Anyone excited about the "Championship Game" tonight?

ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
How much?

The truth is, it worked with Jennings. He was better than Bell, but he couldn't stay healthy. The 49ers gave him more than 40 million and he was the same way in SF. I am not his doctor or his trainer, but he is small for a LT and is constantly hurt. He is quick and agile; I have never disputed this. But can his body stand up to NFL competetion? I don't know, but Bills management needs to guess right. And btw Wood is clearly another question mark. He is far from perfect. He, at his best, is not as strong as the average LT in this league. Good? Sure. Perfect? I think that you didn't really mean this.

Upshaw, imo, can play OLB in a 4/3, but would be better in a 3/4. His stats are not staggering but remember, Bama does not like teams to run against them. They take run defense seriously. Trust me, Upshaw seals off the outside as well as bring consistent pressure. I am curious to see what he bench presses at the combines. This could matter with this type of player. But again, this kid makes plays. Remember, I am in the minority here wrt the draft (and btw, I am not trying to convert anyone lol). I don't really buy the "bpa" myth. I believe in fundamental football, and a strong foundation. In other words, you should never run to the podium and draft CJ Spiller in 45 seconds because you think he is the "bpa." This means little when you have Spencer Johnson at OLB. If it was up to me, the choice would be between the best OLB, DT, QB, or ILB. And we would re-sign SJ, Chandler, Urbik, and others. Jmo. But remember, we could have traded WAY down and taken Bulaga, AND got extra picks. This matters.

Hightower is a flat out monster, and Nico Johnson is also great. Could you imagine either of them with Barnett? Upshaw? He will be a better than average OLB as a rookie. I've been watching him for years. The kid makes big plays.

Jason Peters -- First Team All-Pro

Exactly. He was our best player and a rare talent at a very hard to get position. Trading him was insane. -

When healthy, I would think Bell is at least close to middle of the pack. But think about this if you will. When is he healthy? I don't think that an unbiased fan could liken Bell to perhaps the best LT in football. -

Promo, this is a tough question because it is impossible to prove one's answer, and you know this. But, let's try this: The Bills had to wait years for Bell to develop into a good OLT, which btw he is. But, he is almost always playing injured or out. This results in a rookie OT (Hairston) playing the left side. In a few years, he too might be "good," although he sure looks like a RT from where I sit. When Bell is 100% healthy, he isn't as good as Peters. Not in run or pass blocking, and it isn't close. Games such as Cincy and the Giants were very close. Maybe with a star studded LT they could have put those games away. Don't ya think this is very possible Promo? I am not asking you (or any poster) to like Jason Peters as a person after the bad blood between him and our favorite team. No problem. But, the trade was stupid and set this team back a long way. We had to wait years for our replacement to be good at this crucial position, and he spends most of his time off the field, injured. Is anyone even sure that the Bills want to give Bell the big bucks? Bottom line? You don't trade away a great LT. Not ever. -
Bills won't Franchise Johnson

This is a very sad, yet plausible thought. -
Polian Firing May Indicate Colts Draft Intentions
Bill from NYC replied to K-9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for this good info. One thing Manning doesn't need is cash. Another is to play professional football with neck problems. But given the above, it will all depend on what he wants to do. I do wonder if he will want to come to NY (NJ) and play for the Jets. Would he get to see his brother more? I don't know. What I do know his that he would take over the tri-state area. And, the league would absolutely love this. I have a very strong feeling that the Jets will do everything possible to acquire him. Sanchez sucks, and the fans are well aware. Time will tell. -
Polian Firing May Indicate Colts Draft Intentions
Bill from NYC replied to K-9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that they should draft Luck, but disagree about a 2nd round pick for Manning. Did you see what the Raiders gace up for Palmer? Manning is one of the top 5 qbs who ever lived. If he was traded to the Jets, they would sell a million jerseys, tees, etc. within a week or so. They could increase ticket prices and people would pay. It would be front page news, etc. Whether he, after the surgeries, would be worth it or not, Manning would cost far more than even a 1st round pick, even at his age. -
1) Who was the qb when we had Paters? Losman/Edwards? Fitz is Peyton Manning compared to those stiffs. 2) Again, obvious qb and coaching problems. Yet the Fins made the playoffs with Pennington. 3) You are correct; it is both. But remember, it took the Bills 15 years to stumble into a so-so OL. and during this time they are consistently losing. Their best resources have not been used well. The 06 draft (and free agency period) killed us. We are only starting to recover a little imo. The 10 draft was another killer. 4) Bulaga went late. They really might have been able to trade down and take him and another contributing player. Please consider this when comparing Bulaga to Pears/Hairston. And yes, I am old school. The best teams I have ever seen beat their opponents up. The league has in fact changed; you are correct. But using top picks on Spiller, Whitner, etc. will result in losses when your foundation is neglected, and your team is fundamentally weak. We are living proof of this. Finally, do try to watch the LSU/Bama game. Look at their 3 LBs (Upshaw/Hightower/Johnson) and then let's talk. Barron will be a better safety in his rookie year than Whitner could ever dream of being in his prime. Kirkpatrick will be twice as good as Leodis. These are only a few. Watch their TE, and Barrett Jones. I hope the Bills stock up with Bama players. If they do, they will win more football games.

