2017 NFL Mock Drafts & Top Prospects
Bill from NYC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in College Football
Is Adams better than Landon Collins? Landon is killing it on the Giants, and he was the first pick of round 2. The Giants did trade up for him, but he WAS there. In the same draft they took a blocker with their #1, and now the are in the playoffs. Of course, they have a qb who is good. Next year, Alabama might have 2 safeties coming out. The first is Minkah Fitzpatrick. I hope they leave him at safety because if they do, he looks like a superstar from where I sit. The other, Ronnie Harrison hits like a young Atwater. He crushes people and is probably one of the guys you are talking about with a short shelf life. This kid hits harder than anyone I have seen in quite a few years. -

Fair questions... Whitner stayed the life of his contract, one worth more than 36 million iirc. Yes, I know there is now a rookie cap in place. Now, if you draft a good qb, wr, ot, or pass rusher, you have a player who is comparatively dirt cheap at a key, expensive position instead of tying up your best resources to a "secondary" position. I would love to have a great safety on the Bills, and with a top pick too, just as soon as we strengthen the OL, bolster the pass rush, and of course improve at qb. -

But would drafting a first round safety win or lose games for the franchise? If you guys are THAT sure he is a great player, I believe you. Still, if he is a great safety, when do we address more important issues? Wouldn't you (and you blokes) rather see a player like Jonathan Allen for example? Or a big, fast receiver? I know it sounds crazy but imo, a player can be "good" and not help a team make the playoffs. I have seen this too often. -

White and company will be joined by the Bills fanbase at this introduction. The Bills will once again be doomed for 4 or 5 years when they waste a first round pick on a safety. -

Whitner actually COST the team many games. He couldn't cover worth a dime and his tackling skills were highly overrated. He actually collected his entire rookie contract from the Bills. Remember, he actually held out and was paid more than 36 million from that deal. This is a bad video, but does it bring back ugly memories? -

You make a good case. The thing is, I would prefer a 3 million dollar Searcy to a 15 million dollar Gilmore. I would take the leftover 12 million and put it towards a qb, pass rusher or blocker. THESE are the players we should be drafting and developing. They always should have been our main focus. Once again, jmo. -
I agree, but only if we bring back Losman. He never got a fair chance and threw a great deep ball.

No doubt that Searcy was helped by the Schwartz defense (pass rush) but I frequently came away thinking that he was right where he was supposed to be, and a few of his big plays won us football games. Badol, I never heard the man speak but he left me with the feeling that he was a smart, coachable player who was of some value to his team. I appreciate players like this. Otoh Gilmore has 10x the talent of Searcy, and I don't think that he has won a lot of games for the Bills. Jmo. -

So did I and I praised him week after week. He seemed like an extremely smart player and it wouldn't surprise me if he is a coach down the road. Is this another example of Whaley's mistakes getting swept under the rug or was this a Nix decision? Seriously, I applaud this because I know you were a Rex supporter.. We are here (imo) to discuss the Bills, not to dig in and refuse to bend. In that vein, my stance on Tyrod is unfortunately changing based on things I have been noticing. We will have plenty of time to talk about it I am sure. -
A Rex Apologist Says Enough

If he was more of a thief and set up a foundation to sell out the state dept. and the country for money, I would liken him more to a taller Hillary. Do give back your therapy dog and your mood coloring books. Come out of the crying room. You can still blow bubbles but you have to get them at Toys R Us. It's ok. -
Anybody Have A Change Of Heart About Gilmore?
Bill from NYC replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see.....you really don't get it. You think that if Gilmore (who played high school and college football at South Carolina) leaves Buffalo for a southern team, it will be because I ran him out of town. Gotcha. How about we agree to disagree and please accept my wishes for a happy holiday season for you and all of your loved ones. -

First of all, do you seriously believe that Gilmore wants to play in Buffalo? Is this what you think? You and I are far from capable of running a player out of town. As far as next year, this team needs a complete rebuild from Brandon on down. -

Really Bro. Seriously? Losing him will set us back a game next year? How about the game he lost us yesterday? Would that make it a wash? If he was as great as some purport him to be, this team would be winning lots of games and playoff bound. And when you speak of, "a few years to recover," I do think it begs the question, recover from what? From 17 years of no playoffs? From Gilmore getting burned often? From his lack of effort? It can't get much worse imo and if it somehow did, we would draft in the top 5. -

I agree. Joe, until they get rid of those two (in addition to Rex of course), little will change. -

Yes, you will. This league comes at you all the time with 4 or 5 wide sets. Even Nick Saban says that he employs the nickel about 80% of the time in the SEC! The best corner on earth covers ONE receiver at a time. I still believe in drafts which emphasize qbs, pass rushers and blockers. Are there exceptions? Yes but that is what I think of them as. Exceptions, unless a teams primary needs are met. -

No, your takes never have irritated me. Sure, we disagree from time to time. If anything, I'm glad because of the fine, upscale dialogue. Still, I stand firm wrt Gilmore. Imo he was a wasted pick. Hey I could be proven wrong down the road. Sometimes we are wrong with our opinions and sometimes we click. Btw, how is Spiller doing these days? :) -
I get it, Gilmore wants to stay healthy for a big contract somewhere else next season. Remember how bad Clements wanted out of Buffalo? We have seen this before. Even given the above, Gilmore (imo) is a disgrace and I truly do hope he moves on. A case could be made that his attempt at a "shoulder tackle" cost us a game with playoff implications, on Christmas Eve. I like when we fans disagree. It makes this board great and I learn from good dialogue. Can anyone explain to me how getting rid of Mario was good but losing Gilmore would be bad? My take is good riddance to both!

Interesting stuff GB. I didn't know there were more offers. You know, looking back they probably could have traded further down and STILL have drafted EJ. -

The thing is, we traded down and took EJ. If the Bills brass thought EJ was a franchise qb, they might have been willing to trade UP and take him, or so one would think. They probably thought that Geno Smith was also a hot prospect and were willing to roll the dice on losing Manuel. Either way it was poor scouting and poor building.
