The age old debate...QB vs OL
Bill from NYC replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For many years I did not agree with the above. I would point out to people that the Colts drafted Tarik Glenn and Adam Meadows before they drafted Payton. I would also tell people just how good playing on (imo) the best or 2nd best OL off all time made Kenny Stabler. Those days are over. The QB position is now at least 50% of the game, probably more. The rule changes caused this and it will only get worse. If I was a GM I would draft a qb early every single season. If somehow I wound up with 2 very good ones, imagine the trade value! Even poor to marginal qbs have some value. Two football teams actually traded for Matt Cassell. I am guessing that the Bills could even convince some team into giving us a 7th round pick for EJ Manuel. I do like this conversation, but rest assured it does not apply to the Bills. Guys like us will watch college games, you tube, etc. in an attempt to find good qbs and good blockers. Then, the Bills will probably draft a defensive back in round 1, and might even trade up to do so. -
Here is mine: Round 1) Safety Round 2) Cornerback Round 3) Defensive Tackle or End who is good at pass coverage Rounds 4-7) Best secondary available After all, we ARE bullies. Just ask Rex!

Week 13 predictions: Texans at Bills
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The above is a very probable scenario which is all too familiar. That said, I think that the defense is screwed up to the point of being unable to stop even the worst offense. Sadly, I am thinking 30-27 Houston, 0 sacks, and their qb will set a personal record for most yards he has ever thrown for in a game. -
CTE Discovered in Frank Gifford's Brain
Bill from NYC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, but the hardest thing to do in any sport is to hit a baseball. Being big, fast and strong isn't enough. -
KD, one has to be very disciplined to not get pissed off about the 2015 Bills. Rex came to town telling us that the Bills would be bullies. Well, these bullies look more like ballet dancers as the tiptoe away from the LOS, not even making qbs hurry, let alone hitting them. This mind you, after signing the defensive linemen at a cost of well over a quarter of a billion dollars. Did you, or any Bills fan see this coming? I sure didn't, and I've been watching football for more than 45 years. Ultimately, allowing ones self get angry is a very bad thing to do. Maybe the Bills are here to put us to the test.

Rex Ryan says changes coming for review process
Bill from NYC replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It has NOTHING to do with continuity. Not one thing. It's about 20 million dollars left on his guaranteed contract. -
Who else is still pissed off!
Bill from NYC replied to 1st Ammendment NoMas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Houston has what I consider to be a poor to average at best offense. That said, I am more afraid of that offense torching us than I am of JJ Watt and their defense. This is how much Rex has destroyed our once great defensive unit. That is pretty sad whereas JJ is a one man wrecking crew, and easily the best player in the NFL who isn't a qb. -
Interesting that you should say this. Tarpley was the only player on the Bills with a qb sack. How is that for a disgrace? Rex has, despite the talent they have, ruined this defense. Do you have faith that they can stop anybody? I do not. For 2 years they were a talented, physical group. Now, if I were going to give them a nickname I would call them the "Jauronettes." They run away from scrimmage and let so-so qbs rip them apart. Bottom line? Rex has obviously destroyed the strength of the team.
-
I don't agree with the above one bit. This defense is passive up front, enough to remind one of the Levy/Jauron days. If I was an opposing OC, I would be laughing at Rex and The Bills as I watch their linemen run away from scrimmage. The Bills defense became a good one under Pettine. It got even better with Schwartz. This is because we had a pass rush. Under Pettine we had admittedly issues against the run, but this is a passing league, no? I think that Rex is trying to show the world how smart he is. The problem is that in doing so, he is looking less like a genius and more like a buffoon. Sadly, he is causing the team to lose games.

