  1. Buddy was 100% right to reassure him. Fitz has limitations, this is nothing new. But he is a seemingly good guy. We don't want him to give up, and he could. He is financially set for life, and a graduate of Harvard. What Buddy needs to do is look in the mirror. In his first draft, he selected a running back at #9, and a bunch of disasters. This, with extra picks in rounds 6 and 7. And before anybody jumps down my throat and tells me that Spiller is now playing very well, I AGREE. But we need to win games. In his second draft, he took a DT at #3, one who, imo, will be a good player. He was last year. And to his credit, he STOLE an OT (Hairston) in round 4. But, Buddy didn't want Mallett or Dalton in rounds 2 and 3.. He wanted a corner who sucks, and a very questionable MLB. In this draft, Buddy had an extra 7th, and an extra 4th, which btw he used on Hairston (25th selection of round 4). With the 3rd pick of round 4, Buddy took Searcy. In all, not a great draft when you pick 3rd. Last years draft is too early to rate, but it looks as if he stole another OT in round 2. Gilmore at #10? We shall see. The above is just the draft. The biggest blunder imo was Wanny. He looks like a Jauron wannabee. Kyle Williams in coverage? Who's next? Dareus? Nix could have, once and for all, purged the weak, timid, losing Levy/Jauron philosophy on defense. Instead, he made it worse by bringing in Wanny. So yes, it really is OK for Buddy to appease Fitz just a bit. Buddy created this mess more than Fitz.
  2. OK, my friend. Now, allow me to take YOU to task if you will..... Notice the bolded? As you surely recall, I wanted the Bills to trade down and select Hightower, who NE traded UP to draft. Instead, we drafted a corner in the top 10. You, as I remember, liked this pick. Our secondary boasts 2 early first rounders, and two very early second rounders. How's it looking these days? As per the ownership, I agree, and always have. Count me as one who thinks that 2006 was the last straw. TD had messed up. He had drafted a fat RT with a chronic ankle injury at #4 (Williams), and traded up for a 1st round qb who couldn't play (Losman). How did we right the ship in 2006? By bringing in 2 incompetent football men (Levy/Jauron) who nobody else wanted. Forget about not drafting Ngata. Seriously, that entire draft was absolutely stacked. Our first 4 picks consisted of 3 DBs who ranged from OK to garbage, and a DT who sucked. And we traded away an early 3rd round pick to accomplish this. The above is ALL on Ralph. This season, Ralph actually dug DEEP into his pocket and again, Nix used a top 10 pick on a player who was popular here in April, all to play defense. So what happened? Jauron Part Deux. Kyle Williams is alone in coverage, standing still 15 yards downfield on 3rd and 9. A penetrating DT, trying to cover the middle. Yeah, OK. And it's been posted that Kelsay too is out on coverage. Great! Couple the above with bizarre clock management before the half, week after week, odds plays at inopportune times, etc. Much of this is the fault of the coaching staff, or so I see it.
  3. I know about Arizona's OTs. And while they truly are bad, it's still hard to understand going from dominance to the toilet in a week. Especially wrt Dareus, who plays inside. As fior the drafting corners thing, I don't want to get started, but here's one for ya.....how many corners have we drafted and/or signed as UFAs since Winfield left? Painful, ya know?
  4. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, I was thinking about it, but the mood was so somber that I was lookong at, "Row Jimmy Row." Althea is in my top 5 favorites. I'm gonna PM you a version, and I won't let it happen again!
