Their w/l/ record is not very good. This post, while sensible, isn't the most positive one I have ever read. Not that it should be mind you, but why take him to task when you don't sound so positive either?

Dave, teams that are set at quarterback, LT and DE SHOULD draft first round corners if they see a special talent. The Bills? Generally speaking, are really not one of these teams. I am one of the few on this board that was not so impressed with Levy. Reed, Smith, Kelly, Talley, Thurnman, etc. all seemed to age at the same time. In lieu of trying to find replacements, he drafted defensive backs. Some were good and some were not so good. This resulted in losing football games. When he came back in 2006 he held even more sway and was even worse. He came away from the 2006 draft with a 37.5 (as I recall) million dollar Donte Whitner, and a couple of early round dbs who sucked. That draft destroyed this team for many years and I absolutely knew it would. And yes, he DID also get Kyle Williams in round 5. Gilmore? He is "good." But, how many games has he taken over and won for the Bills. One? Two? He has 8 interceptions in 3 1/2 years. Again, this is "good." But imho, a cornerback is almost never someone to build a team around, especially a team with qb problems. Finally, a defensive back doesn't have to be a top 10 pick to produce. Darby is proof of this. So is Robey, who has 5 sacks and a pick in his short career, and Searcy (4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 5 picks in 4 1/2 seasons). Hey, Revis went at #14. So, was Gilmore worth the #10? I suppose his talent says yes. Did his selection result in wins? Sure, a couple. But he also lost us some games along the way. The bottom line is that we must hope that Tyrod is the real deal!!! It's mostly about the QB these days whether we like it or not. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny you should say that! The Tide has a kid at corner who is a freshman, Minkah Fitzpatrick. Remember that name. Saban doesn't even start this kid! He plays him at nickel and on special teams. If he stays healthy and focused, he is going right to the NFL and right to the Pro Bowl. Do watch #29 if you have a Bama game on.

Is Rex stubbornly imposing his scheme on wrong players?
Bill from NYC replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm no expert either but imo Bradham is good on blitzes. Brown is a thumper in the middle. He's very strong and tough to run on. Coverage would seem to be his weakness but Rex loves coverage so much he has the entire squad doing it. -
Probably they had to wait for these guys to come back to the huddle after being 90 yards away from scrimmage.

With the rule changes, sacks and pressure are that much more important. It bugs me when these guys run away from the LOS, Gilmore plays back, and the qb completes a pass anyway. They might as well play attack defense, at least primarily. We watched our team lose with Jauron and his Tampon Two defense. I really thought those days were gone forever.

1) Very, very impressed by Karlos Williams today. He bounced off of the line a couple of times and just wouldn't quit. I'm not the biggest fan of Whaley but keeping Karlos over Fred while sad, was clearly the right move. 2) Speaking of moves, did any of you catch the one by Watkins approx. 2 minutes into the 4th quarter? The play went for for 15 yards and Grimes was absolutely helpless. 3) The penalties are still quite disturbing. There were no less than 13 today. One would think that when you are penalized 13 times you would lose. But 260 yards or so on the ground still wins games for an NFL team, or so it looks. 4) Bradham and Brown had decent numbers today, but I didn't think either of them played well. Too many missed tackles. 5) Standing on a tower, World at my command. You just keep a turning while I'm, playing in the band. If a man among you, Got no sin upon his hand. Let him cast a stone at me for, playing in the band. Playing, Playing in the band. Daybreak, Daybreak on the land. 6) Gilmore made a fine play on the last play of the first half when he defended the pass. Ryan was pumping his fist. It was good. Other than that I was less than impressed. He gave up too many passes and was penalized. He was also taken out of the play on a few runs. Shut-down? I don't think so. At least not today. 7) Good things happened when Rex let them blitz. Sorry folks, I just can't stand this sissy Jauron style defense. 8) Hey Miller, welcome to the NFL! The next DT he faces will look like Cinderella, no matter who it is. Suh is a freaking monster, and is clearly disturbed mentally. 9) Big Time kudos to Mr. Taylor. You know, he didn't need so much air under his deep passes to Sammy. The kid has a nice arm. And he ran just enough to take pressure away from his weapons. 10) Sammy too was fantastic today! I just love the way he gets open. 11) I laugh when they say our defense "bullies" other teams. We do not, at least not on defense. Our DL runs away from the LOS and the entire defense commits stupid penalties. 12) On the first drive, both Sammy and McCoy threw nice blocks. 13) Sorry people for being so critical of the defense after a win. They were causing me a great deal of nervous frustration. Rex needs to get his act straightened out imo. 14) Time now to beat the jets!!! 15) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should the Bills extend Robert Woods?
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Close to it, perhaps more. The cap is going up, right? It all comes down to guaranteed money for these guys, and those are the deals that hurt teams wrt the cap. -

