1. Agreed, what a tremendous selection!

The draft interests me more and more these days, and picks like this are the reason why. Mr. Butler impressed me with Cowart, Holecek (round 5) and Covington. All of them would have been great imo if not for the injuries. :w00t:

Also, what was Ron Edwards, a 7th rounder?

I am still waiting for someone to tell me how Pat Williams was not drafted.

  2. I agree - they have sucked.

The fact that the 49ers suck so much probably doesn't help though.  Unless anybody spent 3 hours watching the first Jags-Texans game in October, I guess there isn't much to talk about.

If the 49ers lose, do they secure the 1st pick in the 05 draft?

  3. Bill-

Drew's 39447 passing yards to date position him as the 10th most productive paser in the history of the game. The three names immediately in front of him are Unites, Montana, and Fouts. I believe most objective football fans would consider that some rarified air. Here's a link-

My mistake. He is 18th in touchdown passes, and I got confused. :P:D

  4. Sharp thinking has no place at TSW. The Sacred Cow must never be critisized, not even by a Coach who developed Ken Anderson, Joe Montana, Boomer Esiason and more.

Bledsoe should be the QB at present, while we continue to win. No question. Still, I'm NOT blind to his long list of shortcomings as a QB. He has made some solid throws over the last few weeks, against average to bad teams who were very beatable. He has also dropped his arm down to the point where he is sidearming most balls and making multiple throws behind the receiver. In closer games, against actual quality opponents, that will kill us. Wyche must be beside himself, watching DB's mechanics, which are inconsistent and poor. He has every right to be concerned, since he knows that will eventually come back to beat us.

Winning on the road in the Playoffs, against higher quality opponenets, is a whole different animal. How much longer can the Defense and Special teams make numerous big plays to win us the game ? A good opposing Defense, at home, sticks 8 in the box and stops the running game. So it's up to Bledsoe to get those LB's and Safties off the line of scrimmage by beating them. A bit of mobility comes

into play more than ever. So does making quicker reads, showing some touch on the short passes and locating a secondary receiver.  He has yet to show he can beat it in 2 + YEARS !

He wasn't drafted and paid well to ride the bench for 2 + years. Bledsoe will eventually cost us some wins in close games and the change will happen.

I do NOT hate DB but can clearly see his entire game and what he has to offer as a starting QB. Blinders off.

    >>>Be it early on or later, I see Losman taking over as our starter in 2005.<<<

I guess this depends a little bit on whether or not JP is capable of being an NFL qb.-_-

Drew is capable. This is why only 17 humans have thrown for more yards in NFL history.

  5. Are you coming to the Pitt game? I'm pretty sure we're coming up early and will be in Lot 1...

I wish, but I certainly would not get "permission" to go. If the Bills have a home playoff game (and I dont even know if this is possible), I would make my odds close to even.

  6. Bill, when you put things this "new" way re: Travis it's much easier to understand your points. As much as I like the guy I really can't disagree with much that you say about him. I did feel (or see) that at times he made devastating blocks against blitzers but it was very much a hit or miss situation. I still think that if there is a chance of him staying in line from a team aspect, that we would benefit from keeping him around as Willis's backup.

Lori is a friend for several years. I met her through tailgating in Lot 1/Pole 5. She told me that at times, I sound quite "brusque" on TBD" There is no reason to doubt someone this intelligent.

I have a feeling that you and I would understand each other better in person. If nothing else, I am down to earth.

Yes, I too have seen some smashing blocks, but he misses more often than not and as I said, Bledsoe too has his limitations. The Bills offense does not lend itself to pass rushers speeding unobstructed toward our QB, who is not mobile.

  7. Henry will get the Bills at least a 2nd rounder, possibly even a conditional 1st depending on how he does next year.  With the Colts looking to franchise Edge and RW not coming back, the only other top RB is Alexander.  There is a big market for good RB's this coming year, and Henry will be in-demand because of his productivity, age, and salary.  Anything lower and he's not going anywhere.

    173072

I think that next year wont matter in terms of trade value because his contract expires after 05.

If this is true, does it change your mind about his value after this season?

  8. Please excuse my misread. I'd hate to see some of the great bets that we'd had over time lost because of opportunistic Trolls. The forum lends itself to that type of interaction between Bill's fans and our guests here from other teams when both parties are contributive. I can appreciate your issue with the timing.

    173064

Never mind Bro. I would however like to see you chime in on this thread. Do you think that Henry will be here in 05 under any conditions?

  9. There's hardly any "disaster", what there is is an attempt by a Troll to take advantage of the August data situation by lying about some bet he offered that was never accepted and another Troll to follow his lead. I have no problem with any other poster who feels they would stand by while a Pat's Troll lies about the record and adds in the garbage about "leaving the poor Children's Charity" unfounded, but that's hardly something this poster will sit back and allow. You might not like it, but let me remind you that YOU'RE not the one they've spread the lies about. I've asked that the record be reviewed. I trust it's being taken care of.

