Epenesa, Ford & Moss -Are they outta here?

Not only that, he was the second safety selected. He also had a domestic incident while at training camp, was a holdout, and collected approx. 36 million dollars in salary, all in real cap dollars. I heard Levy say on the Sirius NFL Channel that he turned down "numerous trade offers" for that pick. Sad but true. -

You two should do a virtual hand shake. The truth is if this "poll" was to include questions on who the best and most knowledgeable posters are, both of you would be right at or around the top. The 2 of you are a VERY big part of what makes this board so good. Sorry to butt in as a self appointed mediator here lol. Jmo.

Epenesa, Ford & Moss -Are they outta here?
Bill from NYC replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, I knew that these picks (McKelvin and Whitner to name 2) were mistakes the day they were made mand it was easy to figure for me. And of course, I am not a scout, coach or GM. A 12 year old kid with a copy of Joel Buchbaum's Pro Football Weekly could draft better than Levy/Jauron. Remember, this thread went in the direction of people being over critical of the Bills and those being total "homers." My response was in that context, and I'm sorry if I was a bit short. -

I did say “partially.” Is that ok or should I completely view this, and perhaps all things the way you do? -

I judge draft selections partially by looking at who a team passed up in order to select a certain player. In 2006, the draft was loaded with talented players at positions at which we were weak. Another GREAT example would be the McKelvin pick. Iirc, 2 of the next 3 picks were excellent offensive linemen and our line sucked at the time. No, we had to pass them up for a corner. 😟 Tough times Bro! -

I don't like to call posters out by name but as far as Jauron, there was one poster who defended him for years. He is either gone or has changed his screen name. The Whitner pick? MANY posters defended this pick, stating that he was "good;" as if this justified the selection. -

Badol is a friend, and I will defend friends when I deem it appropriate to do so. Btw, nowhere in my post did I say that Beane was a bad GM. My point was that if he is credited with the good selections, who shoud take responsibility for the bad ones? And for all I know, Ford might turn out to be a very good player some day. That was not my point. Discussions would be boring if everybody agreed on every issue, and those that do so on this board have been proven wrong more often than not. There are still folks who claim that Donte Whitner was a solid draft pick and that Dick Jauron was a good coach, and that is great. It is their opinion! I for one prefer and appreciate realism over blind loyalty, but that's just me. -

Well, if this is true who SHOULD the "pessimists" blame? Things happen. It isn't always the fault of the coach and GM when things go bad. Did the Raiders GM know what Ruggs was going to do? Of course not but the GM does bear the ultimate responsibility for his draft selections. If we are to give Beane credit for selections like Josh Allen, must he not also take the blame for a pick such as Ford? And I will take their backs by saying that these posters (especially @BADOLBILZ) are far more realistic than pessimistic. -
Not sure how much they are "floundering." I don't know, maybe they are but I saw what Sarkisian did at Alabama and he really did a tremendous job. If I recall, he was even very helpful in recruiting Bryce Young. I have missed on many QBs (not Josh Allen lol) so I am probably dead wrong, but; I fail to see anything special in Manning. In fact, I did not want the Tide to sign him. They already have 3 qbs who I consider very solid. The kid that I am really interested in is Ryan Downes at IMG because there is a slight family connection. The kid is huge and brilliant. He is an incoming sophmore and I'm really looking forward to see what he can do.

Agreed. I once heard Skip talk bad about Nick Saban. He called him a poor defensive coach. -

Thanks for a good thread. My $.02: 1) I think that you underrate Brady. He does not, and never did have Josh Allen talent, but he is a genius with great accuracy. He is SO great that he (a relatively normal human) is still able to compete with and defeat the genetic mutants in the NFL, this at 45 (or however old he is). 2) I would not put OJ in the same class as Brown (of course, jmo). Brown was before my time but he was a big back for his era with great moves, breakaway speed, and super strength. He would take on the biggest, meanest defenders, run over them, and then run past the rest of them for TDs. One thing that I learned after decades of watching football is that when a great player loses as little as a half step, he usually turns into a good player (this rule doesn't apply as much to QBs). Brown retired in his prime, but the brutal contact was probably about to take it's toll. This meant that he was dominant for his entire career. 3) People mention Sanders and he was great no doubt, but he was not physically imposing. Also, his team being awful would seem to somehow fit into your equation. Opposing players were often afraid of Jim Brown. Ultimately, my vote would reluctantly go to Brady, mainly because of the wins, and of course the fact that he is still winning against some of the fastest, strongest men in the world, many of whom are half his age. That said, Jim Brown would be a close second and Lawrence Taylor would certainly deserve some mention in my top 5. Again, good thread, and the above is jmo.

Josh Allen is Rob Johnson's doppelgänger
Bill from NYC replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
PERFECT post! When Johnson was in college, I only saw him play 1 game and he was amazing. I couldn't believe that he lasted until round 4. Couldn't believe it!!! Then, when sports bars with Directv were pretty new, I saw him play 1 game for Jax and he was unstoppable. He only had a couple of incompletions and was throwing accurate darts and bullets. Iirc, he did get injured late in the game. When the Bills traded for him I was delighted. So was Wade, who called it the beginning of the Rob Johnson era. Flutie was even recorded talking to another QB saying that he was very good and "smart." RJ had all the talent that he needed and then some. I waited for years for him to come around. The last time I saw him play was after partying with you and the Lot 1 Pole 5 crowd when he was a Redskin. Schobel sacked him a couple of times with brutal hits to the point that I thought he might suffer a very serious injury. I really wish that he had a head for the game. His talent was legit. I remember when he competed in the old "Superstars" show. He was in first place until he choked at the very end.
