For those of you missing Levitre
Bill from NYC replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is little reason imo to look and see what AL is doing for the Titans. To really know, wouldn't one have to watch virtually all of their games? What we do know that he was our best, most durable and versatile blocker. We also know that the Bills cap hit for the QB position really might be the lowest in the NFL, and this is where the money goes in this league. The union signed off on the rookie cap thinking that "vets" would make more money. In fact, they are making less. The QBs cashed in, that's about it. What are the most important aspects of a winning team today? I think QB and head coach. Do you realize that next season, Jay Cutler will be paid approx. 4 times as much as our head coach and all of our quarterbacks COMBINED? Romo already is. The money was there to pay Levitre, yet they let him walk and replaced him with bad football players. This while ushering in a rookie QB considered raw, and putting him in a "hurry up" offense. Does this make sense to you? Hey, we are happy about a win against Jax. I am 100% sure that we would have won more football games if Levitre was still here. And it certainly would have been great in terms of developing EJ. It even might have helped Marrone but I am less sure of this. -
Thank you for this, and I meant every word that I said. If I was the GM I would offer his agent some nice cash and see if he bites. Positional players (meaning other than quarterbacks) are making WAY less these days. QBs garner in the cash since the new CBA. For instance, I predict that Cutler will be paid more than 15 million per season next year, perhaps even a lot more. They need to offer Branch 9 mil. or so for 3 years and see if he will jump on it. The Bills can afford it because of the comparatively small amount of money that they allocate to the QB position, let alone their huge amount of cap space.

1) My condolences to Stevie Johnson and his family wrt the his mom passing away. I am not going to mention him today in terms of this game. 2) I give Mario Williams a lot of credit. He is making SO much money. The team is out of the playoff hunt, and the man still brings it. I am proud to have him on our football team. 3) Although I cannot say that I was thrilled by EJ today, I do see this game as progress. I do like the fact that he ran more often. There is no reason for him not to. Please don't construe this post as me hating on the kid. Again, I view this game as progress. 4) On the sack in the first quarter by Kyle Williams, Branch was double teamed, and was actually pushing back the pile. I don't know if he is signed to a one year deal, but Branch is a player that we truly need to keep. He is making life easier for KW as well as Dareus. If he is due to be a UFA at the end of this season, Whaley should be calling his agent tonight. Seriously. 5) I was proud of Robert Woods today. The kid really does go for the football, and he is showing that he can get open, as well as hold onto the ball. 6) I don't know about you, but I was pissed when Marrone went for the 54 yarder under these circumstances. I would have rather went for the first down, or even punted. 7) Life may be sweeter for this, I don't know. See how it feels, in the end May Lady Lullaby sing plainly for you, Soft, strong, sweet, and true. 8) Between the first down pass that he allowed and the costly penalty (both late in the game), I thought that Gilmore was about to give away the game. But he came back with the late pick and I was thrilled. Btw, he also had a nice block on the play in the 1st quarter after Williams had that nice interception. 9) Plays going to Summers seem to work more often than not, no? 10) I have defended Pears for quite some time now. I still hold to the fact that in terms of the Bills, he is a good RT. We have had some horrors at this position. But he didn't play well today. 11) Legursky was flat out awful. He was beaten and abused. This is too much of a weakness for an NFL football team to hide. Defenses smell blood and exploit holes this big. 12) I give Chandler credit for manning up after his recent debacle. 13) Kudos to Kyle Williams. He made great use of his hands today on pass rushing plays, and did all he could wrt the run. 14) Yeah, I know that this win hurt our draft slot, and I don't really blame those that wish we would have lost. That said, I cannot think like this any more. Bills wins are so precious and few that I crave them. We are a mess, but we won a football game today!!! 15) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where Are They Now: Marlin Briscoe

Absolutely great stuff Ken!!! -
Dan Brandenburg LOL!!! After the 1995 draft (a great one in terms of the Bills), they got Brandenburg in the 7th round of the 96 draft. I saw him in preseason and am here to tell you that I thought he was unstoppable on the blitz. Seriously, he was crushing quarterbacks and looked as if nobody could block him. And, he was big and seemingly very fast. I had ZERO idea how he fell to round 7. When he got into real games, it sure was a different story. He was pancaked virtually every play to the point that I felt sorry for him. Even on special teams, players would wipe him out. The Bills did him a favor by cutting him; the poor guy would have been killed in this league. The only Bills player I can remember who was more mismatched in the NFL was Greg Jerman, although I am sure there are more that I pushed out of my head.

