Horrible Scenario For 2017......
Bill from NYC replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, running backs do mean more in inclement weather. I rode this contention to the ground for many years. The truth is that once they gave offenses the middle of the field it became a passing league. Remember what players such as Lott and Atwater used to do to "defenseless" receivers on incomplete passes? I thank God more were not killed. Now, that has become a huge fine that the player himself must pay. Overall, I stick by this post. Whaley spends money foolishly and it causes us to lose football games and have discussions such as these. I do agree GB. Dareus needs discipline. He had it at Alabama. I really do know it is different in the NFL, but the exclusion of the drug clause in his contract was absolutely insane. Where is there any accountability? As far as Hughes, he is a fine player who I REALLY wanted the Bills to keep. Like I said in the OP, he needs better coaching. -
Horrible Scenario For 2017......

Then we should be winning lots of games next season!!! -
As you can surely see, it isn't fun to think like this. As bad as things have been for all of these years, I usually had faith in the offseason, hoping that just once the front office would click and get us what we need. With Whaley, all hope is gone imo. He spends money and gives away draft picks like a kid in a candy store. Imo he is not at all professional and completely outclassed by his peers. Yep, time to start over.

If the Bills re-sign Gilmore and oust Tyrod, the following is what we are looking at next season in terms of salaries. I am going to list the 4 highest paid players, the guys who will eat up a HUGE portion of our cap space. Please do correct me if I forgot to mention someone who makes as much as those I am listing. 1) Marcel Dareus - A DT with substance, psychological, and perhaps conditioning issues. 2) Gilmore - A CB with tools who plays a very tentative game and isn't great in coverage. 3) Jerry Hughes - A talented pass rusher who seems to lack discipline on the field. I for one think that a good coach would elevate his play. 4) Shady McCoy - A talented RB with miles. He is a huge talent but he is aging and plays at a position which is fading in importance. Now toss in a GM who habitually trades away draft picks and you have yourself a hot mess. Is there anyone who thinks we can win with this? I hope that people continue to buy tickets, but this is a tough sell. Say what you will about Tim Graham but he nailed it with his recent article. The situation just isn't acceptable and the entire coaching staff and front office need to be swept away.

Yes, they were on some sort of committee together up at Syracuse. It was cronyism at it's finest, and I could deal with this if the target was Saban or Harbaugh. Marrone was second rate but you know what? I am betting that he worked twice as hard as Rex. There is a guy here who blames the fans. OK that was great! :)

CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss

If EJ was under contract, do you think we could get a 6th round pick for him? If you think he is any good, I am going to respectfully ask you to consider the possibility that as a beaten up fellow Bills Fan, your standards might be way too low. And you seem like a nice guy. I am guessing that your standards in other phases of life are quite high. -

Yeah! How could anybody be dumb enough to think that EJ Manuel sucks? After the season, teams will be on line to sign him to a 100 million plus deal. I wish he was still under contract so we could trade him for a couple of first round picks. -

Good points all!!! Let's put EJ Manuel in there! We haven't suffered enough! -
The place to repent for McCoy Doubters
Bill from NYC replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We do not disagree wrt his ability. Sammy has the potential to be truly great, and I am well aware of and happy about this. But where we can agree to disagree is wrt the trade. 2 first rounders and a fourth in a draft chock full of wide receivers was (imo of course) a very dumb move and symptomatic of a major flaw in Whaley's game. He can't wait to give away our cap space and draft picks and doing so is NOT resulting in wins. To me it is just that simple. As a huge Alabama Fan I have seen every game in which Dareus has appeared. I follow The Tide closely and there are enough great players on that team right now to completely rebuild an NFL defense in 2 years. When we drafted Gilmore, I wanted Hightower but I digress. My point is that despite the above, Marcel's recent contract was a little hard to swallow, no? Is any DT worth that much these days? It's a passing league and pass rushers are much more important now. WAY more. Couldn't this be another example of Whaley tossing money away and not getting wins in return? Well imo, the same applies to McCoy's contract. It has little to do with his ability. He is a gifted runner to say the least. I am just sick of the same idiots (Brandon, Whaley an the Ryans) making the same idiotic moves and not winning football games. That's all. -

I think his contract being re-worked was a mistake. I also think that I am entitled to this opinion and that you are certainly entitled to disagree. -

Why don't you read the post again and then quickly consult a clinician. You might get squeezed in for an emergency visit. Maybe they can up your Abilify. -
Tom Melton on Tyrod Taylor. Perfect analysis.