1) No challenge on the catch by Hogan in the 4th quarter? I must admit, Rex is consistent. He is consistently idiotic, whereas he pulled the same stunt in the 2nd quarter. Not to be denied, he DID challenge plays that were clearly against us. 2) I don't know about you, but each and every time they showed Sammy's stats during the second half, it was like a knife in my stomach. Do you realize that we will have to look at those numbers all week? Not one f)$&^(g yard in the second half? Nothing?? You really cannot make this s%^t up. 3) I really like Tyrod. Seriously. But the man needs to be more decisive, be it getting rid of the ball or taking off to run. He, for the most part, did seem to have SOME time today, despite the horrible play of Henderson. 4) Seriously, when was the last time you saw a Bills player take over a football game the way Sammy did in the first half? Please, jog my memory. You just cannot lose a game in which a man plays this well! Ooops, I guess WE can. 5) There are times that you can beckon, There are times when you must call. You can shake a ton of reckoning, But you can't shake it all. There are times when I can help you out, And times that you must fall. There are times when you must live in doubt, And I can't help at all. Three blue stars / Rise on the hill. Say no more, now / Just be still. All these trials / Soon be past. Look for something / Built to last. 6) The Bills couldn't even stop the Chiefs on the final drive, knowing full well that they were going to run the football. Just an absolute disgrace. 7) As soon as the 3rd quarter started, the Bills basically stopped rushing the quarterback. On the TD pass to #87 (Kelce?), they rushed only 3, and the lineman in the middle stayed back. Even a Bills fan should not have to sit through nonsense like this. Oh, and did you see his TD dance? I have several comments I would love to make about this but I choose to refrain. 8) Make no mistake, I will NEVER turn my back on the Bills or especially Bills fans. I will go to the grave as a loyal fan. Period. That said, it really is taxing sometimes, wouldn't you say folks? 9) How much of the game did you spend wondering exactly why the Bills under utilized Watkins last week? He was going past, over and around defenders, making it look SO easy. Who would ever believe that he wouldn't catch another pass? Seriously, this cannot happen. 10) Yikes, as I am typing this they once again displayed Sammy's numbers on the Seahawks game. No choice now, I've got to turn the S&%t off. 11) I can understand Hughes being frustrated, but his roughing the passer penalty was amateurish, stupid, and costly. 12) People, I am sorry that I allowed myself to get so angry. I mean this, and you are reading the edited version. 13) At least we are not alone. We are in this mess together. 13) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The good and bad of Chris Hogan
Bill from NYC replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Clay does something similar. He runs patterns just short of first down yardage far too often. -
1) I admit to being somewhat shocked to see Brady shouting obscenities at his blockers in the 2nd quarter. And yes, I was hoping that one of them would punch him in his mouth. 2) The end of the first half was particularly upsetting. Two consecutive drops, then to consecutive bad plays by Gilmore. Now, Gilmore had the pick and also the great break-up in the 3rd. He even added a couple of nice tackles vs. the run. The man can play, I just wish he was more consistent. 3) Graham did all he could to hit Brady. In the second quarter, one of the hits was just a bit low too. Oh well, he almost put him out. 4) Felton was useless tonight. 5) The Bills didn't lose anything when Urbik came in. As a matter of fact he threw the key block on McCoy's TD run. 6) If the Bills had any depth at all at OT, I would cut Seantrell Henderson tomorrow morning. He was so bad it reminded me of players such as Marcus Spriggs. That's right, absolutely terrible. 7) Everybody's bragging and drinking that wine, I can tell the Queen of Diamonds, by the way she shine. Come to Daddy, on an inside straight, Well I got no chance of losing, this time. No, I got no chance of losing, this time 8) Listen, I like EJ as a qb just a little bit more than I like scarlet fever. That said, it was very stupid to not pull an injured Tyrod at the end. 9) I didn't have one beer tonight, but here is what I heard the ref say: "Before the snap, holding #20, defense." This was the play with off setting penalties that brought back the interception. Did anyone else hear this. Please say yes! 10) Even before the injury, Tyrod was less than impressive. 11) Here comes the obvious.....why didn't Tyrod throw more often to Sammy??? 12) Nice game for Hogan. He could have got even more yardage too if he was lead properly or the throws were made earlier. 13) What a mess 14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dontcha wish your favorite college team had his as a coach? If they did, your team would win instead of lose.
-
Wrong. If Miami would have let Saban have Brees he would have won at least one superbowl. Saban is a winner. If there was a higher league than the NFL he could win there too.

Smart vs Dumb game plan against the Pats
Bill from NYC replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am always screaming for Tyrod to run himself. Imo there is not a qb in the NFL, including Wilson, who can run as well as TT. He does seem to be nursing a bad knee, but one of these days I expect him to break loose big time and gain 100+ yards. We shall see. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
What the hell is wrong with Karlos now?
Bill from NYC replied to Lv-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So was I and I called him everything but a child of God. Then about a month later, I was stricken with that flu. I couldn't eat for at least 4 days and lost 12 pounds. My fever was so bad that I was hallucinating red and yellow cartoons on my bedroom wall. I had every bad system you could imagine and seriously thought that I might die. Since then I made sure to take the flu shot every year, and I suspect that people who opt not to take it never really had a bad case of a serious flu. -
I think that posters often turn a blind eye as to what Gilmore would/will cost the Bills next season. It is depressing. Here is the contract of Darelle Revis: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/darrelle-revis/ He's got 16 million in 2015, 17 million in 2016, and 7 million in 2017 GUARANTEED!!!!!!!!!! And you can bet that if he is still playing at or even near this level in 2 or 3 years, he will hold out for more guarantees. When Revis signed this deal he was approx. 30, and coming off serious surgery. Gilmore is much younger, healthier, and the cap is going up, not down. He could easily get a deal where he is paid in the vicinity of 15 million per season. I for one do not think he is worth this kind of money/cap space. Hey, maybe he IS worth it, but not imho.