AKC, certainly you do not think that I was attacking you, nor taking the side of these people against you, right? You and I go back many years, and I think as much of your posts as anybody on the board.

I merely though that making a "bet" today would be a bad idea after yesterday.

This aside, I am sorry that my post was such that it lent itself to be misinterpreted.

    My mistake.

  10. Bill, I agree that he was just awful this year. I know he blew a pair of calls in a new offense(one of them a difficult trickplay) but my biggest problem with him was his regression in blitz pick-up. If he can put back on some of the weight he took off, I think it would go a long ways towards solving that problem. And if he "can" solve that problem, I have no problem with him serving as Willis' experienced back-up for next year.

Could you stomach him in that role or do you just want him out of here post haste?

My friend, I want to be delicate here because I was rightly accused of being too harsh and even personal with my comments on Travis.....

I dont think the weight is the issue wrt his lack of blocking. Thurman weighed at least 20 pounds less and could stand guys up as a pass blocker. Again, imo, Henry either doesn't want to block, or he cannot figure out how nor who to block. Perhaps a combination of both but neither of these possibilities are good for the Bills.

Although I still like Drew as a QB, I cannot admit fast enough that he has more needs than other qbs. He needs a burner at wr. This is proven. He needs a good pocket. This is proven. The games starting with Ariz. has imo also proved that he needs a back who can pick up the blitz. Teams come after him. If he is protected, he CAN throw bombs to Evans, etc.

I would rather see if a 5th or so could be salvaged. Maybe TD could use it to scoot around the draft and find a RB that he covets....one who is more suited to this football team.

Just my $.02, and thanks for the great conversation.

  11. 'cuz a 3-4th round draftpick has about a 30% chance of panning out, while Travis' history tells us he has about a 90% chance of being a dynamite back-up.

I just don't see the value of a pick that mayormaynot work out being as great as the value of a back who you know is going to work out, particularly when you intend to make a run at the big prize. The upside is minimal while the downside could be crushing.

Simon, after the "betting" disaster yesterday, I think an internet wager is a bad idea, so let me just say that as a Bills fan, I have never been as certain of a personnel move as I am with this one, SO.....here is my open declaration:

If Travis Henry is on the Buffalo Bills roster to start the 05 season, I will buy you the beer of your choice, and publically proclaim on TSW that I know nothing about football.

If he is not, you owe me absolutely nothing. OK?

The choice will be a banged up, limited player vs. approx. 1 mil cap space and perhaps a draft choice.

That sir, represents NO choice (in my respectful opinion).

  12. >>>When he's healthy Henry is easily a top 10 running back in this league<<<

Not even close. Although he is a strong runner, he might truly be the most limited running back I have ever seen. He cannot block, cannot catch, is mentally challenged, lacks breakaway speed, and falls down (sometimes untouched) on critical plays.

Imo, a huge chunk of the reason for the Bills winning streak was getting Travis Henry off of the football field.

Posters come here and complain about the won-loss records of Bledsoe and TD, and for valid reasons. With Henry as the starter, the Bills are consistent losers. A poster stated that Bledsoe was sacked 21 (out of his total of 31) times in games that Henry started. Do you think that GMs will turn their backs on this and give us MORE than teams paid for Dillon and Faulk?

If the Bills can get a 4th round pick for Henry, they would be very lucky.

As for getting another back, I think the draft is the way to go. A quality backup RB can almost certainly be found in later rounds.

On a final note, if you are looking for a scapegoat for the Bills having to struggle for a playoff spot, look no further than Henry sliding on his ass on critical plays and missing key blocks.

  13. I agree with your post. Imo, Bledsoe, especially taking the weather into account (since the ariz. game) is playing well both actually and statistically.

As for Harvey's point about the TE thing, here is my take.....

The Buffalo Bills TE situation almost mirrors that of their offensive line. Both have been horrid for 9 or 10 years. Imo, Pete Metz was the most unappreciated Bill since I have been a Bills fan.

Not only did he block like an OT, he was murder in the red zone. He would run those end zone patterns and just turn around. He was SO big and wide, Kelly would just heave a fastball to the upper middle of his body, and Pete would catch the football in his hands with his elbows out. How does one defend this????

Since then, we have suffered through Lonnie, Riemersma, and other horror shows. Finally, we get production from 2 football players at TE and they are both hurt. This sucks, but we must play around it.

Btw, I like Euhus, and think that McNally will help him learn to block. He can already catch and run nice patterns.

The Bills are, and will continue to be an interesting football team.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
