It is great to discuss football with you. I thought about what you said about personal preference in terms of defense and your point is well taken. Even in this game there were time when I would have liked to see more pressure. The thing is, we won! BUT, I think that when as face more prominent qbs, we are going to need to be in more of an attack mode, and we clearly have the horses to do so successfully imo. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You see depth like this not only wins football games, it effects how teams draft. When a team has depth, they can continue on and draft the bpa. Make no mistake, the term bpa is a bit over used and almost cliché. Imo it does not apply to a team that needs a qb. That said, depth does provide luxury for a football team and is becoming increasingly rare. He was standing around laughing when Woods was laying on the field, injured. Imo he is poison, talent notwithstanding.

1) Is it me, or did anyone else think that unheralded Bills players had a HUGE role in this victory? I will try to explain this as I go along. 2) The field goal with 6 minutes left in the half was a great call by Marrone. I'm not sure that I wouldn't have punted. But ya know, the sack before the half was just stupid and it cost us points. Marrone really needs to stop having meltdowns before the deuce at the half. He has been doing this on a consistent basis since he came to town. 3) In the credit where its due department, Gilmore had his best game as a Buffalo Bill, and it wasn't only the pick. His coverage was spot on and he was hitting people. I was very impressed and happy to see this. 4) Kyle Williams is comparatively small, right? He also has short arms and isn't really fast, correct? Yeah, well who gives a f^$(?!!! And forget that "lunchpail" cliche too. He gets low and gets great leverage. I said GREAT!!! He is also a master at using his weight and motion to get past blockers and run straight lines at the qb. I believe he taught this to Marcel, who seems to be doing the same thing this season. Before the game, I told my dear friend nirvjam that Kyle would be the key to our defense today and I wasn't so far off. Kudos to you KW!!!!! 5) Bradham had a few bad penalties today, but do you know that he had 10 tackles, 1 assist and a forced fumble? 6) Why don't we just give Alabama, rope enough to hang himself? No need to worry the jury, His kind takes care of itself. Twenty-third Psalm Majordomo, reserve me a table for three. In the Valley of the Shadow just you, Alabama and me. 7) Jarius Wynn? Are you kidding me? He looks like a good DE, and these guys are at a premium as we all know. And speaking of "Jarius," Jareus Byrd can kiss my ass. OK, I shouldn't have stooped to this level and said that. I was wrong. 8) Somebody help me out with the contract status of my man Da'Norris Searcy. We need to keep him on this football team. Another unsung hero! He won't stop making plays! 9) Robey was all over the field today too. Another player who I am proud to have on this football team. 10) Dear Sammy, Part of being great is simply doing you job. That bonehead move was bush league and far beneath you. Please learn from this and refrain from this sort of behavior because you are on your way, if you keep working hard, to the record books. Do the right thing young man! 11) Hey, far be it from me to try to preach to anyone about Orton. I have been around long enough to see many of the all time great QBs. That said, he is one tough son of a B word and he is fun to watch. At least he is a pro. None of us can dispute this. 12) Corbin Bryant kicked ass today as well, didn't he? 13) Do you realize that we will be looking at scores next week and thinking about playoff implications? :) 14) My best wishes to all Bills Fans on this wonderful New York October day. 15) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gerald McCoy contract --> Dareus
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or maybe we will John. The Lions allocate a TON of money to their DL (Suh and Fairley). They also have to pay Stafford huge bucks. EJ and Orton combined cost pennies in terms of quarterbacks. Think about it.....qbs such as Dalton, Stafford and Cutler cost far more than double what we pay our qbs. It can work imo. -
The "experts" take - Bills at NYets
Bill from NYC replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Me too Promo. He really did look good in preseason. I would love for him to surprise people and take over this game. I am not saying the he will do it; I am saying that its possible. Also, if this kid is as good as I suspect, there are long range implications. Spiller is a big cap hit next year if he is on the team. Brown is not. This team needs cash to re-sign a bunch of good football players. Exciting times in the state of NY, wouldn't you say? -
active players who are candidates for "best ever"
Bill from NYC replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Orlando Pace was the best I have ever seen. His career didn't last as long as some LTs but when he was on, there was nobody better. This of course is jmo. Watt is interesting. He already might be one of the best to play DE if one excludes longevity. That said, he has a tall mountain to climb to be the "best ever." Reggie White and Bruce Smith were flat out great. Then of course there is a player that most here probably never heard of. I was even very young when I saw him, but I don't know if I can call any DE better than a man named Deacon Jones. -
OC, your thread is about this one specific premise. Do you mind if I broaden it just a bit? The possibility of injury makes the trade one that is dangerous. If Watkins goes down, we are a team with qb issues, without Watkins, and no first round pick in 2015. I hate trades like this but Watkins DOES look fantastic. He has a very unique style. I think that Fear The Losing sums it up well in another thread. The Bills need to make the playoffs this year, next year or both.

