The Prince of the City was a great flick.
I am told that in real life, the main character was a scumbag rat, and a thief who got caught, but the movie was great.
PS: Another fantastic NYC movie was Midnight Cowboy. Sorry, but NYC flicks are great.

I am not saying that PW will definitely be gone, but I think that he will. I am not totally sure that both Bannon and Anderson will return.
If PW leaves, and there is a DT out there that TD likes, I would not be at all surprised to see him take one in the 3rd or 4th round.
I still forsee us taking a cb with our first selection.
-
If this is true, it is probably due to coaching.
I am a HUGE fan of Wade as a DC. He forgot more than Gray knows at this stage of his career.
As for the talent I agree that Bruce was a difference maker, but so is Takeo (to a lesser degree of course) imo, and our secondary is now clearly superior.

Look folks are talking about this because AZ and TD have donethe same thing which is to give both TH and Shelton the right to seek a deal.
The positions the players play make sense for both teams as the Bills stand to lose an LT to FA and because the starting RB at AZ has retired.
The cap exchange makes sense because both Shelton and TH are under contract in '05 and for whatever reason AZ has decided they can handle the accelerated bonus of Shelton on their cap.
Does this trade make sense for either or both teams? Yes, if they feel they get approrpiate value in exchange.
I think most Bills fans would happily see TD give up some future draft choices in addition to TH in order to get this deal done. In order to get this deal the key thing for TD to do right now is to sing Henry's praises and pump up his value.
I would think even those who judge TH to be dreck would endorse this strategy merely as a mechanism to get rid of Henry.
I have no problem with us singing TH's praises and us giving up some speculative future draft picks to get a recent starting LT at a cost of $3 million per year. I don't see why any Bills fan would have a problem with this.
Is this a good deal for AZ? I hope they think so.
The biggest question I would have about TH is that he has been hurt a number of times in his brief career. The good news is that when he got a fracture before he showed great toughness in playing through it and still being productive for the Bills.
It appears that any injury problems he had last year and his failure to produce through the injury or at a starter RB level at all last year may have had as much to do with the Bills obviously having given up on him for WM.
Fan complaints on TSW that he can't catch or blitz-pick-up are fortunately ignored for the most part as the usual fan blathering and do not seem to be real life problems in TH's game anyway since he caught over 40 passes in his second season when Killdrive used him as a receiver and blitz pick-up issues were not a complaint about Henry at all the last two years until folks began looking for reasons to call for WM (who like any young RB had his own blitz pick-up adventures earlier this season). As the season went on the Bledsoe's sack numbers went down but WM blitz pick-up expertise did not appear to be the main or much at all of the reason for the drop in sack numbers. i think the drop in QB sacks came because:
1. WM does get a lot of credit for the drop in sacks but rather than his skill at blitz pickup or a TH problem in this area, WM simply showed a great ability to run wide and to use the stiff-arm effectively blitzers had to hesitate a second to make sure that WM wasn't running wide while with TH they would simply come as they were likely to fill a hole if he was running up the middle or if he did go wide if TH hesistated at all they could catch him in pursuit while WM might be gone. This issue speaks more to the strengths of WM rather than a particular problem with Henry as his two years of great production as a runner are not lessened by him not being as good as WM.
2. The OL did get a lot better having JMac coaching instead of Vinky and Ruel. This was a far larger cause of the lower sack #s than any blitz pick-up issues.
3. Clements ran a far better offense than Killdrive. Clements even made great use of Bledsoe as a runner on plays such as the fake QB sneak and the pitch to WM for a TD and a few QB draws by Bledsoe. Clements realized that just because Bledsoe is not a good runner, this doesn't mean you never run him at all. The threat of Bledsoe puicking up 6 yards or so on a 2nd and 10 took away this down as a definite blitz down for the LBs.
I think the complaints about TH as a pass catcher stem from some definite drops by him on a few plays last year, but again the drops happen to all players and was never an extraordinary issue as they were with a player like Reed and the complaints like the run blitz issue seem overblown to me.
Nonsense. Look at the Bills W/L record with Henry as a starter. Bledsoe was sacked well over 100 times in his first 2 seasons. This number would have been smaller if TH was smart enough or even cared enough to pick up blitzers but he isn't and he doesn't.
When TH was rushing for good numbers he was fumbling the football away to opponents of the Buffalo Bills. He cost us Drew's very first game in Buffalo vs the jests.
The only thing he ever did well was run. He sucks at every other phase of football and last year he couldn't even do that, whereas he was sliding on his ass in front of gaping holes.
FFs, your expectations are WAY too high in terms of what compensation we will receive for this bumbling clod. WAY to high.