Would You Spend a 3rd or 4th on AJ McCarron?
Bill from NYC replied to H2o's topic in College Football
I couldn't agree more. And if the Bills management has even a hint of doubt about EJ, they should draft McCarron or anyone else that they think has the potential to be a franchise QB. You study the cap; it costs pennies these days to take a shot. -

I like the theme of this post. The Bills have a higher talent level than their record. Their problems imo are quarterback and head coach. These are huge problems. If McCarron could be developed into a qb on a par with Phil Sims, he is totally worth selecting. -
Why isn't anyone talking about Stevie?
Bill from NYC replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kevin Norwood? He can probably be had late and imo has more of an upside than SJ. -

I would take him in round 2 in one second. He is probably better than Manuel. -
Stevie Johnson: stay or go
Bill from NYC replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I must admit that I hope that the Bills do not enter the 2014 season with SJ on the roster. The sad part is that due to his contract, he is probably not worth a 7th round pick. SJ has some talent. His juke move off the LOS on the snap is imo his best attribute. That said, I have seen him lose more than enough games for this team. He is not close to being worth what he is paid. I think that Kevin Norwood, who can probably be had in round 4 or later would enter the NFL as a better receiver than SJ. I would like the Bills to rid themselves of SJ, and the losing mentality that he represents. Jmo. -
In the last sentence above, did you mean CB rather than QB? If so, I couldn't agree more. For instance, Cordy Glenn is playing at the level of a top 10 pick, yet I would rather see the Bills use a first round pick on an offensive tackle than a corner. Drafting a corner in the first round would be beyond idiotic. It would be a clear signal that Bills management doesn't know how, or worse doesn't want to turn this thing around. But each and every draft we sit there fretting that they will make this horrible mistake yet again. At least I do.

EJ Manuel IS our franchise QB
Bill from NYC replied to HSerotte's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear ya. And btw, I think that the Bills would be well served to draft either one of them. I am thinking that they both have at least as much potential as does Manuel. -

Well, Brandon already banned smoking in designated areas. Why not ban alcohol as well? Then they should ban barbecues because of the fumes, not to mention that the burning flesh might offend angry vegetarians. Sometimes the cheering gets a bit too loud. It can cause hearing loss. Maybe this should be looked into as well. In short, let's ban everything that some people don't like. -
EJ Manuel IS our franchise QB
Bill from NYC replied to HSerotte's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I respect your opinion but do strongly disagree. The NFL is like the Arena League at this point. Everything hinges on the quarterback. It makes zero sense to not take a shot at finding a top qb, especially with the new CBA. Manuel was a first round pick. He was the first QB selected and he costs pennies. Based on what he has shown it would be silly for the Bills to not take another shot at a good QB, or so I think. -

Do you think that Murray and/or McCarron will jump into round 1? I am sensing that they both will but it is hard to gauge. -
Sully throws SJ13 under the bus
Bill from NYC replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No I am not irked because I do not have a personal axe to grind against Sullivan, and every other reporter who doesn't praise the Bills. Johnson is playing poorly. Why do you expect the media to not publish this? Expecting sportswriters to wave pom-poms at a player or a team that sucks is an unreasonable expectation. -
It is JMO, but the odds of the Bills paying SJ 6 million dollars or more next season are slim to none. Their track record shows that they are less concerned about cap space than actual spending. They let their best offensive lineman walk and replaced him with Brown/Legursky. Levitre was a better guard than SJ is a receiver. This, while they were bringing in a rookie QB!!! Yeah, from where I sit the odds of SJ being on the Bills in 2014 are virtually non-existent.