I don't want to argue, but I wish to make a few points in the spirit of football discussion. 1) No, it didn't work. We failed to make the playoffs once again. We traded Peters and drafted a player who, like Bell, is constantly hurt. There is no reason to think that our record would not have been better with Jason Peters on the roster imo. Do you agree? 2) Both the Browns and the Dolphins have questionable at best coaching staffs. Still, since Long and Thomas have been on their respective teams, I think that they have both made the playoffs. Am I correct? Not sure about Thomas and too lazy to look it up. 3) I concede the fact that the Bills OL is better than it has been in 15 or so years. Levitre can really play, and I like Urbik. Pears and Hairston look like good RTs. I don't know how much to count on Wood and Bell due to chronic injuries. 4) For the first time that I can remember (literally), I think that the Bills biggest need is not OL. Imo it's OLB. We really have none, and only 1 credible ILB. This is unacceptable. That said, I am all about the best LT, pass rushing OLB, or QB available. DBs and flashy toy running backs have not resulted in wins. I sincerely hope that we re-sign SJ and address these crucial needs first. The Bills need a trip to the playoffs. So do Bills fans, big time. Happy New Year!

Buddy Nix to retire after 2012 draft?
Bill from NYC replied to Jdragon2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, lots of posters on this board could have found Dareus. The problem is that our GMs have "found" the likes of Mike Williams, Whitner, etc. It is very early, but imo the 2011 draft looks pretty good and the 2010 draft looks not so good. I'd say it's a push at this point. Btw, Chandler was an excellent pickup imo. He played better than Boss. -

And with the 10th pick in the 2012 draft,

A very odd, disturbing story. Her father sounds very strange. It doesn't make me happy. Sadly many of these players (including Donte as soon as he hit town) get inviolved with this. It would be up to an NFL football team to thoroughly investigate this before making a big investment in any player. They can afford it, ya know? -

Great post as usual, but I would like to add something. LaMarr Woodley was a mid second round pick. If one looks at his stats, they would surely be happy if he was drafted at #10. I do fully understand that all of those other teams passed him up as well, but it turned out that they were mistaken to do so. We need someone to recognize this type of talent. Upshaw has almost identical stats in terms of height, weight and speed. He is a monster against the run and has great pass rushing moves. We need him, or someone like him, desperately, as well as another ILB. And as you know lol, I would never say no to a solid LT. It is weird, but I must admit that we literally stumbled onto some decent blockers. Hairston and Pears will both be good RTs imo. I like Urbik, and Levitre is a top quality LG. Wood is good but usually hurt, same with Bell. The LB situation is like the Bills OL used to be. I guess where we differ a bit is need/bpa. I am just so burned out by the parade of DBs and RBs that I cringe at the thought of another one at #10. It has not resulted in wins. As for a wideout, imo they should re-sign SJ (hate to say it) and get a speedster later on. But a wr will sell tickets, at least in the short term, and you heard Mr. Wilson. -
A nice Dead tune for your listening pleasure....

Kadlecik is off the charts great. I have seen Furthur twice (MSG and Jones Beach). They are doing a spring tour in the northeast, and they sold out 8 nights in NYC at the Beacon, 3 in Boston and 1 in Wallingford, Ct. I am going to Ct. and making a weekend out of it. Can't wait! -

Bill from NYC replied to rocwocka's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can only offer a respectful opinion..... Sometimes it doesn't matter if a draft pick is "good" in terms of a football team winning games. Spiller is good. Whitner might even be good. These players didn't help us win football games because we have no foundation. We have an average qb protected by a LT who is usually playing hurt or out. We have absolutely NO OLBs. Our pass rush is really sad. And looking at the games we did win, there was pressure and even sacks. Imo, if a kid such as Upshaw could bring us 7 or 8 sacks and provide steady pass pressure, it would translate to more wins. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game

LOL!!! I love it when old Dead fans come out of the closet. What I DO know is that when you go to their concerts (now they are Furthur as I'm sure you know ), it's not all nuts. There are doctors, lawyers and CEOs in the crowd. Seriously. -

Point taken. But I've been watching him for years and something seems to be missing. Remember, he was playing us. We made Sanchez and Romo look like superstars. -

Interesting. We have screwed up the 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th. We never had the 10th to bust out on, but here come the speedy, ticket selling WR imo.