I am thinking that DE is one of the last positions that TD will pursue. We are young and even deep at this position, and DEs cost almost as much as LTs.

I love that movie LA, from start to finish. In a trivia note, the opening scene was shot in one take!
My daughter wrote a paper about it in college and got an A. It seems that she feels that the movie was a major setback for hispanic women because they are portrayed as sex fiends. Maid in Manhattan didn't sit too well with her either.
The kid is a little serious, you know?

I'll ask again, what moral issue is the left forcing you to do? Are you or your family being forced to have an abortion? Are you or your family being forced to use birth control? Are you, your family, or your chuch being forced to participate in a gay marriage? Is your marriage so weak that it would be adversely affected by the actions of others? I thought conservatives believed in less government interference in our private lives, not more. Live your life as you want, but don't restrict others to have to live your life.
Thr Religious Right is very similar to the Religious Left. The difference is that Liberalism is the religion of the left.
>>>>Live your life as you want, but don't restrict others to have to live your life.<<<
Now, this is YOUR quote. You wanna tell me just one more time how it is OK to strip away the rights of bar owners in every "liberal" state by the smoking ban?
Animal rights groups (who favor abortion in their platform btw) consider it murder to eat a cheeseburger. They are going after McDonalds and blaming THEM for "obesity." In NYC, there are currently hearings to ban bells on ice cream trucks.
Sorry, todays radical leftists are an overbearing bunch with absolutely zero tolerance for dissent. Look at any campus and you will find leftist intolerance of speech that they disagree with. You can pin this on the religious right alone as you will, but you are flat out wrong.
I recommend reading "Slouching Toward Gommorrah" by Judge Bork for a great description of the radical left.

I know you don't like Henry, Bill, but what course of action would you have suggested? Pulling the starter who had rushed for 2600 yards the past two seasons for essentially a rookie with an unproven record and a bad injury, to boot?
Hindsight is 20/20, and while I certainly would like to have seen McGahee more involved (I do think the coaches didn't know how to use Mcgahee early on) I cannot see them having outright handed the job to McGahee without a near-mutiny. The job changed hands in the best way possible -- Henry went down, McGahee got his chance and filled in, and upon his return, Travis didn't perform to expectations. McGahee clearly won the job from then out. I am not saying this was the path to winning the most football games, but it was the path to the coaches' earning the respect of the players at a crucial point in Mularkey's rookie campaign.
Thank you for such a well thought, sensible reply. Posts such as this are part of what makes TSW such a great place.
It IS hard to dispute what you say. However, I must point out that BFII posted a stat that Drew was sacked 19 times in his first 4 games (Henry starts) and 19 times in the next 12 games. Imo, one would be a fool to not draw at least a partial conclusion. Additionally, he was sliding (untouched) in front of truck size holes, running wrong routes and dropping passes. He was a living nightmare.
This year, I believe that MM will be a stronger headcoach. If a similar situation were to occur in 05, I think he will have the strength to make needed changes because of the experience he acquired.
I guess what bugs me in all honesty is that posters on TBD, people who follow the Bills as much as anyone alive, are willing to write this stuff off and ONLY blame Drew, who is not great mind you.....but there ARE things that not his fault.
The running back situation was one of them.

You must be right, because I find WNY to be a delightful place. I have been there 11 straight years and am still amazed at how friendly the people are.
Williamsville and Amherst, although suburbs of a big city, have a real small town America feel to me.
Truthfully, If my wife would do so, I would be willing to sell the house and move up there. Admittedly, it would be easy for me to do so because I could go and have a job and a pension, but that is how much I like the reigon.

This should be ammended to read: "The rest of the league is built on "me-first" guys. The Pats are built of players of a totally different caliber."
There's no need to fish for obscure answers here folks, as elequently presented as they may be. We simply need better production from our offense in order to become the team we all hope to be... (specifically the QB and O-line). Our defense is as good as it has ever been, and as close to dominant as any realistic fan could ever hope for. We excelled in points given up, yards, turnovers, sacks, yards per play, etc etc. Our Special teams is now near the top of the league as well. Let's keep it simple here. We need better production from offense in order to improve on 9-7.
I think that we all agree that the defense was not the problem, but there did seem to be WAY to many third and long conversions given up.
Part of it imo can be blamed on the pass rush. The combo of Adams/Williams is strong and great against the run, but they lack agility. I dont know, but I think that the Bills might be well suited to have a leaner, more athletic DT to bring in on passing downs.
I am hoping that in 05, Schobel will be in his prime, and Kelsay will increase his production. Another corner seems to also be a need, if nothing else, for depth.