Thanks for this post. Dialogue such as this is why I have been here for so long. I do ask you to consider the fact that Brady is of course older than he was last year. It's rough to get up from a sack, whether it's from a 340 lb. Dareus or a high speed human missile defensive back. It's that much worse when you get old. Again, wrs and qbs now own the middle. Do you remember what happened to receivers when they went to the middle? Players such as Tatum, Lott, Atwater, etc. would flat out destroy them. Now, defenders are fined 100K and more for what used to be legal. So yes, imo the way to go is pressure. Geno Smith is shaky but not void of talent. If the Bills can pressure him and get to him he will cough it up and throw picks. I hope this is what we see on Sunday. You are correct, this is the defense that I prefer. Once again, thanks for the dialogue. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Schwartz is a modern day Jauron imo. Brady is not young. When he gets hit, it hurts more. The guy can pick apart zones all day. This is what he does. He got hit a couple of times and they should have blitzed more often. You cannot beat Brady sitting back. Yesterday we faced a qb making his first start on the road. There is no way he should have had time to complete those 3rd and long plays. The rule changes gave the qbs the middle of the field. This is a huge difference. I like the Rex Ryan/Pettine system of pressure. Now, we have lbs who are better vs. the run. I hope that they send players like Robey, Searcy, etc. after Geno Smith. There is no reason not to.
-
Mario was fine, as always. He holds down his side and applies pressure. He hasn't had one of those 3 sack games this season but his numbers are good, as is his performance. And btw, he is extremely involved in the game. I saw him get angry on one play when he felt the defenders on his side messed up. I still consider him the best player on our team. Jmo.
-
I sense that you underestimate how important it is for a receiver to actually get open. Watkins looks like a star, no? He doesn't have exceptional size nor speed. But he is quick, has GREAT hands, and gets OPEN! SJ got open too, but his hands were shaky. Hogan plays special teams and can actually shake his defender. I wouldn't take him so lightly. Jmo.
-
I have always been a fan of Woods and still am. But the possibility does exist that Hogan gets open more than Woods. Notice that I said possibility in lieu of undisputed truth. But if I was pinned down I still think that Woods is a better all around wide out. That said, we need players such as Hogan.

