Unfortunately, assuming that Whaley will not deal away more picks is quite the reach imo.

Terribly sad but more than likely true.

Pros and cons of keeping Rex next season
Bill from NYC replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He paid too much for Shady when he did not have to. And at this point (I readily admit this could hopefully change) I don't like the trade-up for Watkins. I said it when he made this deal that a serious injury would be a huge risk. Sammy is very good but he isn't a quarterback or Von Miller. Whaley trades away crucial resources and overpays. He also tried to re-sign Byrd and Spiller. I think he lacks discipline. This of course is jmo. -

I love drafting blockers so yes, a center would be a great idea but in all honesty, I don't know of any at this point. -
Pros and cons of keeping Rex next season
Bill from NYC replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You make good points. I think that Rex will be gone unless he makes the playoffs. Whaley also hinders this team from getting better. He doesn't completely suck, but he continues to trade away our draft picks and sign players to huge contracts that don't appear to be worth the resources. We would be way better off without these guys. -

1) Wide receiver 2) Offensive Tackle 3) Guard 4) Corner 5) Safety Of course this could change if the right pass rusher is available. Tim Williams has a higher ceiling than Jerry Hughes. Perhaps a lot higher, and I am a big fan of Hughes. -
Why is that? Gilmore is worth more than 100 million and Rex is a defensive genius.

2017 NFL Mock Drafts & Top Prospects
Bill from NYC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in College Football
The kid is a top 10 talent if he keeps his head on straight. I realize that's a big if but 3rd round talent? I couldn't disagree more and I have watched every game of his career. -

:) He might need it to paper train a puppy. Is there anybody left who wants to pay Gilmore? -
Tyrod Taylor played better than expected tonight...
Bill from NYC replied to fridge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod is fine. He plays behind a line that isn't as good as he makes it look with his mobility. His best weapons have been out most of the year. His coaching staff might be the worst in the NFL; if it's not the worst it sure is close. He made a few plays last night that nobody else could have made. Not that it really matters but did you hear Gruden talking about him before the game? If the Bills had better coaching and a GM who doesn't give away the store, they would be a MUCH better team. Imo it is that simple. -
Gilmore needs to go
Bill from NYC replied to offsides#76FredSmerlas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I have said from day 1, Gilmore was a dumb draft selection. Teams play with 4 or 5 wide on a routine basis. Why would any team want to give a not so great corner a huge contract? Don't get me wrong, Gilmore is good, but I heard the same thing about Whitner. These guys do not often win games for an NFL team. Quarterbacks, pass rushers, blockers and wide receivers matter far more than defensive backs. I hope that he walks and we get the comp. pick, or that he is traded. He would need to be replaced, but hopefully not in the first round. After all of these years, it's time to put the brakes on the first round defensive back merry go round. Records do speak for themselves. -

They might go for a 1st round corner even if Gilmore stays. Try to keep this news a secret to the Bills. Wouldn't it suck to have another Whitner/Youboty team destroying draft? -
Top Hits That Changed QB Careers
Bill from NYC replied to Dr.Sack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, Greg Cook? I am thinking that only a few of us on this board remember him. He was absolutely great, to the extent that if he was a rookie today, he would be the top pick in virtually any draft. Another from that era who had it all and had his career cut short was Bert Jones. I honestly believe that Jones had as much talent as Elway. Jmo. -

Bill from NYC replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes NS, this is, and was at the time my train of thought. It would have been very bad for the team if he was successful in his attempt to sign either or both of them, and I was concerned about it at the time. I am NOT saying he is horrible in all aspects of his job. I do however think that he is a bit amateurish in dealing with agents and other GMs. Hey, jmo. -
Eric Wood had high praise for Rams DT Aaron Donald
Bill from NYC replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who would you rather have on the Bills, Watkins or Donald, another 1st round pick and a 4th? Just asking for the sake of discussion. Btw Badol was on this board before the draft telling us how good Donald was. I mainly watch the SEC and had never heard of him. -

Whaley has a decent eye for talent. But let's not pretend that he didn't try to re-sign Spiller and Byrd. I take that back, make believe as you will. The thing is, he over-pays and gives away draft picks that the team needs. #Draft Picks Matter! -

Very tough to compare GB but I happen to think that he is. He seems to be one of the most organized people on the planet and his work ethic is beyond question. Saban was a big reason why they beat Clemson. The coaching was as good as it gets. The team that beat Notre Dame had little to no chance of losing. They were miles ahead of other teams. This year is different yet again. The defense is very strong and deep. And you can bet that they will get better if they stay somewhat healthy. Da'Shaun Hand (#9) is a sophomore and he gets better every game. They are quite deep with other young players. Alabama and even Saban obviously can be beat. I have no idea if they can win a title, or even make the playoffs with a true freshman qb, and there are lots of tough teams out there. But I will say that Saban and the Tide are obviously pretty good themselves. -
You know, this game was what I always wanted from Rex. He went with a defense that attacked the quarterback. If this continues, they will continue to win games!!! Btw, not every poster who found fault in Rex was completely down on the Bills. I for one thought that his non-aggressive system was awful. I stand by that assertion. I was also a HUGE supporter of Tyrod. I said it before and I repeat: Tyrod and qbs like him are the future of the game. There will ALWAYS be a place for great throwers such a Manning, Brady and Luck, but there are only so many of these guys. Great game Tyrod!!! GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whaley has been a complete failure as a GM
Bill from NYC replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post! My take is that Whaley, like Rex, has little to no discipline. A new, huge contract for a guy called "Shady?" The Watkins deal? Who was the rb he gave a 4th to Philly for? How much for Clay? Whaley imo is a decent judge of talent. I happen to think he lacks the maturity and self control to do business with polished GMs. -

Sure, many people consider the greatest coach in college football history a joke. Jealous, teary eyed fans of opposing teams fans are cracking up laughing every time he gets handed a championship trophy, right? Nobody is perfect. Urban Meyer has some extremely serious issues but I am not going to ridicule him He is a great coach and he seems like a decent man. And if he coaches until 2050 or so, he might win as many championships as Coach Saban.