I thought the same. I mean people should be critical of TT if they choose to, but I have seen him make a few plays because of his legs that nobody else could make. -

Spiller was GOOD IN SPACE. Gilmore is a SHUT DOWN CORNER and a STUD. Whitner was a GOOD TACKLER. Watkins was the BEST WR IN THAT DRAFT. McCoy is ELITE We both could go on and on about these and other very costly mistakes. Even if the above descriptions are all true, the fact is that the wins are just not there. The playoff appearances are just not there. That is because of shaky quarterback play, poor drafting and planning, needlessly trading away draft selections, pitiful coaching, rank amateur GMs, and wasting cap space by signing players to unnecessarily inflated contracts. McCoy is a pleasure to watch most of the time, at least as of late. Still, count me as one who thinks the contract was dumb, and even typical of Whaley, who just can't wait to toss away our best resources. As you can see, Badol doesn't need me to speak for him and I am not trying to, but I sense that the above is at least partially his take. -

The contract is worthy of discussion for SO many reasons. Teams that devote the bulk of their draft and cash resources to running backs and the secondary lose football games. RBs get injured every game and don't seem to be a very worthy investment in this passing league. Doc, I liked the league better when running meant more (of course in those days the Bills had some of the worst offensive lines of all time). But, those days are gone. And btw, as much as everybody hates Tyrod (I do not), take away his option to run and ALL of the Bills backs would gain less yardage imo. Mobile qbs put a band aid on bleeding offensive lines and make them appear much better than they really are. This was the case with Flutie as I know you remember. I hope McCoy keeps it up and proves to be worthy of his contract. With our front office and coaching staff we need all the help we can get. -

I am concerned about this. If I was posting my weekly thoughts, would someone actually be able to edit this and put in their own comment? In any event, keep posting your opinions. They are well thought and AT LEAST as accurate as any poster in the grand history of this board. And if people disagree, they are free to engage in discussion. As I have said many times, this board would suck if we all saw eye to eye on every last subject. Signed, The guy who said Spiller was a wasted pick the day he was drafted, and thought RJ was going to be a great quarterback. -

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking either. Like Bill Lumberg said, "I am going to have to go ahead and disagree." The thing is CB, even if you are correct it doesn't make the entire Spiller episode any less sad, ya know? -
Thank you for a great post.

This is a depressing post, but it is 100% accurate imo.
-
AD, this was just a little too much imo. The man might be very depressed and he is one of us. And with clowns like Whaley and the Ryans calling the shots, let's just say, "there but for the grace of God." Have you ever liked another person?

I just told my girlfriend about this post. She gave me a slight, concerned smile and said, "Poor guy." My thing is that I know your pain brother. I want to take this opportunity to say once again that imo, Bills Fans are the greatest fans of any team in any sport. I am a life long Crimson Tide Fan. I rooted for the Tide before the Bills. The worst thing that can happen this year is that they finish 3rd or 4th. Anybody can do that. Bills Fans are SO loyal that we have to be careful to not be torn apart by our team. It sounds crazy but I think it applies to many people. The fans on this board are the best and most loyal that I have ever seen anywhere, In addition, they are as funny as it gets and many are intellectuals as well. There are actually posters here who could do a far better job than our current general manager. And most important of all, as a group, posters here a group of caring, wonderful people. Get sick and you too will see this. So to the OP.....it will get better. It has to and I'm sorry it takes so painfully long. And to my friends on this board.....Hold your heads high! You really are a collective group of really cool, good people. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