As I said, he needs to be healthy but make no mistake.....when he IS healthy he is WAY better than Cruz, let alone SJ.

EJ Manuel IS our franchise QB
Bill from NYC replied to HSerotte's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree. Players get hurt. Even if they are taken in round 2, players such as Murray and/or McCarron would almost certainly see playing time, this if they don't win the starting job in camp. Also, nobody has a higher trade value than a quarterback. It was like this even before the rule changes (Schuab, RJ, etc.). Drafting a good quarterback simply cannot hurt a football team. It's a sound investment. I am guessing that Green Bay wishes they had one on the bench. -
I could get behind that move in a second if they think that he is healthy. Signing Nicks would make things WAY easier in the draft in terms of the need at wideout. I am of the very strong opinion that Stevie is out of here after the season, cap hit or not. The Bills have shown that they are not at all reluctant to swallow huge cap hits in order to cut players.

Thanks for one of your better posts. I wish there was a way to dispute it but I can't find one. I am NOT ready to declare that EJ is a bust but in a sense, it doesn't matter if he is. They got the extra pick for him, and there is always next year and the year after that. Additionally, position players are easier to get these days as UFAs. How many players will a team such as the Ravens have to cut in order to pay Flacco 21 million dollars? Same applies to the Packers, etc. Rookie qbs, even if their last name is Luck, cost 50 cents. There is absolutely NO reason not to grab one. In fact, I think that the Bills should draft one even if their opinion of EJ is higher than mine.

1) Ya know, I am not one to go to the old, "the Bills are cursed" cliché too often, but when old Ryan Lindell kicked a 53 yarder, and then kicked the ensuing kickoff almost into the stands, I had a feeling like I was in some old, weird Twilight Zone episode. We were lucky if he could kick it to the 10 when he was a Bill, or so it seems. 2) Gilmore had his best outing today. This is a good thing because it looks as if Robey has fallen apart at the seams. The PI play was simply awful. 3) Wood had a crummy game with his lack of pass protection, poor run blocking, and ill timed stupid penalties. You would think he was our worst blocker out there today given this, but he was not, and this is quite sad. 4) I was never one for "forming a consensus" on this board. I like the differences of opinion. So, I will listen to reason, but I am thinking that we absolutely MUST draft another quarterback in 2014. The only question I can see is in which round. 5) Leodis was the McKelvin of old today. 6) EJ is VERY slow to read the field and make decisions. He waits too long to throw and then forces the football. He even waits too long to take off and run. And btw, was his throwing motion different today? He had this weird 3/4 arm delivery and was getting nothing on the ball. I am NOT an expert, but there appeared to be something strange in his delivery. Oh, and he was flat out terrible, but you already knew that. 7) I walked into Charlie's Bar, They blacked my eye and they kicked my dog. You know my dog turned to me, and he said, You better head back to Tennessee, Jed. 8) Great to see Brooks was OK. It was looking scary for a while. 9) Most of you have a higher opinion of Marrone than I do. I always suspected that he was a Brandon crony, and I have little respect for Brandon as a football man. Well, Marrone went down a few more notches today from where I sit. This was not a good team that disgraced us. He did not have his team ready to play. They looked distant, like they weren't concentrating. It was disgusting and the head coach needs to take a big chunk of the blame. 10) Byrd looked good today. If they don't keep him we will probably have another Legursky situation on our hands. And you saw today just how awful it can look at LG, no? 11) Just an overall comedy of errors. And screw the bad calls too. We were not going to win this game against that sub-par team. Not enough concentration, flat out disgusting QB play, and poor coaching/preparation. 12) Stevie Johnson should at the very least be demoted to backup. He is a proven loser and I would rather see the young guys get more plays and experience. He makes too much money to trade next season. No team would pay that salary. He will more than likely be cut, so there is not a thing to lose by benching him. 13) Are we approaching a top 5 pick yet? 14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