The problem I see with Glenn is that even in a contract year, he isn't improving. I am not saying that he isn't a good player, but I don't know if he's worth 12 million or so per season. Do you think he is worth that kind of money? Yes and so btw did Jonas Jennings. -
LSU, as great as they are, was made to order for the Tide. You cannot beat them up the middle with Ragland at MLB and all of those DTs. And, I cannot remember a better job of coaching. Sorry to gloat but I am fired up. The Tide is right back in it. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>>Upshaw, who stands 6’1” and is a bulky 275 pounds, is physical at the point of attack and rarely surrenders ground in the run game.<<< 275? That is NOT the Courtney Upshaw I saw at Bama. Badol, Courtney used to cover receivers as if he was a defensive back AND, qb sacks, and he was always tough to run on. He was absolutely great in every college game but he had lots of medical and substance problems in the NFL. What I do admire about him is that when he was down and out he went back to have a big time talk with Coach Saban. I don't usually like for the Bills to take chances on guys with substance issues. That said, a healthy and focused Upshaw would be a pro bowl player, and I say this without a shred of doubt. And yes, the work was excellent!

Kouandjio benched for Henderson.. mistake?
Bill from NYC replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After watching CK's entire career on the Crimson Tide, I am going to have to very respectfully disagree. When Bama wiped out Notre Dame and won the title, Kujo was the 4th best blocker on that line. The kid who plays LT now for the Tide, Cam Robinson, is a sophomore and he is already better than Kujo will ever be, but I digress. Kujo is best served by his mobility, not his physical strength. This seems to be limited too due to chronic injuries. I never thought Kujo had the brute strength that is needed to play the right side, whereas Henderson has displayed this, even if only in glimpses. He is by all accounts a wonderful person, but one of the few Tide players that I was against drafting. Btw, imo, the RT position is ever evolving. I am seeing teams give up quite a few sacks from the right side this season. Kelly the Dog pointed this out several years ago but it's really starting to become apparent to me now. The rule changes brought us more and more passing plays, so the position of RT will become more important as time goes on. I could go off on another tangent about how I think that soon, most qbs will be running more and Tyrod will be closer to the norm than the exception but I don't want to bore you. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
You have said this before and quite frankly, I never really understood why. Is it partially because we are Bills Fans, and since 1990 we have burned no less than 13 first round picks on rbs and dbs? This, without having a first round pick in 2 of those years. A team does get WAY more bang for their buck in later rounds, even with the new CBA. That said, the truly talented players at LT, QB and pass rushing DE tend to go in round 1. Again, historically this matters little to the Bills. We tend to not draft these guys.

Great points here. Left to his own devices, Brandon brought us Marrone and his group of amateurs. I never was a fan of his. I liken Brandon to a fancy, rich version of a barker at a circus or carnival. As for Whaley, I tend to be not so impressed. When he traded SO much to get Watkins, I was furious. I have admittedly felt mixed emotions since, but it strongly appears that my initial instincts were correct. He gave away the store in order to draft a receiver for EJ Manuel (another gem) to throw to. Yeah, if the Bills fail to make the playoffs, it's time to bring in another GM.

2016 Team "Who do we keep?"

As much as I like him, say goodbye to Kyle Williams. He will be a cap casualty. -
Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft

Nah, Buckner is too big to play corner. -
In defense of EJ (yeah, I said it!)
Bill from NYC replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The above is all true and it gets worse. I have said over and over that if the Bills thought EJ was clearly the best qb in that draft, they would NOT have traded down 8 spots before selecting him. The draft doesn't work like that at the qb position. Bet here, here is our dirty little Bills Family Secret. We don't even talk about this to ourselves. It's like the junkie or prostitute cousin we don't want others to know about. Ready? Geno Smith is clearly superior to EJ. Someone will whip out stats and tell me I am wrong but I know what I see. And btw it isn't close. EJ: Much nicer kid. Geno: Clearly superior qb. Sorry, but I felt the need to air it out. -
In defense of EJ (yeah, I said it!)
Bill from NYC replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only reason that EJ and RJ are not compared to each other on a consistent basis is because they look so different (and NOOO, I am NOT accusing Bills Fans or posters here of racism). On one of EJ's sacks yesterday, it looked as if he had 6 seconds in the pocket. He just stood there and stood there and got crushed. That is what killed RJ, and he was more talented the Manuel imo. RJ had a nice touch and unlike EJ, he was accurate on short and moderate passes. He had a great arm, and he could run without being clumsy. But even with all that talent, he really did suck. Well, so does EJ, and I can't imagine him getting much better. It's a shame too. I never had high expectations for him but he seems like a good kid.