Soon, someone will come along and turn this great thread into a "I Hate Bledsoe"
thread.
Surprised it hasn't happened yet.

I bet that he wont have the balls to do it again.

Even if what you say is true, the blame belongs on the shoulders of the coaches. I like Big sam as much as anyone, but if he was insubordinate (and I dont know this to be true), he should have been suspended or at least fined.
Placating Henry cost the Bills a playoff spot. This is one thing I do NOT blame Henry for. It was the fault of the rookie coach.
-
OUCH!!!
A very good post, however frightening.
Speaking of "placating," why was Henry allowed to stink up the field for 4 games with a budding superstar sitting on the bench?
Gray has been mentioned as a head coach prospect, but imo he is now starting to mature into the DC role. MM was a rookie last year, and hopefully he too will become more assertive.
The Bills will need this to move to the next level.
-
There is simply NO WAY that you could be any more correct!!!
They had who, Lomas Brown at LT? He was 85 years old, and weighed about 250. They had an aged Glenn Parker, and a pitiful Dusty Zeigler, who could readily be seen hyper-ventilating on the Bills sideline, yet he took that bunch of misfits to the superbowl!
I dont think that TD will make this mistake. At least I hope not.

I like Edwards play the last couple of years and I think he could be had for less then 12-15 mil over 4 years. The only question is, how much drop off(if any) would there be between Edwards(or Anderson for that matter) and Williams. I'm guessing TD will have to weigh the difference in their play versus the amount of money it will take to bring back Williams.
Perhaps you are right about how much it would take to tie up Edwards to a long term deal. I dont know, but I fully agree with you that this IS the decision that TD faces.
TD does not seem to be one to sign players to outrageous contracts. Mr. Butler paid pro-bowl dollars to lesser players such as Fina, Rogers, Ostroski, a washed up Henry Jones, and others.
I can see TD leaning toward the younger player (Edwards), but that is jmo.
-
I guess that's why Todd Collins' was so successful as a Bill.
In Marv's defense, maybe Todd actually WAS mentally ready, but the offensive line sure wasn't. Talk about throwing a green QB to the wolves. With all Kelly's experience, he knew he had little chance behind the O-line, circa 1997. Why do you think he called it quits when he did at the end of '96?
Very good post. This is a seldom talked about, dirty little secret amongst Bills fans. The blame was being cast everywhere but the OL. In fact, people were praising Fina, and calling Ostroski a "lunch pail player."
The Bills offensive line has destroyed the football team for 10 years or so. McNally is rapidly changing this, but I hope that TD does not deprive him of talent to work with.
The truth is that our beloved Bills are a blue collar, cold weather team. We will NEVER succeed without an offensive line consisting of talented tough guys.
-
I was hoping that you would chime in.
I am FOR keeping PW, but against signing him long term and having to eat dead cap space down the road.
Truthfully, I under-rated PW coming into the season. Simon suggested that I pay more attention to him and I did. The guy is a player, BUT.....I sat in the first row vs. the cardinals. The man probably weighs almost 400 lbs. Imo, it is unreasonable to expect a man this big to last for 4, or perhaps even 3 years at his age. Make no mistake, Edwards is a huge monster as well, but he is young and imo more agile. He could probably be locked up for 12-15 million for a 4 year contract, no?
-
Everything (imo) with PW depends on what other teams offer him. If the Bills signed him to a 4 year deal, deep down, dont you think he would be washed up well before the contract expires?
Edwards is young. Many expect Clements to be signed long term before he is a ufa. This would of course be great, but extremely costly, and I think that Edwards is a more likely candidate for an extention.

1) Drew takes a pay cut and stays (sorry haters).
2) The starting qb position will be decided by who is healthy.
3) Somebody will slap JP on the back after a good play, and he will be hospitalized once again....nod to Drew due to injury.
4) TD signs the LG equivalent of CV.
5) JJ is gone.
6) PW is gone.
7) Tucker moves to OC.
8) Teague moves to LT.
9) Tucker and Teague both play well at their new positions under McNally.
10) TD signs Ron Edwards to a long term deal.
11) The Bills trade Henry and a 5th round pick for Surtain.
12) Josh Stamer sees lots of time at OLB.
13) The Bills draft a cb, ol and wr with their first 3 picks.
14) The Bills finish 11-5.
I may be wrong at every turn, but there it is. At least I have the ba!!s to put forth my expectations, and I welcome comments.
