And he would be correct. I would ALMOST prefer that they draft a corner.

#8 spot generating the most buzz
Bill from NYC replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't be so sure. The fans despise Sanchez, who probably will not last the season as a starter. As as you saw from the Tebow debacle, they make moves to stir fan interest. -
Reading the buffalo news articles today, and ...
Bill from NYC replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dave, this is not a bad thing. The example that I like to use is Matt Schuab. If the Bills could draft a qb who is, or can develop into someone as good as him, they would be MILES ahead of where they are now. He would have won them an extra game or 2, despite our other gaping holes such as linebacker. And btw, I am not trying to say that Schaub is an elite QB because he isn't. But he, unlike Fitz, Holcombe, Rob Johnson, and most of all Losman, is a legit starter in this league, and a player who can beat you. If the Bills could find a QB equal to Schaub at #8, it would be a steal. And btw, I know that Schaub wasn't a #8. In fact, he was a 3rd round pick (#90). This means nothing to me. Bryce Paup was a 6th rounder. So was Brady. They obviously should have been taken in round 1 (yes, total hindsight). But do you see my point? The Bills can not, and will not be competitive without a real quarterback. Given the rule changes, it isn't possible. You and I go way back as posters. You know that I was dragged kicking and screaming into the above mentality. But it's tough to argue with. P.S.: Schaub was arond before the rule changes, so he has taken more of a pounding than these kids are likely to receive. QBs such as him, and Chris Chandler would have been injured less under these conditions. http://www.pro-footb.../C/ChanCh00.htm -
Per Ian Rapoport: Bills like Barkley in 2nd round
Bill from NYC replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The OP is the first thing that I have read (not that I haven't missed things) that links Nassib to any specific team other than the Bills. Even the reporters, etc. that are high on Nassib don't seem to be mentioning teams with an interest. Alex Marvez said this on Sirius. While anything is possible, it's hard for me to picture the Bills passing on him at 8. Aside from the ticket selling aspect, there are other factors. Do you know that in 2006, the Saints drafted Marques Colston in the 7th round. He attended Hofstra, which was the Jets practice field. It was hard for them to justify not knowing how good he was. Marrone coached Nassib. If they pass on him and he turns out to be good, how will Brandon, Marrone, and the Syracuse/Bills OC look? Some think that the above doesn't mean much. I think that it does. -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
Bill from NYC replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree. Marrone is a person from Syracuse that Brandon is involved with. He hired him and his OC, and who knows who else he will bring in from this not so great program? Look at the number of posts in the Barkley thread and compare the numbers in the Nassib thread. Regional faves can sell tickets. I think that TG's article makes sense. -
Bills already making calls to TRADE DOWN
Bill from NYC replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, who hired Marrone, his Syracuse crony? If what Gordio posts is true (and this would not surprise me), I wonder who will win this battle lol! -

Tough call, but the Jets select DJ Fluker, from the National Champion University of Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. -

Smart move, and I can see where you are going. -
Sure, I'll happily concede this. But again, he cost 30 million dollars. I'll leave it to you to tell us if drafting him was a smart move. Also, I cannot stress enough that when rating a draft, it's not just about getting a "good" player. It's about how he helps your team win, and the players that you passed on.

According the Chris Brown........
Bill from NYC replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now this is shocking news!!!!! -
How long did Whitner set us back for? He cost 30 million in real dollars and cap room, and never won us a game. How about Mike Williams? Because of taking him over McKinnie, the Bills had to wait for Jason Peters for a good LT. Maybin? You see my point....any bad early draft choice cripples a team. Personally, if they have to miss I would rather miss on a quarterback.

D. Milliner then Nasib?
Bill from NYC replied to machine gun kelly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Will it never end? The worst thing that the Bills can do is waste yet another top draft selection on another fefensive back (or of course running back). Look at Tampa Bay. There is a reason that they are bad. They seem about to devote more than 10% of their cap space to a corner. To the jets credit, they are trying to dump Revis, his holdout threats, his injury, and his ridiculous salary. Teams play 4 and 5 wide sets these days. A corner, no matter who he is, can only cover 1 wideout. I think that the days of wasting money and high draft resources are coming to a grinding halt. Hopefully, the Bills are not stupid enough to repeat the same mistake that has played a HUGE role in the team losing just so many football games. But you never know. -
Not that he has inside info, but a friend who is a Viking Fan told me that the Vikes are rumored to be offering the #23 and #25 to get to #11 and take a receiver. I think that the OP should give it one more try.

My heart? Barkley. He head? Nassib. It is interesting that in terms of Sirius and draft articles, I haven't heard or seen Nassib linked to any other team, so I am really pretty sure that he will be there at 8.

PFC: 5 Reasons the Bills Should Draft Barkley
Bill from NYC replied to billsfan905's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what little I have seen of Barkley, he looked like a much better passer in 2011 than he did last season. That said, if he is healthy I would be happy if the Bills draft him. -
Hypothetical Draft Question
Bill from NYC replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps. I was simply looking to see how Bills Fans feel about those making the decisions for this team. But on another note, who is really the fool? Me, for posting this? Or a rude, boring, pompous ass like you for responding to it when you think it's so far beneath you? -
Suppose Barley and Nassib are available at #8, and Brandon/Nix think that Barkley is slightly better (perhaps 1 win per season). They also think that Nassib would generate considerably higher ticket sales for obvious reasons. My question is, which one do you think they would select?
-
I'll take the Jets.

Hello, and welcome to my world. What I will add is that for every Whitner, A.Williams, Gilmore, etc. the Bills have wasted a draft pick on, it is important to look at the blockers, pass rushers, and of course QBs that they passed on. The list is staggering. The only time it wasn't that bad was when the took Clements, because they traded down and got an extra 2nd round pick. Even at that, they passed on Steve Hutchinson, a future hall of famer, when they desperately needed a guard.

Jairus Byrd--think he'll be traded?
Bill from NYC replied to JTO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If any team is stupid enough to give us a first round pick for Byrd, the Bills would be insane not to jump all over it. -
The new tone at OBD: What they're saying
Bill from NYC replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Parcells WAS great. I once heard him say how much easier it was to find a wide receiver in the draft than it was to find a good guard. I do wonder how he would apply this train of thought today given the rule changes. The Bills eally could use a man like Parcells to oversee things in lieu of a lackey like Brandon. -
Drafting Milliner, as much as I like him as a player (he is way better than Gilmore) would not be an admission of anything. It would be a mere continuation of stupidity. If they draft Milliner, and he is as good as I think he is, it would still probably not result in more wins. This is a qb driven league, and we do not have a good qb. Gone are the days of Jack Tatum taking a receivers head off over the middle. Now, there are even rules which will hurt power running backs. So, the Bills need a QB to even compete, let alone to sell tickets. This board can be telling at times. Look at the number of posts in the Nassib thread. And, look at the positive reaction towards Marrone, a coach who took an irrelevant team to a so-so record. These guys will sell tickets until they suck, which sadly, might not take long. I for one hope that the Bills take a new direction. They need to keep up with the times, and stop wasting picks on RBs and DBs. If they do not, they will continue to lose game after game. Aside from that, I hope that Brandon can, or even wants to make decisions which will result in winning football games, and that his moves are not driven by profit for Mr. Wilson, let alone incompetence, which he has already displayed time and again.