  5. 1) I am unable to figure out what is happening wrt Dareus and Mario. Dareus, despite his stats, was a key player in our victory over Arizona. I know what I was seeing. He was out-muscling his opponent, and played a key role in the safety. Last week he was sub-pedestrian. Why? Mario too was on fire vs. the Cards. How can you go from THAT good to THAT bad? I am not shy about offering opinions, but I can't figure this out. 2) Spiller deserves heaps of praise. Last week he made yards on his own. blocked pass rushers, and held the ball. This in addition to doing what he was drafted to do. 3) This OL is probably the best, and definitely the deepest in the history of the franchise. They have at least 7, and perhaps 8 men who can play. It is a pleasure to see them perform so well. 4) Wanny is the worst DC that I have ever had the displeasure to watch. Kyle Williams in coverage? Wanny is absolutely killing this team. 5) Nothing new to say about Fitz. He is just too limited and inconsistent. That said, I wish he would run it himself more often. 6) The wildcat does NOT suck. It provides us with first downs, and puts the football in the hands of Smith. 7) Props to McKelvin. He is actually thrilling to watch on returns. 8) I hope that Gilmore starts making plays. He has the tools, but a game changing play isn't much to ask from a kid who was drafted as high as he was. 9) Pay attention if you will to AJ McCarron tonight if you get a chance. He is starting to remind me of Fitz, but with less mistakes and a somewhat better, and more accurate arm. 10) The worst thing about this season imo is the dejection of the fanbase, not that I blame anyone or am exempt. If we could have just held on last week, a freak win over Houston or NE would have kept us in the picture. It's a longshot for sure, but I am holding out against hope for a win vs. the Texans. 11) Go Bills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Quite pleased indeed. Even last week, missing 2 starters including the LT, the Bills were able to run well, and Fitz's stats made him appear, on paper, to be an accurate quarterback. Things have changed SO much that I have posted things defending Pears lol! Take away Peters when he played RT, and tell me the last RT we had who was even almost as good as Pears. And Hairston is already better than Bell ever was. As you know, I conceded the importance of the qb position, given the rule changes. Fitz isn't getting it done. We all know this. That said, the defense is a seperate issue, but it is a HUGE one. Kyle Williams and Kelsey in pass coverage tells you each and every thing you need to know about Wanny. He is literally horrible, and killing this team imo.
  7. You are correct. This call would not have been overturned.
  8. I for one do hope that you reconsider. Please keep in mind that this was a horrible loss, and that because of the seemingly great offseason signings, we were ill prepared for such futility. Either way, I hope to see you back and talk some more football.
  9. Whoa!!! I like dialogue, and welcome differing views. I don't even care if this poster disregards my views based on where I live. Do you seriously think this bothers me? What would give you this impression? Did I seem upset in my response to him? I have no idea why you would warn someone against criticizing my views. Are you suggesting that I try to get people banned? I don't have the power you seem to imply that I do, and absolutely have no interest in this, or any other poster being banned. Things like this are up to SDS and the mods, and they will absolutely not be getting a complaint from me.
  10. Gotta respectfully, but strongly disagree. Look at the roster. We used to trot out players to block such as Greg Jerman, Jerry Ostroski, a gimpy John Fina, a nearly crippled Joe Panos, etc. Teams would beat us physically. We now have 3 good OTs, 3, perhaps 4 good OGs, and a fine center. There are 2 areas on the roster in which we need lots of help imo. 1 is LB, but the giants won a superbowl with a school teacher back there. The other is obviously qb, which is the most important. I was NEVER one to blame the scheme on either side of the ball for our losses. In my thousands of post I ripped into poor drafting, weak OLs, and lack of talent. Not as much now John. If anyone (NOT aimed at you) that it is ever OK for Kyle Williams to drop back into pass coverage and stand there alone (as the opponent converts 3rd and long), then there isn't much I can say. PS: The receivers really aren't so bad either. They actually, unlike many past Bills receivers, get open. Giving Fitz better receivers would be like giving me a brand new Gibson guitar. I would be the same lousy guitarist on a better piece of equipment.
  11. And btw, Mario Williams was also a non-factor. Sad indeed.
  12. I don't want to fight you, nor will I attempt to justify to you how much I care about, and how much of my energy and money I have devoted to the Buffalo Bills football team. Be well, my fellow Bills fan!
  13. Right on! If I owned the team, I would give Wade a blank check to run this defense. Thanks for one of the strangest responses I have ever received!