1) I've got a confession to make about EJ. Yes, I said EJ. I was never high on him until today. He was standing on the sidelines with the coaches and Orton was involved. He was clearly happy when we completed passes and made plays. This tells me he is a team player; a young kid trying to learn. I respect this big time and offer him a proverbial tip of the hat. I appreciate this kind of behavior. 2) Speaking of human behavior, my life has taught me that its not always easy to predict. Weren't Dareus and Hughes the guys that were acting like fools in the off season? Well, watch the game my friends. They looked like the best conditioned athletes on the field today. And, they were focused. Marcel is a monster. Gotta love that kid!!! 3) I speak my mind in case you haven't noticed lol and do own up to my predictions. I was flat out against the trade-up for Watkins. That said, credit him for the win today. The kid stepped up and won the Buffalo Bills a football game. This is a big deal as Bills fans know. 4) Try to give me some room this week, ok? This was one of the most confusing Bills games I have ever seen, and I see them all.....every play. 5) Schwartz is killing me. Completions on 3rd and 10 and 3rd and 18 on the SAME DRIVE? Thee is too much talent on the Bills defense for this to happen. He doesn't apply enough pass pressure pure and simple. 6) I turn and walk away, then I, come round again. It looks as though tomorrow, I'll do very much the same. I must turn down your offer, but I'd like to ask a break. You know I'm ready to give everything, for anything I take Someone called my name, You know I, turned around to see It was midnight in the Mission, and the bells were not for me 7) I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate how tough Orton is. Seriously, he is a throwback. But when he is forced out of the pocket, it really does suck, no? 8) Hackett too was like a knife in my ribcage today. The handoffs up the middle to a seemingly gassed Dixon on first and second down were tough to take, no? 9) Sorry if I bore you, but here goes my almost weekly shout out to Searcy. He was in on a key sack (got credit for half). He has virtually no cap hit and he contributes all the time. Any football team needs players like him. This is beyond dispute imo. 10) It is unusual to be down on a coach after a win, but Marrone didn't impress me today. We were home, against a not so great team. It was the first road start for their qb too. There were too many penalties, and he is responsible for bringing in Schwartz. I want to like Marrone. I truly do but he makes it tough to do so. 11) I wish Spiller well and at the same time am anxious to see what Bryce Brown will bring this football team. 12) Gilmore? He was very good on coverage most of the game. But in the first quarter he really looked bad on two running plays. He seemed to simply throw his body into the play when he could have wrapped up the runner. 13) There is a lot to talk about wrt the OL but make no mistake, Glenn didn't play so well today. That said, in the 3rd quarter Richardson seemed to come alive. Let's hope, ya know?! 14) Did anyone see what happened to Mario on 3rd and 4 on the Vikes opening drive? First he was held, then he was tackled. They didn't make the first down so the penalty would have been declined, but these calls appear to be random at this point. 15) Chandler? A Crucial first down reception after a crucial drop. At least he didn't quit! 16) Congrats to us Bills Fans. Mid October, we are over .500, and I am loving it! 17) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bills Working Out Kouandjio at Guard
Bill from NYC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pears is NOT a guard. He is a brute strength RT (and not the worst). He simply doesn't have the agility to play LT nor the burst to play OG. It ain't happening. Kujo was the 4th best blocker on the Tide. The line was stacked with stars. He is not exceptionally strong. He's fairly agile, but there seems to be an injury problem. Either way, he was a stupid selection considering that we have Glenn at LT. And I strongly sense that he lacks the strength to be a good guard, let alone RT. So who do we blame for this mess? Marrone for not starting Urbik? Whaley for wasting a pick on a damaged Kujo? No and No. Imo Brandon should be loaded into a cannon and fired into Lake Erie. He is a sophisticated, modern day circus barker. It was HE who brought in his Syracuse cronies and a literal nobody to be GM. If Brandon is fired (fingers crossed) and a team picks him up, they will make a profit and lose football games. Brandon is a cancer and a disaster. -
Not so sure about the above. The DL put pressure on Brady but not enough, and at times they rushed 3. When Brady is on, he will find open receivers given time, and time is exactly what Schwartz handed him. They should have blitzed and kept hitting him. The Bills didn't do well in the past with passive defenses. This game was more of the same and makes one long for the days of Pettine.

