candidate then Mooch at the time. Especially Detroit. What, exactly, is so "statistically wrong" about the racial demographic of the current NFL? -

This is swiftly for them. Remember, they aren't good at their jobs because they are old. -
Ah, I finally found the article. I thought I had thrown the paper out, but I still have it. :-) The article is by Bob Herbert, and its entitled "Who Will Stand Up for the Constitution?" The first part of the article is just outlining what the NSA did, but the meat of the column is when he starts talking about why the president did it. I'll type some of it out for you here: I don't really think these allegations hold merit, given the source that its coming from. However, the revelation that the NSA was spying on so much stuff is rather interesting. The conspiracy theorist and bored person in me hopes that its true, just for the entertainment value of the situation.

Jim Caldwell is a minority, and the Bills are going to interview him according to the AP, even after interviewing Lofton. These minority candidates sure are getting the shaft. -
That might not be a bad interview at all given his merits.

Interesting. How long has he been with Dungy?

You seriously seem to have a great grasp of the situation as well, since you know 100% for sure that its race. I guess you must have sat in on their interviews and on the team's deliberations about head coaches. Read nodnarb's post, it expalins pretty much everything. So did Bill Belichek and a bunch of other coaches. -

I'm sure that the only reason why this is happening is race. -
So, you think that what you don't think is funny is actually funny?

Yeah, thats why I didn't post the link. I pay 6 bucks a month for daily delivery. <3 student rates.

Oh right, the fact that they might be not only a better interview, but also have prior experience has nothing to do with that fact. Its all because they aren't white. -

Out of those coaches, only Henderson or Rivera are decent candidates, and I don't think that any team (besides maybe the Packers) didn't take who they thought was the best man for the job. The Packers were asleep when they decided on a coach I think. -

I'd like to see Bates on the defensive side of the ball, because he worked with Sherman before and he's a damn good D coordinator. A quick note as well from Bates' bio: It doesn't talk about last year, in which Bates took a 25th ranked defense, and despite losing Darren Sharper, finished 7th in the league this year. On the offensive side of things, Tice and Martz are both headcases and I'd hate to have them as my OC. I'm not so sure that I like Heimerdinger's brand of offense, either. Here's a bit about his style from his bio: I'm not sure that is what this team needs right now, especially if we lose Eric Moulds. The guy that I would like to see come in as o coordinator if the Raiders let him go is Jimmy Raye. Raye always seems to strike a good balance between passing and running, and imo a balanced attack is huge. He's a smart offensive coordinator who has had success with the Redskin team of 2001 and with the Jets.