  14. 1) I suppose that we won't be reading any, "Brad Smith sucks" threads today. The truth is, he is an asset to this football team. And when used properly, the wildcat is a good thing. 2) I was one who was quite fond of Justin Rogers. I saw big potential in him, and thought he was a value pick in terms of where he was selected. But the truth is, he can't cover anyone, ever. 3) Please Bills Fans, do take this seriously. On the opening play of the 2nd quarter, Kyle Williams dropped back into PASS COVERAGE. Kyle is a penetrating defensive tackle. There is NO scenario in which he should be in pass coverage. He, btw was standing alone in the middle, and they did give up the first down. Wanny is every bit as bad as Jauron. Perhaps even worse, and I never thought I would be able to say this. Sorry to repeat this, but he should be fired, and escorted out of the stadium, as well as Western NY. Maybe he should be escorted out of the country. He is as bad as anything I have ever watched. 4) I have been a fan, and defender of Dareus. Today, he was a virtual non-entity. He too is a DT who is supposed to penetrate. He did nothing today, and this is a real concern. And btw, Spencer Johnson was a limping non-factor. The two of them were literally sickening. 5) Fitz? He was in control of the game until he turned back into Fitz. As everyone knows, we need a real quarterback. And I hate to say this, because he really does give it his all. Today, he was doing great things. But he will never be good enough to get us to where we need to be. Sadly, this is quite clear. 6) If you hear that same sweet song again, will you know why? Anyone who sings a tune so sweet, is passin' by, Laugh in the sunshine, sing. Cry in the dark. Fly through the night. Don't..... cry no. Don't you cry, don't you cry, anymore. Sleep..... in the stars. Don't you cry, Dry your eyes, on the wind. 7) No challenge by Gailey on that clear fumble? People, help me understand how this can be excused. Gailey has no business being a head coach in the NFL. None. And I do like him. He would be a great OC, with a strong head coach to make the important decisions. 8) If anyone cares, Hairston had a great game in terms of blocking for the run, but his pass protection fell WAY off imo. 9) OK, this IS trite, but I did like the way the players responded when Rinehart got hurt. FJ, Fitz, and lots of other players truly did care. 10) Props go out to Spiller, Jackson and McKelvin. They played good, and mistake free football. I won't lie, I was waiting for McKelvin to do somethig f--ked up, but he did not. 11) I know that it will sound like b.s., 20-20 hindsight, etc., but I was screaming to go for 2. You see, I know this team. 12) Wilson was exposed too imo. How did he drop that int? HOW????? Sad indeed. 13) Don't quit my friends. I am not going to suggest that we are not out of the race. We more than likely are. But we are also in this mess together. 14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. What leads you to this conclusion? Spiller is averaging more than 7 yds. per carry. Dontcha think that Pears enters into this equation? Wait until it gets cold. It will be great to have Pears mauling people. With all due respect, Pears, although not a superstar, is WAY better than you think. A RT doesn't have to be as agile as Walter Jones. The qb can usually see the rusher from that side. Pears is at the very least holding his own. And btw, I agree wrt Hairston. He is probably, other than Spiller, the most improved player on the team. If he was a ufa right now he would sign for megabucks. The Bills have probably not been this strong at OT in the history of the franchise.
  16. There is no disputing any of the above. But these record setting blow-out losses raise serious questins about the coaching. And this has to reflect upon Nix to some degree. As I said before, this is a very hard team to get a handle on.