1) Big time kudos to Chandler today. 6 catches for 105 yards is more than one could ask for under the circumstances of todays game. 2) I am NOT going to fault Gilmore on the TD pass that he gave up. The coverage was near perfect, and Brady had a month to throw because of the sub-par coaching of Schwartz. Actually, I thought that Gilmore played rather well today. More to come on Schwartz. 3) Duke Williams was SO bad today that I am uncomfortable talking about it. The pass interference call was about as bad a play as I have ever had the displeasure to watch. I hate to say it, but Searcy got toasted too. However, he looked great compared to Duke. It was just sickening to watch Williams. 4) I love the way that this team fights back. Mario, Spikes, Dareus, and Bradham never quit. They just kept playing for 4 quarters. Same with Woods, and Hogan. Players such as FJ and KW always do this. My point? I praise this team for going all out despite the loss. 5) On the first drive of the 3rd qtr., we rushed 3 on a 3rd and 9. This was a stupid move by Schwartz, and I was screaming this as the play was setting up. They made the first down and scored a TD on the following play. 6) I dropped four flights and cracked my spine, Honey come quick with the iodine. Catch a few winks down, under the bed; Then head back to Tennessee, Jed Tennessee, Tennessee, There ain't no place I'd, rather be Baby won't you carry me...... Back to Tennessee. 7) I think that we might just have a new weapon in Chris Hogan. It looks like Orton is able to utilize him too. This is good news on a dismal day. 8) A special shout-out to Bradham.....it is obvious how much he want to win football games. He truly is a pleasure to watch. 9) Schwartz reminds me of Jauron. The Pats OL didn't impress me, but he rarely pressured them. Imo, Schwartz employed a play not to lose philosophy. He was the biggest contributor in this loss today. If Petine was still here, we would have won. Schwartz sucked THAT bad. He was a flat out disaster. 10) Our OL wasn't THAT bad today from where I sat. Glenn DID get schooled by Jones on the play immediately after the deuce, but this is rare. 11) I have been accused of being too tough on Spiller. I am embarrassed to admit that against my better judgment, I backed off a bit. Those days are gone. CJ Spiller is a liability to this football team. He is virtually useless. He needs to be benched imo. Yes, BENCHED!!!!! We can comb through his stats and pretend that he is good, but he is not. 12) Orton, despite the OK stats, looked more rusty than he did last week. Wrt the pick to start the 2nd qtr., he had all day to throw. That said, he still blows EJ away. 13) The fact that the Jets and Dolphins lost does offer us hope. Bills Fans DO deserve hope. 14) Robert Woods is another player who really does want to win football games. I admire his effort and courage. 15) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spiller trade talk is absurd

2nd or 3rd might be a reach, but this is an absolutely great point that you make! -
AP smoked "a little" weed before his court appearance
Bill from NYC replied to ricojes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Police use discretion and for many reasons. Here ya go..... 1) It isn't good to alienate any community when you don't have to. 2) It can help to keep a cop from getting killed. 3) The crime committed vs. the fallout might not be worth the trouble. 4) Your supervisors might want you to. Bro, the list is endless. Judges do what they want. Think about the mere premise of a bench warrant if you will. If a judge issues one against you, guess who is going to be handcuffed and brought before the bench? Yep, that's how it works. Now, how about the charge of Criminal Contempt Of Court? If the judge says that you personally are in contempt, guess who is in contempt? No jury needed mind you. The judge might let AP slide. Who knows? I get the feeling that you want him to because it's because of the fact that the term that he broke was smoking weed. No problem. I hope that the judge puts AP in jail because he, imo, is a scumbag and a piece of garbage. You however are very cool. -
Spiller trade talk is absurd
Bill from NYC replied to JohninMinn.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It IS absurd, but not for the reasons that you mention. Spiller is a situational running back who is no longer young. He is all but one dimensional, whereas he can occasionally break a long one. The list of things he cannot do (including score touchdowns on any consistent level) is far longer. Additionally, his contract is almost up. Toss in the fact that good running backs can be acquired as late round picks and he is all but worthless in terms of trade value. The Bills are better off keeping him around for this season and hoping for any production than letting him go for a 7th round pick.