  17. Poor qb play will almost always effect the defense. So btw will poor offensive line play. All one needs to do is look back upon the Bruce Smith - Bryce Paup - Big Ted Bills. The OL was SOOO bad that they just couldn't sustain drives. Luckily, Fitz doesn't have this problem, whereas the OL is better than average imo. No matter how good a defense is, you can't constantly give them poor field position, 3 and outs, and turnovers, and expect them to play to their potential. The defense mentioned above would sometimes get tired at the end of games from staying on the field too long. The Bills need to run the ball more than most teams to win games. Sadly, Fitz is one of those reasons. Against the Cards, did you see them converting 3rd down plays in the first half? The wildcat was working well too before the stupid pass. This game will tell us quite a bit. There is no excuse to let Tenn. beat us at home. They can stack up and the run and make Hasselbeck beat them. They can blitz at opportune times. And, they need to kick ass up front in terms of running the football. If Fitz can limit his mistakes ( a BIG if), this team could sneak into the playoffs. Of course, we will need some luck as well.
  18. I respectfully disagree wrt Pears. Imo, despite his limited agility, he is better than average. Wrt Hairston, I think that he is one of the most interesting plyers on the team. Remember, this kid has not played a full season at left tackle, and he is doing a very good job. Hairston is a huge asset for this team. I would NEVER trade him, but there's a player who is worth way more than the 4th that they used on him. In a hypothetical situation, if Hairston was a ufa at the end of the season and his play stayed the same or improved even a little, he would get a big contract with a nice signing bonus. I am thinking that the Cards wish they had either one of those two.
  19. OK, but how often does that happen? I think that he is the best RT we have had since Jason Peters lined up on the right. And, Hairston can play! Again, Bell getting hurt so much last season was actually good for this team. Hairston was a steal of a draft pick, and at least holds his own on virtually every down. Players such as Pears and Hairston are keeping this football team alive as we speak.
  20. Thanks Tom. I changed it. And technically, maybe the record COULD be broken. If they had a turnover, and then I received an important call and ran outside, and they turn it over again. I guess it could happen. But those are some heavy duty odds, no?
  21. Delayed post, I was in VA visiting my daughter and the post got zapped. 1) Barnett covering Fitzgerald on the TD catch? Was this the players or Wanny? 2) Stevie Johnson really deserves praise. He got open against Peterson, and caught what was thrown to him. The man gets open week after week, and this is huge. 3) I have been very concerned about Dareus, who looked pretty lousy the last 2 weeks. Not yesterday. He played a big roll in the safety, in terms of pushing back the pocket and taking away the inside. He did this many times yesterday. I am hoping that this is a sign of things to come, and looking for improvement as well. But those who were calling him a bust can relax imo. 4) Speaking of players being called a bust lol, CJ Spiller played his best game as a Buffalo Bill yesterday imo. Not statistically mind you, but I don't care about that. Did you see him hold the ball with both arms at the end of his long run in the 3rd quarter? And did you notice how he stepped up on pass protection? Yes, Spiller did everything one could ask of him yesterday. He showed his skills, hustled, and played mistake free football. And btw, a on couple of his gains, there wasn't much room. He was patient, and even got yardage on his own. 5) Eric Pears is better than pepole think. He is very tough, and leaves nothing on the field. He will even make tackles, at his size, after turnovers. 6) "Wind in the willow playin'Tea For Two. The sky was yellow and the sun was blue. Strangers stoppn ' strangers, just to shake their hand. Everybody's playin', in the Heart of Gold Band. Heart of Gold Band." 7) So, what do we make of this? Can we contend for the playoffs? Or even the division? 8) People, this was NOT a lucky win!!! They made 2 long kicks, and a sick, 61 yarder. We knocked the s--t out of their qb, and beat up the other as well. We ran on them with 2 injured starting blockers, and the Cards are not at all weak defensively. 9) While I was in a sports bar in Virginia, the Bills turned the ball over before my first sip of beer. This is a record that can be tied, but never broken. 10) Fitz continues to be a problem. He missed a few passes that probably could have put away the game for us. And the pick by Brad Smith was 100% insane. He was running well, and the wildcat was looking good before that idiotic play. 11) Mario needs to keep it going. According to the announcers, the Cards OTs are notoriously weak. I want to see him continue to dominate. We saw what happens when the front 4 kicks ass. Byrd, who has been awful imo, came away with 2 picks, and Gilmore almost had one as well. 12) It's rough not to like Bradham. Talk about effort.....he is all over the place. 13) Congrats people! We are 3-3, and still alive after 3 ugly losses of historic proportion. This is the hardest Bills team to figure in many years. 14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. He drafted A. Williams and Sheppard when he could have selected Mallett. This was stupid. I said it then and repeat it now. Both of those players will likely be busts. Mallett might be one as well. Or, he could develop into a top notch qb. Mallett was worth the risk. I don't see any doubt. And, Nix said that he had offers to trade down. Sorry, my friend. This was inexcusabley stupidity.
  23. Not sure it would have mattered. Do you think that Fitz could get the ball to him? He is missing many open receivers now. The bottom line wrt the drafts is something we both already know. They use the very best selections primarily on DBs and RBs. And this didn't stop with Nix. Maybe it will never end, I don't know. As Alphadog said, they had chances at Mallett, and many others. But that isn't how this team goes about business.
  24. I agree with this. Chan woulf be a decent OC if he had a strong head coach to make crucial calls and decisions. At one point, a holding penalty was called on the 49ers. A lineman tackled our right DE. Harbaugh was on the sidelines, screaming. Chan doesn't seem to show any emotion. I understand that different coaches have differing levels of emotion, but Gailey is losing the team, and needs to light a fire just to get them back to being competitive, let alone win a football game. He could start by getting tid of Wanny. What a mess.
  25. 1) Byrd looked like he was running in sand. He was also pushed back 15 yards or so by a wide receiver who he was back pedaling away from. He was shaken up in the 4th quarter, and if he sits, it will be not so much of a loss. What to do? They will probably use the franchise tag on him. 2) Kyle William was flat out pancaked on a third and long run in the second quarter. His play has fallen WAY off, to the point that he is no help in virtually any situation. 3) I love to see Graham line up as one of 2 in the slot. He gets open, and would go deep if he had a quarterback who could reach him. 4) I wanted the Bills to fire Wanny at halftime. Consider this a flat out call for his immediate dismissal. I will say it. His defense is worse than that of Jauron. I never in my life thought I would say this about any DC. Jauron had his team run away from scrimage, and this was actually better than the mess that Wanny has put forth. Disgusting. Absolutely sickening. 5) I don't even know who this kid Bradham is, but I thank him for caring enough to fight to make plays. Wanny will probably sit him and insert another defensive back. I am serious. 6) Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange, Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain. Lost one round but the price wasn't anything, A knife in the back And more of the same. 7) Dareus? Like the kid, but he is getting handled at will, and he has zero push. 8) Fitz? He makes sure to kill any chance the Bills have of getting back into any game. The pick after the really nice gain by Brad Smith on the wildcat was the last straw. He is not, nor will he ever be a good starting quarterback. Case closed. 9) He did it AGAIN!!! Wanny had 1 f-----g linebacker on the field on 3rd and 5, with approx 5 1/2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Of course, they ran it down our throats. 10) Mario? He played like utter garbage, a total non-factor. Don't be fooled by that one pressure. Smith just happened to run into him. He was blocked out of the play, as usual. 11) This is HUGE imo. On one play, Kelsay ran in to relieve Mario, who promptly waved him off. Kelsay ran back to the sidelines. This begs the questions.....Does Wanny have ANY control? Does Gailey? The answers are obvious. If it were up to me, I would keep Gailey until the end of the year, but again, Wanny should be fired TONIGHT!!!!!!! 12) Aaron Williams is a lousy cb. Period. He had one decent game, once. He will never be any good, so say hello to another first round corner. 13) Well, we are now a record setting, laughing stock. I would apologize to my daughters for making them Bills fans, but girls, believe it or not, it will help you in the end. You won't give up on things. And, you will be more loyal than others, and people will see it. People you care about will know it, and you will be trusted in turn, because of this. The Bills are a mess no doubt, but they are OUR mess. 14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
